Idling vehicles

Post by Burnley Ace » Tue Apr 30, 2019 2:04 pm

There’s an article in a paper today about New York offering a bounty to people who report cars parked with their engines running (25% of the fine)

Why is it that every away team coach keepsits engine on when parked outside the ground - it must be for 4 hours?

Ask any fleet manager, cutting out your drivers time spent with vehicles idling is the best way of reducing fuel consumption across the fleet. Saves £££s.

It's scandalous when they leave those coaches engines ticking over all that time.. .I struggle to breathe as I walk past.

That's one reason why stop start technology was introduced, to minimize the time an engine idles for.

It can, of course, be over ridden, but the idea is a good one.

Apart from diesel vehicles, it increase the chance of a DPF blocking up, but at some point the Industry will be pulled up for that one

It also wears out the starter motor and fuel pumps and a few other parts. Daft idea which doesn't work!

Report them to the council environment services. They should be able to measure the pollution and fine them.

Yeah that too, but they've changed some of the tech so that wear is also reduced.

And it was man city. At they have a crew of flunkies who's sole job is to make sure the players cars are not too hot in summer, not too cold in winter when they finish trading to drive home.

I have a VW with an Auto DSG gearbox - stop/start is fitted but its the most annoying thing in the world. Just as you are about to pull out at speed onto a roundabout you realise the engine has cutout..... and it takes a good second to fire up again.

I have stop start on my BMW and it is a royal PITFA. You stop in a queue just as it is about to move, only for the engine to cut out and then start again less than a second after it stopped. Can't be any good for emissions, fuel consumption or wear and tear of parts. There is an option to turn this off but each time you make a journey. Sure there will be something in the menus that can disable it.
