From the telly.

Heaton 7 He did what he had to do. Safe and strong. But didn't have to excel and pull of a couple of wonder saves.
Lowton 7 Got done by Hazard for their first goal (and who hasn't) but hey he did improve and did a good job in the second half.
Tarkowski 8 Strong display for most of the game.
Mee 10 Colossal display be Mee tonight
Taylor 9 Has come on leaps and bounds this season. Tripled his value tonight.
Hendrick 8 Very good game and a great strike for our first. Never took his eye off the ball.
Cork 7 Put himself about but didn't really see that much of the ball to do anything with it
Westwood 8 He was all over the pitch and has discovered his form over the last few months.
McNeil 7 Never really saw much of the ball in a position to try and do some damage. Thought JBG or Brady might come on for him.
Barnes 8 He does like backing into opposing players but took his goal well. But I've grown to like him.
Wood 8 Had a half chance in the second half that he should have done better with but tried throughout the game and a lovely nod on to Barnes.

Two goals away at Chelsea and a great second half defensive performance.
No wonder Chelsea were frustrated.

Devils Advocate 0

Heaton 7
Lowton 7 Struggled in first half but did really well in second (against best player in PL)
Mee 10 Barely a foot wrong and 2 assists ?
Tarks 8 Solid
Taylor 7 as Lowton
Hendrick 8 Great goal
Westwood 6 Over run at times but gave 100% as always
Cork 6 As Westy
McNeil 7 Didnt show much going forward but put in a great defensive effort. Another goal from 1 of his corners
Barnes 9 A goal and gave their defense hell
Wood 8 Great chance to win it but otherwise very strong performance

That was an exceptional, committed performance, from a real team. Ashley Barnes epitomised everything good about making the best of your ability and working for the team. He was ably assisted by Wood and at the back, we had Ben Mee, the colossus.

Worth my fiver! Free parking and free electric! What a night.
Thanks Burnley FC.

Heaton 6 - beaten by a deflection and an unstoppable strike
Lowton 6 - torrid time but remind me who he was up against
Taylor 7 - dug in well and wasn’t exposed much
Tarkowski 8 - some wobbly moments but on the whole magnificent
Mee 10 - raised the bar again, further making up for his disasterous first half of the season
Cork 6 - outnumbered and outgunned
Westwood 6 - his running went some way to stemming the tide
McNeil 5 - didn’t get in the game and a little staggering he was left on
Hendrick 8 - outstanding technique for the goal and great defensive cover
Wood 7 - harried and hustled
Barnes 8 - got under their skin and a good goal. Imagine the torment the top 6 would have playing Barnes and Vardy as a front two? Similar to each other in their pesky nature and ability to score against the best.

Wonderful, wonderful performance because Chelsea were brilliant at times yet we dug in and they ended up petulant, rattled, cheating (Luiz) and all but beaten. If we had gone for it with set pieces at the end we would have won, Chelsea had gone, but we needed a point and settled for it. On this occasion, pragmatism was the right decision.

All low marks are due to the calibre of player facing them, no slight on our player from me.

Dyche made an interesting comment at the end about the European challenge changing the mentality of players, and he also dropped in something about tactics being wrong when he was trying to be more offensive (ironically we have scored more after our “reset” in the second half of the season). It was certainly the case that some players were unrecognisable.

I think everyone, players and manager alike, have had to have a good look at themselves this season because they went way below their standards, but they are finishing smelling of roses again, which should bode well for next season (especially with two inexpensive sides like Norwich and Blades coming up), and hats off to them. They’ll deserve a relaxing summer. But first, we have to play a decisive hand in the title race. And, I feel we will.

What a fantastic night. Not sure why Lowton is getting low marks. Think people need to take a look at the quality of the player he was up against.

What’s more, I think that, after their equaliser, Lowton contained him very well.

zola is a terrified gobshite, he talks about "kevin" the ref. like an old pal who has strangely let him down. How dare he give some decisions in favour of the northern minnows ?
meanwhile at half time, the media ponces were inevitably discussing Arsenal for no apparent reason.

Lowts went way too narrow and stood off him too much, as Sky said. I don’t believe in ratings players higher because of the class of opposition. It is Premier League not tiddlywinks. He had 8 accurate passes in the game and hardly got forward. McNeil had 9 accurate passes. I have upped a few of my ratings on reflection but my general point still stands.

Like I said in my ratings, no slight on him at all. He did as well as could have been expected..

