Sheffield United and Chris Wilder

Post by Cubanclaret » Sun Apr 28, 2019 9:28 pm

Didn’t see a thread and I think they deserve one. My local team for 14 years so have a soft spot.
10 years since we sent them into a tailspin with the Wembley win, and now they have sealed their recovery to the top flight playing some excellent football under Chris Wilder.
Wilder put his own job on the line last summer to effectively bring together warring factions of a split ownership while masterminding a promotion campaign with a squad of players all from the lower leagues.
A phenomenal effort of 3 promotions in 4 seasons (With two clubs) and tactically very astute football.
Great to see the twitter feed of them all getting hammered all afternoon after the Leeds draw. Looking forward to going back to the Lane for a top flight fixture with Burnley (for the first time).

Hope they do well but think they will struggle along with Norwich and whoever else comes up through the play offs ..all the better for us I suppose.

Agree Wilder has been fabulous. But, I'm glad they have come up, because I think it's another team, who can finish below us.

The media spent so much time blowing smoke up Bielsa’s arse that they almost ignored the job Wilder has done until the last few weeks.

Some belting videos going around from this weekend, Egan performing a chant he’d made at the end of season awards and the fan falling through the bus stop.

Really like Wilder, Sheff Utd through and through as is the captain Sharp. Bet it was some party

Like Naaaarch, they'll have to splash the cash big time to have a chance of staying up.

But yes, well done.

They’ll be patronised and written off every bit as much as we are but I think they’ll be ok.

And Bramhall Lane is a good away trip, now Huddersfield are gone.

100% self interest here, but glad Norwich and Sheff Utd have gone up.

Both aren't massively backed, both very like us.

Always better for us if the smaller, less well off teams come up.

Does this mean that Ched Evans is now a premier league player? I think he is only out on loan at Fleetwood

Done an unbelievable job with that squad.

Always said he’d be the perfect replacement when Dyche does move on.

We have to remember as well that the Blades were relegated in 2007 with one of the biggest travesties in the history of English football (the Tevez issue).

I’m thus delighted for them. They have a chance of staying up for a year, as Huddersfield did.

He’s done very well at Bramall Lane, playing an exciting brand of football, with a motley crew of players. And all for his Home Town Club. It’s a bit of a Fairy Story, really.
He’ll have to pull another one out of the hat to stay up next season, but that’s a tale for another time.

Well done Sheff Utd and Chris Wilder.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I have a soft spot for them but having lived in Sheffield for three years back in the day I certainly prefer them to Wednesday.

We just need Derby now to make it a bit more like old times and replace the Cardiff 6 points.

Never liked Sheff Utd. Especially growing up. Probably goes back to that game where inchy got sent off and it was absolutely freezing on the way home. Then they pummelled us at the turf and lots of bother that day. And then latterly Warnock era (although I don't dislike Warnock - was just pantomime). And we always seemed to struggle against them up until around the time we went up.

That said would much prefer them to Leeds. Always seem to be feisty games with Sheff Utd.
