Off of TV.
Tom 7
Mee 9
Tarks 8
Westwood 7
The rest 4 including Dyche.

Second best all over most of the pitch tonight.

Wood really does need to practise trapping the ball.

Heaton - 5 a major error, made it game over.
Lowton - 5 poor in possession, woeful crossing
Tarky - 7 did well
Meet- 8 unlucky with the goal, but very good again
Taylor 7 steady
JBG - 6 quiet, lightweight
Cork 6
Westwood 6
Brady - 5 poor in possession, set pieces were rank, took forever to pass, and it was read time after time.
Barnes 5
Wood 5

A very poor day at the office indeed. 2nd half we huffed and puffed, but we never looked like getting a result. Those players that came in didn't grab the shirt.

Heaton 4 very poor for 2nd
Lowton 4 got to close down quicker
Taylor 6 another decent display
Mee 7 improved as game went on. Slow start
Tarkowski 6 struggled at times with Lewin
Brady 4 rusty again but important he gets some game time
Cork 6 struggled first half especially
Westwood 4 should have seen red and was poor
JBG 3 very poor
Barnes 4 anonymous
Wood 3 how he stayed on for 90 mins is incredible. I honestly can’t remember a worse performance.

McNeil 4 a few trademark turns but final ball very poor
Vydra 4 one good run amazingly didn’t get given as a foul.

An extremely poor performance, on the back of two, even 3, very tough games and with nothing to play for it’s perhaps understandable but it was poor nonetheless.

Heaton 7 no chance with 2nd in fact did well to reflex the save going away from him
Lowton 5 sluggish never got his stride
Tarks 7 probs our best player
Mee 7 unlucky with 1st
Taylor 6 decent enough
JBG 5 not at the races against this quality
Westwood 5 could of been Jeff , ever decreasing circles
Cork 5 better 2nd half but looked tired early doors
Brady 6 rusty but tried a bit
Wood 3 awful
Barnes 4 no service

Pretty poor as we stagger towards a very disappointing season end

Our stand out best players as per most games are

Tarky
Mee

The rest were 5 or under. Half of the remaining are championship players at best plus barnes AND wood can easily be replaced

McNeil 5 - looked tired and gave ball away at least 3 times
Hendrick -6

Still been a great season considering where we were at Christmas. We definitely need an injection of pace and power but after watching us at Barnet and Orient it is great that we can look forward to another season in the top league !

Everton look a really good team - we were 2% below our best and just couldn't live with them in the first part of the game, which did all the damage.

Heaton - 6 - Tidy enough for the most part, but he won't need anyone to tell him that he made a major, if uncharacteristic, error for the second goal.

Lowton - 7 - Only Burnley player willing to take his time in possession and try and keep the ball in the first quarter of the game, steady enough defensively for the most part, but he had opportunities to show more quality in the final third and he might have closed down the shot better for the opening goal.

Taylor - 7 - Steady enough for the most part, but caught ball watching on the second goal and it wasn't the only time.

Tarkowski - 8 - Another very dominant night's work.

Mee - 7 - an unfortunate nick for the opening goal but stuck to his task well and along with Tarks kept Everton at arms length after that first 25 minutes.

Westwood - 6 - Grew into the game well, but too quick to cough up possession early in the game when we needed someone in the centre of the field to put their foot on the ball and help us knit a few passes together.

Cork - 6 -Marginally better in possession than Westwood early on, but whilst he stuck at his task well, we were always second best in that department.

JBG - 6 - Bright and breezy after a slow start, without any real end product. Might have done better with the half chance that came his way.

Brady - 7 - Surprise selection, but more than justified it with a diligent defensive performance and a busy, creative forward performance. He looked the most likely to create a chance and his quality showed promise for next season.

Barnes - 5 - Never really in the game, other than a tidy finish when offside in the first half, and on too many occasions early on he failed to do enough to protect the ball.

Wood - 6 - An occasional threat, and his extra mobility made him a better outball than Barnes by and large.

McNeil - 6 - A couple of lovely moments, a couple of less effective ones.