I have panned Dyche this season and also panned Mee, handing out several 4’s earlier in the season. Today he was 10. Dyche would be 10 too. That shows I call it as I see it, with no agenda. That’s the way we should all do it.

Wonderful all round team effort.
The way they lost it at the end showed just how well we'd played.
I'd also suggest Lowton coped better, even better still as the game went on, than many established internationals!

Heaton 7 not an awful lot to do due to the players in front. No chance with goals
Taylor 9 excellent
Mee 10 outstanding
Tarks 9 excellent
Lowton 8 Hazard was on fire early on but Lowton recovered as the game went on. Helped massively by Hendrick as well.
McNeil 8 not much came off with the ball at his feet but kept the shape very well.
Cork 8 stood up to them very well
Westwood 8 as Cork
Hendrick 9 great goal but his work rate really was something else
Barnes 8 did what Barnes does
Wood 7 a bit slack at times giving the ball away and should have scored.

An excellent performance to get a point as I thought Chelsea played really well, especially first half.
The tears from Chelsea because we didn’t roll over for makes it all the sweeter.

Heaton 7 (didnt do anything wrong, Higuain's goal was just a belter)
Lowton 8 (embarrassed in first 20, amazing 2nd half)
Tarks 7 (you are not Franz Beckenbauer. Stop it)
Mee 8 (MoM. Bit weak in tackle for second goal, that's my only criticism)
Taylor 7 (solid, earned his place now)
Cork 6 (a little slow to track the runners at times)
Westwood 6 (quiet day for him)
McNeil 7 (the best is yet to come)
Hendrick 7 (amazing finish, bit sloppy in possession second half)
Barnes 8 (Chelsea hate him. Partly because he's a menace, but I suspect because he's actually also quite good, and that annoys them)
Wood 5 (honestly, I miss Sam. Fluffed his lines yet again, and still needlessly gives the ball away far too easily after getting hold of it. I wouldn't mind cashing in this summer. He frustrates the life out of me. Although I cant remember him being offside yesterday...)

Heaton 8 safe hands good captaincy some nice interceptions
Taylor 8 some brave challenges put his body on the line
Mee 9-A classic "Ben Mee" enough said
Tarks 8 solid and great tackles and blocks
Lowton 8 tough start but really marked Hazard well 2nd half
McNeil 6 struggled though was never gonna get much service in this game
Cork 7 put a right shift in
Westwood 7 as above always busy
Hendrick 8 1 for the goal, steady and did his stuff though again tough to operate against this kind of class well taken goal
Barnes 8 revels in this kind of game wound up half the Chelsea side and didn't even get booked
Wood 6 missed a great chance to go 2-3 and lacked a touch, his limitations were exposed

Masterclass defending reminded me of our performances last season. Lowton got hammered 1st half but once Hendrick helped him out we looked comfortable.

Anyway, thought that was outstanding. Used the long ball to stretch them and give us a platform, and took advantage of some **** poor defending and probably had the best chance to win it when Wood was through.

I like Sarri, and his Napoli team were outstanding to watch, and at times Chelsea did some terrific stuff, but they didn't second half and we were well worth a point.

Heaton 8 - kicking outstanding, positionial excellent all game
Lowton 8 - He's playing against Hazard, and Hazard was ineffective after the first 24 minutes
Tarks 9 - man mountain
Mee 9* - can't give him a ten, because he was left too easily by Higuan for the goal, but this is the Mee we are used to seeing
Taylor 8 - get him a new contract asap
Hendrick 9 - great goal and worked his socks off. Going to be hard to shift from this position
Cork 8 - worked his socks and used to well when he had the time and space
Westwood 8 - hope he can keep this level of performance up for next season. A revelation.
McNeil 7 - great learning experience for him, and he worked his socks off as well.
Barnes 9 - His improvement into a genuine premier league striker is something I never thought I'd see. Amazing performance again
Wood 8 - worked hard and again, someone who looks like a premier league striker

Safe now, and we deserve to be since that amazing run since Xmas. Well done all!

Heaton 8-Assured handling and very composed under immense pressure
Lowton 7-very shaky start. Chelsea had done their homework well. For me one of our weak areas RB.
Tarkowski 8- Absolutely towering performance.
Mee 9-Magnificent MOM.
Taylor 8-Surely the best English LB in the country.
Hendrick 8-Not his greatest fan but he was magnificent. Covered RB and helped reduce their main outlet.
Westwood 7-Very aggressive performance. Worked tirelessly
Cork 7-Got through an enormous amount of work.
McNeil 7-Didn't have a great influence on the game but he gives us a good balance even when not at his best.
Barnes 8-Don't thin Luiz would have slept well last night. Think Ash must have given him nightmares.
Wood 7-Held the ball up well at times but was wasteful on occasions.

