Heaton
Phenomenal again today. Just seen the error (again) by De Gea. And has Heaton ever made any howlers for us?
More to the point have we ever had a better goalkeeper?
Some of the saves he makes, the command he has of his area and defence and the way he makes so many things look so routine is superb.
wish he was five years younger. And as someone who was a fan of Hart, safe to say that Heaton and Burnley is just right.

Re: Heaton
If he was five years younger he probably wouldn’t be as good as he is now, besides it is said that goalkeepers improve as they get older.

Re: Heaton
Why is Pope not on the bench? I wonder if hart has it written into his contract that if he's not no.1 he has to be on the bench? if that is the case, they shouldn't have signed him.

Heaton is a massive part of why we are in the Premier next season.

Tim bud listen, I appreciate you're excited but PLEASE don't turn into one of the happy clappers I see in our own home support more and more as the years go by. Our support has been infiltrated by gammons... 60 year old punters looking at the world through rose tinted glasses. Always be critical. It's the lifeblood of the sport, mate.

Re: Heaton
Our defenders never defended the goal line when Hart was in goal. Not blaming Hart but feel they didnt have the same understanding with him as keeper. Today both Lowton (very unlucky) and Mee defended the goal line.
Re: Heaton
If we had a good keeper in recent past I always said the best since Stephenson, I now think we have better, so it's the best since Blacklaw

If you're counting a goal kick going to the halfway line as a goalkeeper mistake you're a very harsh critic.tim_noone wrote:At Anfield recently...

Re: Heaton
He has been good since he came back and seems better at coming for crosses than he previously was IMO however I wouldn't say he is faultless and a couple of times I have thought he could have done better with some of the goals we have conceded but I am very happy to have him here still and think he is definitely in the top two keepers I have ever seen play for us (Pope is the one challenging him for top spot).
Would love to see Pope given a chance again but Tom deserves the spot and I expect Pope to leave in the summer so I guess that is unlikely to happen.
Tom still has (at least) 5 seasons or so left in him I reckon so we have plenty of time to find another young replacement if we keep Hart as number 2.

Re: Heaton
No keeper is faultless these days due to the demands of the game and the genuine unpredictability of the modern ball . That said Heaton is remarkably sparse with errors and I can’t even recall a stonewall howler ( and all keepers have em)

Re: Heaton
What I have always liked is his ability to catch the ball when other keepers "bottle it" - just as De Gea did yesterday.
He is far and away the best keeper I have seen play for Burnley. And, he is a wonderful Captain. Long may it continue!

Re: Heaton
He made a similar mistake to that against West Brom a few seasons ago but got away with it. His kicking isn’t always the best (which no doubt counts against him, especially where the big clubs are concerned) and there certainly have been times when you thought “he might have done better” (like the league cup match at Burton).tim_noone wrote:At Anfield recently...
But what I can’t remember him ever doing - and this is what I think marks him out as one of the best - is make the sort of crass handling errors that deGea has regularly been making recently, and which we see fairly frequently from Pickford and even Alisson. “Great shot-stopper” is a given at pretty much every level of professional football; beyond that, my no1 requirement is a keeper who doesn’t f### up.
Best I’ve ever seen at Burnley.

He’s our best player.
People don’t tend to think of keepers in those terms, but he absolutely is.

From his 1st game I saw him play away at Carlisle (friendly) and the peacock calls to organise his defence.
We haven't looked back much
