but Ajax isn't a big game so Dusan Tadic is playing in a CL semi final and Ronnie is not.

Can't do it on his own though, Ajax as a team were phenomenal whilst Juve by their standards didn't turn up

Be good to see Ajax being a force again like they were in the 70s used to always look out for their results.

This is true, and he owes last years CL medal to a combination of Bale and Karius, not that anyone wouldn't be forgiven for thinking otherwise given the aura he cultivates for himself.

I’m not really sure where you are going with this one but calling out one of the greatest, most successful players ever after a loss is a bit bizarre

When the CR7 corporation wins a game of football there's no end in sight to the queue of folk lining up to heap praise upon Ronnie, often without due credit being given to his team-mates. If he's to be raised to such a standard, then he's held to such a standard when he blows it. He's one of the best players of all time. But not the best.

Ziyech was superb for Ajax. Shame he didn’t opt for us

Felt for him tonight, but at the same time saw the disadvantage of building your team around him.

When he's slightly not on it, and he wasn't tonight, the team can't cope.

And as he gets older, he'll struggle more and more.

Mind you, he was playing against De Ligt who is a hell of a talent

Be great to see,but it's hard to see past Barca.

The thing about Ajax is they are playing without fear, even in the last half-hour tonight they continually pressed forwards.

Whichever of Spurs/Man City progress they have a tough task to overcome this vibrant youthful Ajax side.

most of the key talents in that team will be sold this summer - a few deals already agreed it seems

Similar to Monaco a couple of seasons ago.

Thats the most impressive thing about Ajax. They consistently play and compete at a high standard with a suprisingly young squad, but their on the pitch success is possibly over shadowed by their hugely impressive player development and transfer dealings.

https://www.transfermarkt.com/ajax-amst ... verein/610" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The amount of money they've earned from signing, developing and selling players in the last few years is eye watering.

Weird thread considering the bloke just scored a hatrick in the previous round against one of the best defenses in world football...... That had a 2-0 lead

I'm not so sure about that. I think he's one of the best players of all time, and it's weird you'd misrepresent what I've posted, but his prestige as a player who "turns up when it matters" is overstated, slightly exaggerated, when compared to others down the years in the 'best of his generation' conversations.

I think he has turned up when it matters more than enough to have credit in the bank to have an off day.

Nearly 600 goals in 800 club games playing for Europe’s top teams not to mention not far off 100 goals for his country.
I have Messi as just edging him for natural talent but Ronaldo has done it on the big stage just as much if not more than Messi.
Statistically I don’t think what Messi and Ronaldo have done will ever be beaten - both have got to be in the top 4 or 5 players to have ever played the game.

As for last night Juve are an ageing team - their league is too easy to win for them so playing a young exuberant Ajax side was probably one of the worst draw they could have got....Ajax playing without any fear and if they do end up playing Barca in final would be interesting to see how they did against their ageing defence, and Busques etc

yep

going back to OP - what about this for a stat

"if only his goals in quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals counted, Cristiano Ronaldo would still be the 13th highest scorer in European Cup history".

at most that is 5 games a season