We deserve a lot of plaudits for the way we defended last night. Absolutely brilliant.

One low mark and I feel like Sarri getting abused by the Burnley bench, UTC at it’s finest, ironically from Lancs who has never admitted he is wrong either  . Worth saying though Lancs’ second paragraph I agree with completely.

I have my way of marking, and if a player is up against a world class player he doesn’t get marks simply for playing against him. Sometimes people give top marks simply because the whole team did well but I don’t agree with that when doing statistical ratings that lead to awards. It was one of those daft games where marks are all over the place, as that silly article in the Mirror showed.

Hazard had 24 touches in our box and over 60 passes, most of them in the second half. One step over or trick and it was 3-2. Luckily he wasn’t at his tricky best. I think he should have been kept outside the box more, and the pundits agreed.

EDIT - On this one though, reflecting on my way to the airport, I think I was too harsh at midnight last night. I have upped some scores accordingly. I maintain that the stats say that Lowts and McNeill hardly got in the game with the ball at their feet, but they knuckled down well. My approach to this forum is to demand high standards and positivity in approach but it is too much to insist (via the marking) that our players excel against world class players. So there you go Lancs, I was wrong, write it down :D

Heaton 7 a couple of fumbles and he'll be disappointed with their 2nd
Lowton 7 thought he stuck to task well against their only real threat.
Tarkowski 8
Mee 9 immense
Taylor 8 very solid again.
Hendrick 8 extremely well taken goal, did his gift helping Post on too
Westwood 8
Cork 7 just not quite strong or quick enough
McNeil 7 quiet
Wood 7 just for poke it! Always tries to shape it in, so takes time to adjust feet and then to shoot
Barnes 8 caused them issues all night, really good finish too. Can easily be slashed at.

Great shift and well earned point.

Surprised some of the scores are so low.

Heaton 8
Lowton 8
Tarkowski 9
Mee 10 Simply imperious. One of the best defensive performances I've ever seen from one of our players.
Taylor 9
Mcneil 6. Never in the game.
Hendrick 9. Extra point for the sublime goal.
Westwood 7
Cork 6
Wood 8 Great flick for the 2nd. Should have done much better with his chance in the 2nd half.
Barnes 9

Was watching on TV but thought the fans were absolutely superb. Could hear the noise throughout.

heaton - 8 no chance with either goal, cool under pressure second half when he only had one shot to save

lowton - 9 thought he stood up really well against hazard after a tough first half hour

tarkowski - 9 rock solid

mee - 10 finally, finding him the back post paid off and he was in the way of everything at the back; this was ben mee at the top of his game

taylor - 9 excellent yet again

cork - 8 full of running

westwood - 8 see cork. provided a good lol moment when loftus-cheek shrugged him off in the build up to their first.

hendrick - 9 very much the unsung hero of this season. a beauty of hit for his goal and once again his discipline, running and tidy play was essential to our success. very much a part of keeping hazard quiet as well.

mcneil - 7 not a lot happened for him on the ball but he's learning the other side of the game very quickly

barnes - 9 chelsea absolutely hated him hahahahahahaha

wood - 7 squandered an excellent position to put us 3-2 up but this was another strong performance from him

i thought before the game that the odds on us to win were ridiculous given we still needed points to be mathematically safe. chelsea are a top group of players but they aren't a brilliant team and rely so much on hazard, they're fairly easy to stop.

we were very much worth the point we got, the back four in particular were superb but once again its perhaps harsh to single out individuals as this was a great team performance - exactly what we're all about.

a point made all the more sweet by the incessant crying from the likes of david luis, some no mark employee of the sun and the usual selection of armchair fans who still don't realise that the opposition aren't there to just give chelsea a training session.

a top night for us and thats us beach ready for the last 3 games.

Just think you are being overly harsh on Lowton Crosspool.

Hazard is absolutely lethal, and he wasn't after 25 minutes.

Thats a lot to do with Lowton (and Hendrick) being spot on with him.

I take your point that you should try to keep him out of the area, but you can't unless you put a challenge in or give him space to run or wiggle through.

But we agree on everything else about it being a brilliant team performance!

I agree, and have edited and rescored my post, and, because I know you enjoy it, admitted I was (slightly) wrong 8-)