Vydra - 6 - His first couple of minutes on the pitch showed real promise and he should have had a penalty (or at least a free kick on the edge), but he didn't really sustain his impact.

Hendrick - 6 - We missed him from the start tonight but he didn't really have a chance to really influence the game

At 2-0 down after a poor start, this could have been a big score and perhaps earlier in the season would have been, so credit to the players for keeping going and regrouping, even if this owed a bit to the fact Everton eased off and the impressive Richarlison went off injured. The last 15 minutes of the first half were OK, and the first 15 of the second half more than acceptable. Unfortunately, we couldn't do much more than create half chances and Everton gradually eased back into their superiority.

In truth, this probably demonstrated our shortcomings and where we'll look to strengthen in the summer. In the first 25-30 minutes we needed more composure and quality on the ball in midfield to let help us grow into the game, and we never had the pace on the break to give us an alternative method of getting up the pitch and causing Everton a problem. Too often in that period all 20 outfield players were in our half because Everton knew they had nothing to worry their pacey centre backs in behind.

No disgrace though.

I copied the names from Kly’s post to save me typing them, went to edit the scores then realised I agreed with all of them.

The trouble with being our style and being safe, when we don’t have that extra 1% Adrenalin, we have very little else.

One thing I would say (again) is that this is the third or fourth major howler Tom has made in the last month or so. I don’t recall Hart making one before he was dropped apart from one in that final game perhaps. Seems to be a different rule for Hart, but I admit results have improved and am also admitting that there seems few other takers with rumours of Birmingham going for him. I just find it all very, very odd because on the face of it he has the attributes of a top class keeper, whereas Tom is Tom, perfect for Burnley but not really capable of going any further because he lacks that final bit to make a keeper top class.

Heaton 5 bad error for the second meant it was game over
Lowton 3 A new right back is a priority
Taylor 6
Mee 7 mom
Tarkowski 6 stop trying the Hollywood pass!
Cork 4
Westwood 4 lucky not to see red
Gudmundsson 5 we are better with Hendrick on the right
Brady 4 Woeful and injured again
Barnes 4
Wood 5 control,control,control

A strange game where but for two bad errors and another cr@p officiating decision we could actually have got something out of this game, even if we had performed at half our best. I thought second half we actually were the better side to be fair

Individuals whatever. As a team, when we pressed the switch to play passing football there were some nice and skilful pieces but it seemed like we didn't really believe we could sustain it and someone played a training ground ball.

Bit baffled why SD, so often loyal to the players in possession of the shirt, decided to drop 2 of our best performers in recent games for 2 others who's bit part performances recently have been less than impressive.

Thought at one stage we were in for a repeat of the Boxing Day massacre. Thankful in the end it was just the two, but our short-fallings are there for all to see.
Heaton 5-Can't be too hard on Tom as he's instrumental in saving our season, but that second was one howler.
Lowton 4-A concern position for me and hope it's one addressed in the upcoming window.
Mee 7-Played well especially in the second half.
Tarkowski 8*-Just shaded it for me from Mee.
Taylor 5-On the edge and given a torrid time early doors.
Gudmundsson 6-He did try to get us on the front foot but with little support.
Cork 5-Can't fault JC's industry but again he looked physically off the pace.
Westwood 7-very industrious and tried hard, unfortunately with little reward.
Brady 7-My heart sank when he was selected but I felt he was one of our better players, especially offensively.
Barnes 5-Took his off side goal well but apart from that he didn't show much for me. Well shackled.
Wood 4-On the periphery of the game. Zouma too much for him.

Vydra has looked lively in his cameo roles in the last two games. I certainly think he deserves more minutes and hope he get's them against Arsenal. McNeil looked tired both physically and mentally and it was no surprise to me that Gudmundsson started. Certainly not a criticism, more an observation but I'm sure he will come back stronger next season. Not Hendrick's biggest fan, as those around me in the BL will testify. However, he's played well of late and his omission from the start was telling as Lowton looked too exposed without Jeff supporting him.

