Royal London One-Day Cup scores

Post by tiger76 » Wed Apr 17, 2019 8:55 pm

The white ball stuff started today, shame nobody told Lancashire.

Wins for Yorkie bars,Worcestershire,Durham,Gloucestershire,Essex and Hampshire.

The one bright spark for the Red Rose was a 5 wicket haul for young leggie Matthew Parkinson in his first game back.

Even Jimmy went for over 7 an over and finished wicketless.

Big games at Notts and then the derby at Leeds, need to win at least one of those even this early.

Anderson is very poor with the white ball. Strange really considering how good he is with the red.

Poor day for Lancs and we really do need Livingstone and Buttler back ASAP, not that I expect Buttler to play that much in this format.

Some very large scores today.

Interestingly, not a single team won batting second. Hopefully we’ll get our first win sooner rather than later. We finished this tournament brilliantly last year, but having lost four of the first five, it was over before it started. Maxwell will be a big player for us whilst he’s here!

Not many teams will chase down 367 runs in 50 overs in mid April.

Bowled crap.

True! their 2 centurions played really well, sometimes you have to credit the ops,Yorkshire looked formidable in their victory,Ballance has started the season on fire, the problem for them is if he carries on in this vein,England might come calling again.

Perhaps but none of the current top 3 inspire much confidence,so any batter that's piling up the runs at domestic level, must feel there in with a shot.

Hameed is another who with a good run of form the selectors will be eyeing up for an international return.

At least Lancashire CCC are making healthy profits off the pitch.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/47969860

They'll need to maximise revenues given the large debt due to the redevelopment of Old Trafford.

But the WC and Ashes test should go some way to ensuring a bumper year.

Suggests the one-day format is vital to county clubs, which might explain why they are pushing for more of these games.(eg the hundred) being introduced.

You do have to ponder how long the traditional CC can survive with the pitiful attendances in the main.

Lancashire do literally nothing outside of game days, to promote the four day format. It’s all about the white ball. Sad really.

Not a surprise though, and my instinct is Lancs/Yorks are among the clubs with the larger fan bases, someone like Durham must really struggle to attract fans for county games, that's why i fear for it's long-term future.

It’ll be more of a problem
For the rest of the country if Ballance gets called up.

It's all about money John.

The few who do watch the four day games are pretty much the older generation and don't cover running costs.

The shorter formats are bringing kids and families in and it is bound to be the future whether we like it or not.

I went to Lords last week for Middlesex's first home CC game against Lancs. School holidays and I bet there were less than 50 kids in the ground.

Match that to a t20 at Old Trafford against Yorkshire on 9th August.

Lancashire getting their arse handed to them again today by Notts. 400 and plenty on the board.

There's a chance we could actually chase this total down.

Just fell short. An amazing 166 from skipper (and local lad) Dane Vilas. His 166 is a new record, beating the previous best by other local lad Andrew Crook (former Harwood pro).

I played against Andrew Crook. He bowled nice gentle off spin although he was a batsman. His brother who was at Earby at the same time was sharp though.

His brother was much more successful, playing for a number of years at Northants, may even still be going.

Much better from Lancashire,Shame Vilas couldn't see us home,Fletcher's cameo proving the difference, ultimately another loss though, must win against the Yorkies on Sunday now, thrilling tie for them today,no Jimmy today he's being rested i presume, rather then having an injury,i also noted Root's absence from the Yorkshire line-up.

We conceded 417 runs in 50 overs so "much better" could be argued with.

Nearly eight and a half runs an over is amateurish.

It's a good job that none of the counties take this competition seriously.

Vila’s LBW looked a very poor decision.

Doesn't it become a development competition next year for under 23s? I assume it is to accommodate the nonsense that is 'The Hundred'. Seems to me that the cricket authorities will only be satisfied when every delivery is either a six or a wicket. And lasts no more than five minutes. A joke.

I should have clarified,i was really referring to the batting, the bowling is a major concern, that's 2 games where we've been carted round the park.
