That was like a bloody training session

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sun Apr 28, 2019 4:03 pm

Backs to the wall. Allowed them wave after wave of attack. And it was bloody brilliant. We must train like that every week. We were pheonomenal. Not sure how many shots we had. If any. But that was a defensive masterclass. Heaton, Mee and Lowton in particular.

Shame we couldnt just nick one. But for City to finish with 6 defenders on the pitch, waste time and spoil at the end shows they knew they were in a game.

Very proud of the team and the fans. Both were incredible.

I'm not sure if the opening post is being sarcastic or not - "City were in a game"??? Sorry, if they were I missed it. It was purely a case of could our 10 man defence hold out for an hour and a half.
Apologies to any football lovers watching on Sky.

I thought it was an excellent watch. Other than City v Huddersfield today was the biggest David v Goliath game the division has to offer, sure our passing was crap but **** me did we battle hard. If you can't be impressed by the will of both sides in a game like that I suggest that you go watch a different sport.

Can never understand why people don't appreciate the defensive side. Perhaps that's changed today with Van Dyjk winning POTY mind!?

And just think City's 'passing' in the first half was some of the worst I've seen at the Turf - worse than ours apart from one woeful diagonal ball right across the field setting City up for an attack.

Some folk's understanding of football equates to the cricket fan who can only appreciate 20:20 cricket and thinks when your are 9 down in the second innings needing 350 to win with a day to play and draw the match with 301 still on the board is not cricket-well it is and our display yesterday was football. City with that team would have beaten the Laws' eleven of 2010 by a cricket score.
Like it or lump it against the top clubs sometimes we have to play not to lose BUT his subs were with the intent of trying to draw or win it IMO
Well done the boys in C&B

There are always going to be those who think we can actually do something different against the really, really, really, really good sides.

They are still wrong though.

Not quite sure what else you are expected to do apart from try to be as tight as possible and hope to score on the break or from a set piece.

We are one of the best in the league at what we do, and its a lot more sensible than getting meaningless plaudits and being hammered every week.

If we open the game up we give ourselves no chance at all against this sort of side. One of the best teams ever as proven by the points tally over 2 seasons. You have to defend unbelievably and hope for a break. Sometimes you need the ref to do his job like sending Kompany off at the Etihad, for example.

Absolute masterclass in defending. It’s a shame Hanson isn’t on the Beeb anymore to appreciate it.

That classic mistake of not realising that trying to be contrary is contrary to contrariness.

It was a masterclass at defending but we came up way short when trying to go forward.

City weren't at their best by a long chalk but they just get the ball under control so quick in tight situations.

I don’t remember a shot of any nature or a touch in their box.