Heaton 5 howler
Lowton 4 poor game Bardsley for Arsenal ?
Tarkowski 7
Mee 7
Taylor 6
JBG 5
Cork 4 poor again
Westwood 5 could have been easily sent off
Brady 4 doesn’t offer enough of anything
Barnes 5
Wood 4 he should have been hooked. Ball control, trapping the ball ....

We weakened the side by changing the 2 wide men. Brady is currently not up to it imo. There was no energy or pace anywhere, poor passing and ball control and posession given up easily. While Everton are a decent team it was an easy win for them. if Wood can’t be arsed then maybe Vydra could start against Arsenal to see what he can do. If we are to move forward we need to upgrade the likes of Lowton, Cork and Brady.

by TVC15
Heaton : 6 - bad mistake
Lowton : 6 - thought he struggled
Taylor : 7 - coped better than Lowts
Tarks : 8 - defended really well
Mee : 8 (MoM) - another great game
Westwood : 6 - thought our midfield were second to every ball in that first half. His booking I thought was purely down to him being slower to the ball rather than anything deliberately malicious
Cork : 6 - ditto Westwood
JBG : 6 - better second half
Brady : 5 - don’t understand some of the higher scores. He played a couple of decent balls but gave the ball away with unnecessary flicks, sloppy or under hit passes and constantly made the wrong decision when we were in good positions in the second half. His stats from last night would be interesting.
Barnes : 5 - not his night.
Wood : 6 - slightly better than Barnes but again missed a great opportunity with his first touch when put through.
Vydra : 6 - couple of nice touches and absolutely shocking decision for the penalty from the referee and linesman who both had perfect views
McNeil : 5 - think he might have put Brady’s boots on looking at the first couple of passes. Made a couple of good runs after that and brave as ever running at their defence.
Hendrick : 5 - difficult to have any impact

Shocking first half where we could not cope with Everton and just seemed half asleep when we had the ball and too slow when we didn’t.
Much better second half where if we would have got a goal I think we could have got a draw. Frustratingly we got in a lot of good positions with spare men but poor touches and wrong decisions meant we never made the most of them.
Hope we get ourselves up for Arsenal next week.

Westwood 6 - didn’t really get into the game
Cork 4 - our biggest weakness. He never seems to actually get into the game.
Brady 7 - promising return, assist for Barnes’ offside goal was class, a few great balls into the box.
Wood 6 - not good but he gets so little service
Barnes 6

McNeil 5 - was poor when he came on but tried to create. He needs the rest.
Vydra 8 - short cameo but he was great. Some great touches, the one for the foul that wasn’t given was incredible, linked up with wood as well - played a couple of nice balls in behind. Got to start?

Watched on tv in the pub so I won’t post ratings. Understandably low scores for a few players but I find some accompanying comments frustrating.

“Pretty poor as we stagger towards a very disappointing season end”
Really? What were you expecting from the last two games?

“championship players at best plus barnes AND wood can easily be replaced”
The same lads who have produced European places form in the Premier League since Christmas?

What they’ve achieved and the toil to do so since our previous game v Everton is astonishing, and on the back of Sunday’s efforts against City to boot, of course they’re a little bit off it. They earned the right not to be scrapping like dogs last night by securing safety with 3 games to go. And by the way Everton are clearly a very good side.

So frustrating to watch. Too many times just booting the ball away to nothing in the first half. We really need more composure and pace in the team so we can counter attack effectively. Ball retention is massive and is the quality we lack the most as a team.

A weird, end of season non event where many of our players failed to turn up and we were absolutely second best. BUT having said that, Everton actually scored 2 quite fortunate goals and second half we did have chances and half chances to actually get back in it, despite never really deserving to. Plus the ref missed what from my admittedly crap view in the ground was a stonewall penalty. The one positive in my view was SD giving Vydra some game time and another chance to show a bit of something and again I thought he did show something. If we don't get back at the races for next week the people on here who seem pretty certain that this is the time to bury our Arsenal hoodoo are going to look pretty daft! Not actually too downhearted as ultimately the result isn't that important and we had a cracking (all) day on the beer as Liverpool has shed loads of excellent real ale places!!

Lacklustre is being kind. Just didn't look up for it, particularly 1st half.
