Faro to Lisbon
Anyone done this by public transport? How quick, easy and reliable is it?
Done Lisbon to Porto and was easy enough.
In short land late at night in Faro but need to be in Lisbon the next evening (or earlier). So will be staying near the airport before making our way next day.
Weighing up public transport or hiring a car. Only issue with the latter is we are flying out of Porto... (long story short need to be in Lisbon on specific days and can only travel to and from portugal on specific days. No suitable flights to Lisbon available.)
Dont mind driving, train or bus. Whichevers easiest.

Re: Faro to Lisbon
I've done it by by train, it took four hours, may be a better service now. it's a nice journey, seeing the countryside, I think it stops at Setubal and you can see a bit of the port. When it gets to the inner lagoon you then have to take the ferry. It looks like the sea and then Lisbon appears, you end the journey, I'm not sure but it might be a bit of train again as I remember getting out of a station at the base of Lisbon right into the old centre of the town. It's was OK.
The train and ferry is all part of the package, one ushered from train to ferry etc.

Done it by hire car. Easy drive. One way rentals are quite common now since the advent of low cost flights. Most rentsl websites have that option built in / allow for it.

Little traffic on the Portuguese roads. Set the cruise control at 95mph, put your head back, relax, and you will be there in a couple of hours.

Re: Faro to Lisbon
Have thought this. Both flights are booked with the same airline. But didnt book at time of booking.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:Done it by hire car. Easy drive. One way rentals are quite common now since the advent of low cost flights. Most rentsl websites have that option built in / allow for it.
Are the standard sites worth looking at enterprise etc or better with money supermarket / compare the meerkat etc now?

Re: Faro to Lisbon
You can get a direct train from Faro right into city. It’s about 4 hours, not very expensive and fairly comfortable
Re: Faro to Lisbon
I looked for a one way rental in Spain and I think ( correctly it incorrectly) it used to be more widely accepted. It seemed very expensive this time dnd I changed itinery so I could return the car to the same airport. Apart from this the roads in Portugal are good.

Re: Faro to Lisbon
I regularly go from Lagos to Lisbon by bus, so I'm sure Faro to Lisbon will be an equally painless experience. The bus/coach drivers are excellent, and if there isn't a toilet on board, they stop for a fifteen-minute break at a service station. Just listen for the driver shouting, ''quinze minutas''. That all said, I have been told the train is quicker.

Re: Faro to Lisbon
Why don't you just fly direct to Lisbon?
Re: Faro to Lisbon
sorry I see you say no suitable flights, but with the number of flights to Lisbon surely they are more suitable than transferring from Faro....

Re: Faro to Lisbon
The services stop isn’t like when you come back from an away game down somewhere daft like London or even further, we’ve lost by a stupid amount of goals to nil, you stop at the services and the driver says 15 minuets, yet 25 minuets later you’re still sat there waiting to get home and to bed as some people aren’t back on board yet due to either chain smoking 5 fags as they can’t go a few hours without one, or because of a stupid reasons like ‘the queue at McDonald’s was too long.’ Drives me nuts. Take sandwiches like us normal folk so we can all get home as soon as! Rant over.Quicknick wrote:I regularly go from Lagos to Lisbon by bus, so I'm sure Faro to Lisbon will be an equally painless experience. Re: Faro to Lisbon
Only from Luton on the day we fly out. Which arguably would have been easier to do the driving this end. But the times weren't ideal.Reckoner wrote:sorry I see you say no suitable flights, but with the number of flights to Lisbon surely they are more suitable than transferring from Faro....

It quickly became apparent why the country went bust.
They spent 100 million euros on a motorway and there was only me paying the 20 euro toll.
No other car in sight either way for mile after mile ( or should that be kilometer )
Re: Faro to Lisbon
Faro train station is literally only about 20mins from airport. There’s a bus or plenty of taxis. Station only small so easy to navigate.

Not so fast, CC. We haven't finished yet. . Now I'm going to tell you everything you need to know in detail. The harbour of Central Faro has the railway between it and the sea. If you walk round the harbour to the right facing the sea, the train station is about 400 yards from the harbour. You can get a nice cup of coffee at the...

Spain is the same. You get away from the major cites and the toll roads are traffic free. The Portuguese can't afford to use the toll roads eitherNonayforever wrote:I've done the route by road.
