Rugby Lineouts and Football Corners
I’ve often wondered why I’ve never seen anyone try this at corners. Would it be against the rules? I don’t think so. Obviously using a head rather than hands!

I think it would be classed as unsporting behaviour.

It used to be known as ungentlemanly conduct. It certainly would not be allowed.

It used to be specifically in the rules that leaning on a teammate to gain height was ungentlemanly conduct and punished by an indirect free kick. I don't know if it still is, but I'd be surprised if they had deliberately taken it out.

Would that be the same if a defender allowed a goalie to climb higher for a cross by allowing his own body to become a sort of stepladder?dsr wrote:It used to be specifically in the rules that leaning on a teammate to gain height was ungentlemanly conduct and punished by an indirect free kick. In theory, yes. I can't imagine it would ever be called, though; or that the defence would have time to pre-arrange it.Spijed wrote:Would that be the same if a defender allowed a goalie to climb higher for a cross by allowing his own body to become a sort of stepladder?

Remember that Ernie Hunt/Willie Carr free kick for Coventry way back? wasn't there speculation about it's legality but it was given.Hipper wrote:It used to be known as ungentlemanly conduct. It certainly would not be allowed.

It's legal until it's made illegal - just as the Coventry free kick was until it was outlawed for the ball not travelling its circumference
