That said if the majority of Scots want another independence referendum, then that is their choice and we should respect whatever democratic decision they make.

Despite what Leave voters might think, having independence and being a part of the EU are not mutually exclusive desires.

Good luck if that is what you want. But I don't see the economic argument as you have missed the boat (rig) to do a Norway. The Scottish people have a strong national identity already so nothing different there. But if you are going on the Turf don't forget to bring your passport and please don't bring any more of that funny money down.

Our efforts to extricate ourselves from the EU are proving very difficult.

When Czechoslovakia split it was said to have taken ten years to sort it all out.

With Brexit and then Scottish independence it will leave a legacy of damage and costs which will surely take years to overcome. When it's all done we may be all better off but I doubt if anyone can calculate when and by how much.

Theresa May's article 50 letter to the EU talked about 'friends across the continent. As we have seen, that still doesn't make things easy.

These decisions aren't playthings. They are one off and practically irreversible.

If the Scottish people really think that the long term benefits are greater then all this then go for it, but don't expect the rest of the UK to agree with you all the way. We will look after our own interests which are not necessarily the same as yours.

There seem to me far more pressing needs then Scottish independence.

Scotland talks about freedom, yet I've read today that Scotland's largest land owner isn't even Scottish....he's Danish.

Looks like there's some work to do before they can really be free.

That's quite possibly the dumbest interpretation of freedom I've ever read. You can only be free if the largest land owner is someone from your country.

Scotland only ever joined the Union because they were going bankrupt. Despite oil they have always been massively subsidised. They got a bloody good deal in the Act of Union. I’d make it plain.

Another referendum. If Scotland votes to leave England would be financially better off. All Scots in Westminster lose there positions. And the act of Union torn up. If and when Scotland realises just what the Union does for Scotland and wants to return a far better deal for the rest of the Uk could result.

England is getting more and more extreme in it's right-wing views. If Scotland goes it's only a matter of time before England and Wales sleepwalks into an extreme right-wing government. It might not even require Scotland to leave for that to happen, but Scottish independence will make it happen much sooner.

Just pointing out the Scots want rid of the English, yet a large chunk of their country is owned by a Dane.

Do you think only the English will own English land after they claim "independence" from the EU? I don't recall you ever making that profoundly dumb argument against Brexit.

I've never hinted that it's the English owning all the land, just pointing out the irony that the Scots want rid of the English overlords, so they can place themselves under the control of the EU whilst a Dane controls a large chunk of their country

At some point you'll get a sense of humour, until then it's probably best you take some time to digest what's written to see if you can spot it, or do I need to add emojis for you?

So now you're claiming that what would be a thoroughly stupid opinion if it was serious was all just a joke that i should laugh at because of how funny it is?

Independence isn't defined by who owns the ******* land. That's why your post was stupid.

Still no sense of humour, at all then?

You're being stupid by failing to see the humour in it, like you do in various other posts on here.

I'm well aware it isn't defined by who owns the land, I'm just sat here taking the **** out of the Scots, incl you, which you're failing to understand.

Can't wait to see your next tantrum about it......

Something along the lines of I'm stupid, land doesn't define freedom, you hate the English and we will be governed by the far right with or without the Scots being part of England.
Have I missed anything?

England and Wales are no more extreme than they ever were, just the means of conveying it has changed. They used to sell bulldog outside the turf on match days. Wales was largely seen as settled when the act of Union and so got bugger all... we could bankroll Wales into Scotland’s place within the Uk with relative ease if the Scots go. Britain will never go extreme nationalist (right or left), but a lot of Europe will.... why I chose leave.

The strongest economy in Europe is Britains, even whilst run by a pack of self interested loons. If you want to leave that to join a sinking ship, so be it.
Seriously, economies rise and fall like tides, but you cant carry dead weight that will ultimately drag you under. An independent Scotland will be lumped with the Irelands, Spains and Italy as a net taker, not giver. In those circumstances there is no guarantee they would even want you. Add to it they cant agree a border on Ireland, a border on mainland Britain would cause even more problems.

I think it's all pie in the sky, but I wouldn't hold back from Scots determining their own future

The strongest economy in Europe is Germany.
Many countries have been assisted over the years and bear no resemblance to their previous existence.

How are you independent if there are numerous regulations/rules/laws made that you have precious little say over? Isn't that what the SNP want, independence from Westminster? Despite remainers trying to pretend we are sovereign, we clearly are not, whilst part of the EU.

We have just as much a say as anyone else. If the UK isn't an independent nation because we only have as much of a say in the laws we're governed by as everyone else, then you and I are not independent people either because we only have one vote, just like everyone else.

Also, it means literally every country with any kind of trade deal is not an independent country.

So i guess the closest the world has to an independent country is North Korea. Right?

The biggest economy is Germany, it certainly isnt the strongest at the moment. They are worried about going into recession, we aren't. A successful Brexit would tip them over the edge.

Testing for P1 pupils is proving controversial amongst teachers and parents for one, which is why Education Secretary John Swinney has been getting a rough ride in Holyrood.

There is far too much time being wasted on both Brexit and Scottish independence well day-to-day affairs are neglected by both the HOC and the SP.

I think it will be hard for the SNP to make coherent arguments that don't contradict the arguments they've made for the UK remaining in the EU. However, I genuinely wish them well with their endeavour.

You can't beat the right to self-determination. As long as its consistent; I mean she wouldn't want Glasgow taking the rest of Scotland out of the union, would she? That would be contrary to what she's said about Brexit. So when she's PM of Glasgow*, I imagine that will be the will of the Scottish people enacted.
