Gibson is a left sided centre back, just like Mee. He is not a suitable replacement for TarksVegas Claret wrote:It's why we signed Gibson, Mee will make him worth 40 million

don't think so...Bolton have a transfer embargo!Hibsclaret wrote:I think he may go to a bigger team than Leicester, perhaps nearer home.
Gibson and Mee would never workVegas Claret wrote:It's why we signed Gibson, Mee will make him worth 40 million
People may say the same about Mee.Shore claret wrote:don't understand why any "top team " would want Maguire hes nothing more than ordinary.
It wont happen. Because there does seem to be a big reluctance to play two players who are left footed (or right footed) together. But I don't think its as big a deal as is made out.ClaretTony wrote:Gibson and Mee would never work
If its United he rocks up at, he's certainly better than Smalling or Fat Jones.Shore claret wrote:don't understand why any "top team " would want Maguire hes nothing more than ordinary.
Have to agree. Rodgers is a miserable f**ker. And not keen on him personally. But he is a very good manager who plays good football.CaptainKirk wrote:I think you may be underestimating Leicester a bit there. I think they will be a top team next season. Now he's left the pub league Rodgers is showing what a good manager he could be and they could be an attractive bet for any player given the chance.
Always found it strange that you can play two right footers but it doesn't work with two left footers.cricketfieldclarets wrote:It wont happen. Agree. I think its porbably because there are more people who are right footed therefore its more common, especially at junior level for two right footers to play together.ClaretTony wrote:Always found it strange that you can play two right footers but it doesn't work with two left footers.
That's uniteds problem, you can have one average centre back but you cant have 2, Smalling and Jones both average.ElectroClaret wrote:If its United he rocks up at, he's certainly better than Smalling or Fat Jones.
I've said this before and totally agree. A defender should be able to control, turn, pass or kick long with either foot, so it shouldn't make a difference. One of my nephews is 6 and whilst his strongest foot is his right, I've always got him using his left as well when we've been down at the park, in the garden etc and he can now pass with his left foot and shoot reasonably well with it too. They should certainly be coaching that more in the younger ages as it can be done in a fun way, which is what's important at that age.gtclaret wrote:I remember when I was a child, my dad telling me that I would never be a footballer unless I was able to use both feet. didn't realise he was left footed because he hardly ever plays, fair point !! In which case we'll need a new CB if Tarks leaves !MRG wrote:Gibson is a left sided centre back, just like Mee. He is not a suitable replacement for Tarks
Like for like Tarkowski is a better player than Maguire,I think he will leave us in the summer for a bigger club than Leicester.AndyClaret wrote:If Leicester want £90M for Maguire, how much is Tarky worth ?

Whose this Russian then?Millertime v1.7 wrote:Every dog has his day. Sadly for our Russian friend he peaked two years ago and hasn't been able to maintain ANY consistency ever since.
Yep right till we played a decent teamjrgbfc wrote:So Tarkowski is better than Maguire who didn't put a foot wrong when England reached the world cup Semis? What are we basing that on, when we take off our claret tinted specs?
If anyone was at fault for Croatia's winner it was Trippier and Walker. I'm just struggling to see why people think Tarks is better than Maguire tbh.Stayingup wrote:Yep right till we played a decent team
One is left sided one is right sided. I havent seen too much of Maguire (in fact only 4 minutes this season !!!). But I would think.Maguire edges it.jrgbfc wrote:If anyone was at fault for Croatia's winner it was Trippier and Walker. I'm just struggling to see why people think Tarks is better than Maguire tbh.
Did we sign Gibson because Mee had been stalling on his latest deal and may have wanted out?ClaretTony wrote:Gibson and Mee would never work
We signed him because we needed another central defender. The Mee deal was all but done. We moved for Gibson when we missed out on Mawson.boatshed bill wrote:Did we sign Gibson because Mee had been stalling on his latest deal and may have wanted out?
He's thinking I got more money than I would have got at Burnley so I don't give a sh1tbodge wrote:Wonder what Mawson is thinking now ?
Pity poor Alfie.
I totally agree, but modern coaches tend to concentrate on working on outfield players strengths, and only to a lesser extent on their weaknesses. Well, that's what Zidane said......FactualFrank wrote:I've said this before and totally agree. Both Arjen Robben & Ryan Giggs were pretty much one-footed throughout their careers and it never stopped them playing at the highest level.gtclaret wrote:I remember when I was a child, my dad telling me that I would never be a footballer unless I was able to use both feet. I actually think there's value in having left footed centre halves. Given that more players favour their right foot to shoot then they'd more likely take on a centre half to the defender's left in order to strike centrally towards goal - much like having a left footed left back to combat a right footed winger's crosses.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Agree. Agree but you can get a lovely, natural bend on the ball with the outside of your boot. Why can’t he check back and try that? Only negative being it is bending towards the keeper.IWOODLOVETT wrote:You don’t often see a more one-footed player than our own Charlie Taylor. It limits his effectiveness as he never switches to deliver an in swinging cross with his right foot and, when isolated in defence, wingers will always cut inside on his weak right side.
Opponents know these are his weaknesses and set up for them.
Unfortunately Charlie will never become an international player or play at a higher level unless he can find a coach who can miraculously change his spots.
He would play Long on the right side before Gibson.ksrclaret wrote:I can say with some certainty that Dyche would have no issues playing with two left footed centre halves in the team.
And I can say that because he simply wouldn’t have bought Gibson if that was the case.
