Tethering or mobile phone hot spot HELP PLEASE? :)
Tethering or mobile phone hot spot HELP PLEASE? :)
I'm off camping in the summer - France, Spain - we've been on these campsites before and they often offer wi-fi but it can cost more than 50 euros for a week and the coverage can be poor.
Now, not being technically minded, I wondered - is it possible to simply buy more data for my phone and then set up my own wi-fi hotspot (is that the right term? I'm more familiar with hot pots I'm afraid) through my phone that my two lads can use on their iPads? Am I on the right lines here or not? All they'll be using their iPads for is watching Youtube - maybe the odd game.
Thanks in advance!

IPHONE - https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphon ... t-3513223/
ANDROID - https://www.androidauthority.com/mobile ... up-631280/
Could also be worth looking at just getting a cheap payg sim with an unlimited internet package. Usually about £20 a month. Providers such as giffgaff etc let you use data all over Europe (EU) for free as usual. You can keep the sim once home or just throw it away.

Yes. Buy more data and tether.
Roam like at home allows you to use your uk allowance in the EU at no extra cost. Either that or take out a 30 day rolling 4G data only tariff and get yourself a MIFI device or put the sim in an alternate device
Need plenty of data for youtube use for 2 kids mind

Really how much? (I genuinely don't know - how much is a lot?) I'd imagine they'd be on about an hour in the morning and maybe an hour or so before bed?theroyaldyche wrote:Yes. Buy more data and tether.

At a random guess I’d go for 5/750mb each a day ... so 1.5/2bg with the data you’ll be using.....Foulthrow wrote:Really how much? (I genuinely don't know - how much is a lot?) I'd imagine they'd be on about an hour in the morning and maybe an hour or so before bed?
Will be quite a bit of data.
Is why I was mentioning looking into the unlimited data sim only option. (Though they do cap it to go slower after a certain amount of data used).

If you limit use then youl be fine. Streaming uses data rapidly so you need to be on a package where you arent charged for exceeding.Foulthrow wrote:Really how much? I think 3 do a sim for consumers that gives unlimited data per month on a 30day rolling contract

Mine was an educated guess, you’ll have more experience in that are no doubt for that area though.theroyaldyche wrote:2 kids tethering to a mobile will use a lot more than that per day
