Guardiola on McNeil
In his post match press conference after the United game he said the usual "Burnley are complicated and so tough, they have Wood and Barnes and also McNeil - he is a top top player"
Hands off Pep !!

Its a ploy from Gladioli - blowing smoke up Dwight's 'arris to hope it affects his game against City on Sunday...

I do wonder if it is a ploy, however McNeil does have that attacking style and composure Pep likes to see.
Remember him having a go at Redmond? Redmond said he was being complimentary and if you watch the way Guardiola was talking to him it was the same way I've seen clips of him talking to Sterling in training, almost about how to use the ball - Redmond's game went completely after that and it wouldn't surprise me it it was because of his then manager (Puel/Hughes I can't remember).
Be interesting to see if McNeil can live up to expectations or struggle with the pressure of comments like that.

All "mind games".
It's our defensive players/set-up he'll really be concentrating on in briefing his players. Though, obviously, also trying to cater for the Barnes/Wood combo.

I hope he’s spitting feathers about Barnes, Wood, and McNeil by teatime on Sunday.
Re: Guardiola on McNeil
Aside from Foden he's not exactly been great at promoting young players into the team. Fergie on the other hand was light years ahead in that respect.

I doubt Pep has the slightest idea who any of our players are . Likely been given a few names in his brief and spouted the usual cliches . Not unlike when were on tv ,once we got to 2-2 all the “ well organised “ “ physical “ “ direct” “ difficult to break down “ “ old school centre half” ( describing Tarky) and other such cloth cap nonsense was spewing from the commentary team

It would be hilarious if we derail them on Sunday , can’t stand Man City even if they are good to watch, plastic club through and through
Re: Guardiola on McNeil
Manchester City, regardless of their massive wealth, are definitely not a “plastic” club.

I would imagine quite the reverse and that an exceptional amount of time and effort goes into preparing for every game they play.AlargeClaret wrote:I doubt Pep has the slightest idea who any of our players are . At the Etihad yes, it’s been a different story at the Turf during the Dyche years though, won one, lost one, drawn one scoring a total of three goals.Tinribs wrote:Complicated and tough ? 5-0,5-0 he must have worked the puzzle out

What is a plastic club then? Do they buy players using Credit Cards?
Guardiola is a top mamanger and has assembled a great team. BUT they have all the money they need and have not made it by their own efforts. Maybe to some extent now they have but they havent got where they are by using their own made wealth. Do they own the ground? I dont think so and probably that was a big temptation to Sheik Mansur and his country - State - when they bought them

That's a bit of a daft comparison given Ferguson's first two years were 1986-1988.Spijed wrote:Aside from Foden he's not exactly been great at promoting young players into the team. Fergie on the other hand was light years ahead in that respect.

Agree. Mostly real fans (Mancunians) and an ability to laugh at themselves (they needed it a few years ago). Yes they will have aquired a few plastics, they're bound to have with their success and money, but generally I don't begrudge them much. To be honest the title race is good for me because I don't care which of the two wins it. They are the best 2 of the so-called big six. I have no time for United or the London clubs (especially the cheating Gooners) and Chelsea fans are arrogant beyond belief.BurnleyFC wrote:Manchester City, regardless of their massive wealth, are definitely not a “plastic” club.

The ground is still owned by Manchester City Council who built it for the Commonwealth games.
When City moved there they gave their old ground to the council and agreed to pay the council £2m a year rent. Recently this was renegotiated and they now pay £4m a year but in return the council handed over stadium naming rights to Man City....which was not a bad deal for City as the owners agreed to a £350m ten year deal to name the stadium.
All above board and within FFP rules of course !

You've answered my question ref the ground. I didn't know who owned it. But thats not the main point of my postTVC15 wrote:Don’t really understand your point about the ground.

Totally agree, if you watch back their games you'll see the difference between teams, they put some serious work in on the training ground which shows on the pitch, their energy, their quickness to win the ball back, all of their players are confident with the ball and always have 2-3 players showing for the ball. I've never seen a team as good as city in my time watching English football (I'm 38) they are similar to burnley just but we don't have the skill and quickness and the majority of Burnley players think the ball is a bomb and hoof it as far away as they can saying that we have started passing the ball forward more these last few monthsPremierLeagueClass wrote:He managed arguably the greatest team football has ever seen at Barca and with City, he has brought a level of football never seen before in the Premier League...

He has won the league at city (but didn't with the team he inherited). But has constantly under achieved with them in Europe. He hasn't won the champions league for almost ten years!!!
He managed Bayern when they had an incredible team. When Germany were the dominant force in world football and Bayerns team consisted of most of those players. Neuer, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Mueller along with a peak Xabi Alonso, Robben, Ribery and Lewandowski.
Flatters to deceive in my opinion.

Jupp Heynckes built the foundations for Bayern Munich's success yet Guardiola couldn't win another Champions league despite having some world class players at his disposal.cricketfieldclarets wrote:He has won the league at city (but didn't with the team he inherited). Re: Guardiola on McNeil
Not winning the champions league is not failure.
You need luck to win it, everything going your way. Like not missing a penalty against Spurs or VAR not showing all the angles of a handball goal scored against you.
The clubs you have to beat are amazing. There's only one club can win it every year.
He's broken records galore in the premier league, the best coach we have had the pleasure of over here.

José Mourinho broke records when Chelsea got 95 points in 2004/05 yet it doesn't make him a better manager than Fergie who's never got the same points total at Man U.Quickenthetempo wrote:He's broken records galore in the premier league, the best coach we have had the pleasure of over here.

The amount of draws and last minute Steve Bruce winning headers wouldn't cut the mustard these days.

Pep Guardiola is a God in Catalunya. Ge won 6 out of 6 trophies, in a season, with his team.
He has transformed the style of football played by City.
He remains polite in victory and defeat.
He deserves applause.
The Dyche is the same, for us.

Re: Guardiola on McNeil
Not sure how people can say Guardiola isn't a good manager.
Yes, he's had all the money in the world to spend, and obviously that helps. However over the last 20/30 years there have been a lot of premier league managers who have had the ability to spend crazy money and 'buy the league'... some go through lots of managers because they don't like the style, results, tactics, some stay, spend lots of money and win trophies... but none have come in with the reputation Guardiola had and still create the style, a winning style - A style many said 'you couldn't do in the Premier League', but he has.

Not true. Although not very often when he loses he isn't polite at all. See Wigan in FA Cup for example.IanMcL wrote:He remains polite in victory and defeat.
