Accrington Stanley
Not seen it posted but all but secured their League One status for another year tonight with a 2-1 win at Doncaster. 5 pts (and 6 teams) clear with two games left.
Well done John Coleman!

Re: Accrington Stanley
Am I correct that wherever Stanley finish this season it will be the highest they've ever finished in the football pyramid?
Or, is there some way of splitting Third division North and 3 div South that would be closer to the pinnacle?

Re: Accrington Stanley
Terrific win for Stanley, saw they where 2 up at H/T and thought they'd blow it again, but they held on,big blow to Donny's play-off hopes.
Luton struggling to get over the line as well held 2-2 by AFC Wimbledon,a 93rd minute equaliser for the Dons.

Re: Accrington Stanley
So pleased they are yet again within touching point of another teeny tiny east lancs non Prem team.
Re: Accrington Stanley
It depends whether you count this Accy Stanley as a successor club to the first one. If you don't, then this is certainly the highest they have finished. But the old club twice finished runners-up in the third division north, so there would be 46 teams finished higher - 22 in div 1, 22 in div 2, and the two third division champions. The equivalent this year would be third in league one.Paul Waine wrote:Am I correct that wherever Stanley finish this season it will be the highest they've ever finished in the football pyramid?

Re: Accrington Stanley
To put things into perspective we drew at Chelsea last night,Bolton will have Accy as their local derby next season,if they are still in existence,so much for being 10 years ahead.
Re: Accrington Stanley
I'm glad they're stopping up - assuming they do, of course. I like a weekend in Blackpool when the illuminations are on, and if (like this year) it can be made to coincide with Fleetwood v Accy or Blackpool v Accy, so much the better.

That could well be Bury (even with all their financial troubles) but from an Accy pespective some great opportunities for big gates - Blackpool, Bolton, Bury, Fleetwood all relatively local and Sunderland not guaranteed promotion yet - suspect they will miss the hordes from Bradford.
Every one in the league (though I suspect none more so than their own players) will be happy that new draininage has gone in down one side of the pitch that was the first to flood and the pitch itself gets dug up on Sunday with new drainage and a new surface going in
