Hitting a parked car advice
My wife hit a parked car today; only superficial damage but it was a 68 plate Evoque and there was no damage to her car. She left a note with her number so waiting for a call.
My question is what information do I need to give when they call? I’m conscious that anyone could take the note off the car and call me asking for my full name address etc.
Will just providing her insurance provider and policy details suffice?

Re: Hitting a parked car advice
Did your wife take a picture of the car where she's hit it?
Ideally she did, because that would help in any insurance claim.
Like any insurance claim, it's insurance details that need to be swapped, plus whatever contact details you wish to give

Full credit to your good lady for her honesty.
I’d own up too, but far too many wouldn’t.

Re: Hitting a parked car advice
I work in insurance claims.
When the third party phones exchange names and contact information. Tell them you want to go through insurance and will ask your insurer to phone them.
Phone your insurance company, give them the third party's details and send them the photos.
Your insurance company should then phone the third party and offer to deal with their repairs free of charge. That way the other guy won't even have to use their own insurance.

Not quite.... she drove off at first (because she panicked, not out of trying to get away with it) but went back.bobinho wrote:Full credit to your good lady for her honesty.

I would advise the opposite.
I would ask them to get a quote for repair, if it cheap enough you can afford, just get it repaired.
By the time you have paid the excess and next years increased premium it might not cost you much more.
If you cannot afford to pay for the repair then go through your insurance.

Been there. Owner of taxi firm and wife. And kids. All with whiplash and none of them in the car I didn't reverse out of a side street and hit.lesxdp wrote:And there was 6 occupants of the car who your wife never saw all with similar injuries

You don’t pay an excess on a third party claim. You only pay an excess if you claim for your own damage.Lowbankclaret wrote:I would advise the opposite.

Thanks all.
Info exchanged, it’s in the hands of the insurers now.

Re: Hitting a parked car advice
Heh. I learned to drive late, about 25 or so, and on a rainy day at Asda car park in colne, shortly after I passed my test, I reversed wildly into someone's parked car. I was **** at driving and that didn't help my confidence at all. It was proper rainy though, no chance of leaving details or anything, so I rang my mate who said something like 'technically it's okay, you can smash any car you want up on asda car park, but morally you shouldn't.' So I went to Colne police station to grass myself up. The bird behind the counter looked at me entirely nonplussed as I'd explained what happened. 'So, what are you doing here?' said she. 'I'm just letting you know, if someone comes in saying their car has been rammed in asda car park, it's not a crime and direct them to me. Please.' Said I. 'Whatever.' She said. Mrs Holt came in, words exchanged, situation resolved.
Owning up to it cost me an absolute fortune. And I rang her up personally to apologise. To a Burnley FC directors wife.

Re: Hitting a parked car advice
I reversed into a Porsche Boxer on B and Q car park. Mine was an automatic car and only on tick over. The moment I hit it I looked out the back window and there was nothing I could see. She had the top down and my Merc was simply to high up to see it. The lady was frantic so I got her to call her husband.
Offer to pay for the damage, great body man in Burnley sorted it for £360.. Husbands choice.
Bumped into him on that great day at Wembley against Sheffield Utd. Could have cost a lot more but he agreed with me that if the panel was replaced it would be unlikely the gaps to the door and boot would be great.
