Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Scott completed his challenge to run to every away game in a season tonight. Got some good coverage on Sky.
This is a terrific achievement, just seems a shame he hasn’t yet reached his £38k target, £22k so far.

Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Really is an outstanding achievement. Great to see him getting recognition from the Burnley players and Everton fans last night.
Hopefully a big boost in donations on the back of it.

Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Problem with these is that whilst I would be more than happy to donate, frankly, I can't be having all the nonsense that goes with it. Either sign in via Facebook or register with Just Giving. So I don't bother. I'm sure it must put others off as well.

Corky, I’ll contact him and suggest he uses registered buckets at the last game?

I’ve been exhausted just reading about it. I spoke to him at Bournemouth, what an incredible achievement.

He runs over 3,000 miles for charity spread over many days and over a period of about 9 months, and it's a problem for someone to spend 2 minutes registering with "Just Giving"?
Fair enough.

Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
I have some sympathy with Corky. I donated to this fantastic effort 4-5 weeks ago via JustGiving and found that, by default, Id added an extra 10% to the amount I'd decided I to give (I think maybe goes to JG running costs?).
There an "how much extra shall I add" type question which is set to 10%; you have to change this to "other amount" and then put £0.00 to avoid adding more to what you've already stipulated.
It left a slightly sour taste that a commercial ruse "by default" option is being used to add to what people are voluntarily giving to charity.
Having said which, I've used Just Giving again since- this time being aware of the default ruse. I think they are aware that some people have given more than they intended because there was a questionnaire after the process asking "Are you aware you gave 10% extra".
Whatever the means, I hope SC gets nearer his target, it's a really huge effort he's made.

Out of interest Corky, why is the registering with JG such a pain? It does make the way of getting to as many people as possible, as easy as possible so will enhance every opportunity for people to donate.Corky wrote:I hope you feel better now you've got that off your chest.

Thanks for the prod.
He is still well below his target and just deserts.

Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Absolutely fantastic from Scott. What a dedication and sacrifice he has gone too.
Saw the clip of SD welcoming him to the changing room last night.
The buckets are a great idea but I secretly hope the players or the club will match the donations he has had.

A quick whip round among the playing staff would cover the gap surely?Burnleyareback2 wrote:Absolutely fantastic from Scott. What a dedication and sacrifice he has gone too.

Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Surely there is enough people, on the community, to deliver the result?
Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Personal preference. I do not want to join the Just Giving site. I already give, monthly, to charities that I support. Happy to give Scott money but not like this.Goodclaret wrote:Out of interest Corky, why is the registering with JG such a pain? Absolutely.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:A quick whip round among the playing staff would cover the gap surely?
If the players, staff and club can’t make sure that the target amount is at least met, then there’s something very wrong.
Re: Scott Cunliffe - Runaway Challenge
Not sure about that. The club fund the charity, in any case. Sureltmy Joe Public can sort this one....it goes back into Burnley community.

No but they take part in a lot of work for BitC.
It should not be 'expected', any more than we expected every Burnley resident to contribute.

Thought I'd bump this for Scott. Not sure what happened recently but he's nearly hit his target. Great effort all round!

Scott was introduced to guests at POTY and had a bucket by the side of the stage.
Great effort and it genuinely sounded as if he really did enjoy doing it,

Scott went into the dressing room before the Everton game ...Listening to SD talking it was clear the players had contributed, Ben Mee in particular. The footage is out there.

great stuff, he gave BFC lots of compliments during his speech, got a nice hand shake from Virgil Van Dijk (I would have preferred a boot to the shin to rule VVD out of Saturdays game!).
