Southampton's Third Kit...
.... is red, with dark red stripes rather than white stripes.
So I presume they must always play in an 'away' kit on their travels? They must play in a yellow one for obvious kit clashes and this other red one... that looks a bit like the home one? I don't know if it's clever or not....?
Only just noticed it from last night highlights, but they unveiled it in July.

Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
I can't think of any clash that isn't resolved better by their 2nd kit
Unless someone plays in white and yellow stripes?

Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
Third Kits are often just thinly veiled marketing ploys to sell another shirt, ether it be an anniversary / limited edition type of thing or just a third option, like when we play Crystal Palace if we have a blue away kit.
I suppose if they played Newcastle, which is a clash sometimes depending on how much white is on the shirts - they can still play in red without the risk - and play in white shorts too.
Its a nice shirt though

Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
It should be simple
If your home shirt is “dark” have a “light” away shirt
If your home shirt is “light” have a “dark” away shirt
The away shirt shouldn’t feature any colour on the home shirt - never understood why we’ve had pale blue away shirts. Means they can’t be used when playing Villa & WHU because of the sleeves.
The only reason to have a “third” kit is for more income.

Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
I get that, but the more I think about it, its genius. Its a home kit, that Southampton can play away games in - without it offending the traditionalist supporters like me, who like seeing the home colours being played in whenever possible.wilks_bfc wrote: The only reason to have a “third” kit is for more income.
Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
Didn’t West Brom also have an “away” kit that was very similar to their home kit?
Re: Southampton's Third Kit...
Yep. That’s the reason Barcelona always have a hideous away shirt. Home is pretty dark and the obvious coloured away shirt is very “out of bounds”wilks_bfc wrote:It should be simple

This should be compulsory, if there is no clash. Your colours are your colours wear them with pride whenever possible.claptrappers_union wrote:without it offending the traditionalist supporters like me, who like seeing the home colours being played in whenever possible.
Off thread. I wish the club would announce the strip to be used the day before away games.

Barcas away strip does change but regularly involves the yellow & red of the Catalan flag.Dyched wrote:Yep. That’s the reason Barcelona always have a hideous away shirt. Home is pretty dark and the obvious coloured away shirt is very “out of bounds”

It was refreshing seeing us in our home shirt on Monday evening, I was convinced we'd be in our 3rd kit.Tricky Trevor wrote:This should be compulsory, if there is no clash. Your colours are your colours wear them with pride whenever possible.

I was convinced we'd be wearing the all white kit Monday. Who decides if we need to change?

If you go onto the Premier League Twitter, they tend to announce the colours the teams will be playing in the day before, I hope that helps.Tricky Trevor wrote:Off thread. I wish the club would announce the strip to be used the day before away games.

I like seeing the home shirt as much as possible. Too many switches into away or third shirts are simply marketing - Man U v Everton - Spurs v Man City - absolutely no need for a switch at all. Or wearing away kits at home - Ireland playing in black on occasion at home. Not a fan of that

A mate in work says he blames Burnley for unnecessary short switches - citing our Vodka Kick grey kit from a while back. However, we did have a VK claret and blue shirt too didn't we for away matches that season?

I'd like to see all teams play in the same colours just to add a bit more confusion to the game... Including the Ref.edison wrote:I like seeing the home shirt as much as possible.
