Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
Just put another thread on this, suprisingly I couldn't see this one at first due to the ******** on the site.
Not sure how it can be prevented though.

How can “apoteka” not be banned?
Surely this can be managed effectively?
Forums on its arse due to trolling, spam could finish it off for many.

Agree with your last point although the spamming is actually better than the very small handful of ***** who are wrecking this board to the extent that I post far less often these days.

Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
Theres a relatively new verb growing in its usage around south western parts.
It's called ""awfulising""
It's what many are doing here on this thread.
It's no biggie....it will get sorted. Eat your breakfasts and come back soon.

Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
You have to feel for the mods, they have have wake to this and it’ll take up part of their weekend to tidy it all up. I don’t know what goes into deleting mass threads and fixing the issue but it doesn’t help when you have people whinging about it. It doesn’t affect you. Chill out.

The spamming is no big deal for anyone other than the moderator who has to tidy it up. Don't see how they can stop it either.claptrappers_union wrote:You have to feel for the mods, they have have wake to this and it’ll take up part of their weekend to tidy it all up. Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
Not sure if it’s possible in this forum, but on other forums I’ve had to interact with 10 other threads before being able to post a new topic, and then not in the first week after registering.

The mods shouldn’t be allowed a lie in of course. They should be on here 24/7. Besides I found the spam quite useful when I needed a new passport.

You could change the way you can register an account on the site, this will prevent automated bots from creating accounts and spamming the site.

Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
Dont know if this is anything to do with this attack but from 4am until 6am I was not permitted to view any of the site. Now I originally thought I may have been banned because of a thread I started yesterday. But then just now I have been able to log in. Just wondering whether whoever is spamming the site also has the capability to block anyone using the site at the same time?ClaretTony wrote:jdrobbo & MDWat have removed the posts and I've since deleted the two usernames that had posted them. Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
Thanks to the mods for sorting this.
Maybe it's an idea to manually approve new accounts so it stops people from doing this at stupid times.

Maybe best to stop any new members joining for a week until it blows over and they move onto another site.

Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
It may be worth checking if the phpbb version in use on the board is the current version and upgrading if need be. The system is open source so fixes are always being released in new versions.
However if the spammers are legitimately creating accounts, logging in, then posting theres not much you can do to stop this. Even the Captcha tools are useless if theres a genuine human at the other end.

I'm not sure how it is happening to be honest. It was two new users last night, both registered and posting while I was in the land of zzzzzs. I'm pretty helpless on it but I've set two of the mods up this morning with some extra facilities that will help them get rid of the posts quicker should we have a reoccurrence of this morning.

When I came in last night at 10pm my time, the front 2 1/2 pages were taken up, all posted within the last 2 hours.
You could make someone a mod in a different time zone.

Re: MODS PLEASE WAKE Up-Get rid of the spam threads
On the site I manage we have managed to keep spammers away by implementing a "first post approval" system.
It's discussed here but the specific settings may be different as this is quite an old post
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1491305" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You just need to watch out for the sneaky spammers who try and get round the system by pretending to make a legit post. You can normally spot them a mile away as what they post is usually very dum and irrelevant
Q and A captcha is also effective as you could ask simple Burnley related questions to throw spammers off track
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... a-captcha/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only issue I could envisage with the second option is that could restrict genuine non-clarets/other teams fans from posting
(Although based on some contributors may not be bad idea)

Could we not just create a separate section of the Board for spam? That way people interested in drugs, penis enlargers and fake passports can communicate with each other without ruining the main forum for everyone else

That is not a problem bfcmartin - that is Google collecting information from the site that might be relevant to a Google user’s search.bfcmartin wrote:I don't know if the mods are aware but when you look at the people logged in there's someone logged in as "google bot"
