It would've given us at least 4 extra points this season (Utd and Watford) and that's without the penalties we weren't awarded in other games.Goalposts wrote:just looked at the aguerro offside again and the llorente handball,,,we have no need for refs and linesmen anymore computers can make all the decisions....
cant help feel that var will kill the game
But no, let's get all the decisions wrong like in the good old days.

Son Heung-min is a fantastic player, certainly playing as well as anyone in the PL.

For me that's a handball and the offside decision was marginal to say the least. I say that as someone willing spurs to go through too. Think man city were a tad unlucky tonight.

Absolutely spijed, he reminds me of ole for United, never a concrete starter but always delivers when needed. Incredible to think we beat teams like this with the players at our disposal really

Fair enough, on the replays it still looked like it hit his forearm, but I was a few pints in by then.FactualFrank wrote:Replays I've seen on the BT Youtube clip shows it hit his hip.

It hit his hip all day long.
The offside was marginal, but if you're playing with VAR then you get the correct decision.

So you're judging him from one game? Ask spurs fans what they'd do without him, I think they'd be almost unanimously say they'd be fuc*ed this season.Stayingup wrote:Is the same guy who never got a kick and was subbed recently at Turf Moor?

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
question - pundits keep saying that Son is suspended for the semi-final for Spurs because he got booked but I thought I'd read that the yellow cards were wiped out after the quarter finals - anyone able to confirm either way ?
Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
Yellow cards are wiped out befor ethe semi-finals, but suspensions aren't. Sissoko, for example, has a yellow card which is wiped out. Son had two yellow cards which instantly turn into a suspension from the next match - that suspension isn't wiped out.Vegas Claret wrote:question - pundits keep saying that Son is suspended for the semi-final for Spurs because he got booked but I thought I'd read that the yellow cards were wiped out after the quarter finals - anyone able to confirm either way ?

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
The Llorente goal (assuming it did come off arm and then hip, which I believe it did) would be ruled out from next season, when the new rules come in that says accidental handball will be penalised if it leads to a goal or goes in directly. But this year, that rule hasn't come in, so the goal will only be disallowed if the handball is deliberate or is the result of having the arm in an unnatural position - in other words, the forward has put his arm somewhere where he might get an advantage by being in the way of the ball. Arm tucked into his side, not handball.

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
Offside is judged at the moment the attacking player plays the ball. It doesn't matter whether he played it on purpose or it just hit him and he knew nothing about it - if it comes off Attacker A and goes to Attacker B who is in an offside position, then it's offside.Rileybobs wrote:Another rule I don’t understand - silly me - but I thought that it wasn’t offside if it was a deflection that played the ball to the attacking player?
Glad Spurs won btw.
If there is a deflection off a defender, that's not offside. Being in an offside position only applies at the instant an attacker touches the ball.

City were a bit unlucky, but I'm not going to feel any sympathy for them after all the advantages their money has brought them.
Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
I think we will suffer next season, owing to VAR and the new handball rule.
Any defender, who makes a block, is at risk.
Who defends most and whose defenders put in most blocks?
Burnley - we block most.

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
The sight of pep running around wildly for a disallowed goal means we should all be grateful to VAR, he paid the price for his arrogance in the 1st leg.
Hopefully though now he can go on and win the league and stop the shame of English football and their odious fan base winning the league.

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
So what's the decision re our match with City then. Date/timewise
Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
There's no change in the handball rule that relates to defenders handling the ball. The only change is that goals scored using hands/arms are to be disallowed.IanMcL wrote:I think we will suffer next season, owing to VAR and the new handball rule.

How many times have we got away with a handball by our defenders then?IanMcL wrote:I think we will suffer next season, owing to VAR and the new handball rule.

Not many that I can recall, because we simply don't do it very often.
Our defenders are actually pretty good at blocking without their hands.
Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
I also think it will hurt us as we are reluctant to shoot from outside the box. This is understandable at the moment as the majority of the time it’s blocked or balloons over the bar. But, having seen the PSG incident, I suspect that a number of penalties will be conceded in this manner next year. Could be the difference between staying up and going down (especially if you’re Crystal Palace).IanMcL wrote:I think we will suffer next season, owing to VAR and the new handball rule.

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
According to last night's pundits, if it hits your hand/arm and it is anywhere away from your body...handball. Even if shot at you from a couple of yards.Tall Paul wrote:There's no change in the handball rule that relates to defenders handling the ball. I think hat's the case under the current rules as well.IanMcL wrote:According to last night's pundits, if it hits your hand/arm and it is anywhere away from your body...handball. Even if shot at you from a couple of yards.
I was wrong to say that the only change is to goals scored with the hand though. There's been another change to do with the "natural silhouette" of a player, but that's designed to make handballs less likely to be given when the ball hits a defender's hand by their side, not more likely.

Really ?
Not the knife weilding cowards in stanley park after almost every visit
Not the club who repeatedly throw cups of **** into the away section (or even a smoke bomb last weekend)
Not the club who decided to condone racism and defend their player with stupid t shirts
Not the attitude of stewards in the away end at that ground which is the same year after year
Yeah its because of Hillsborough though

Re: Tonight's UCL Footy
Players will be shooting at defenders bodies, instead of trying to shoot or cross the ball.
Just like a goalkeeper is touched and gets a FK and when in a tight position and a player gets within touching distance...fall over FK.
Football is ruining itself.
