Got a painful toothache at the moment which started yesterday evening and cannot get a dentist appointment until Tuesday due to bank holiday, I have tried warm saltwater in my mouth and tried some clove oil along with a couple of painkillers but no shifting it.

Does anyone have any useful tips on what I can try?

Ring the emergency dental service, they are open over the weekend. Call first thing and you should be seen that day buddy. Sat with my Dr lady and this is her business ...

I had a tooth collapse on me some time ago. After several remedies didn’t hit the spot I settled on a full bottle of scotch. That worked. Stopped me skriking.

The above suggestions are little short of witchcraft.
The only effective treatment is to get shut.

Definitely clove oil or cloves infused in boiling water, let it cool and swill around your mouth.
Whisky also helps

A mouthful of whisky held over the offending tooth for five minutes. Spit and repeat. Swallowing every third mouthful helps enormously ;-)

Ive had some bad toothache myself over last few weeks. There's only 2 things that worked for me, antibiotics or a visit to the dentist asap.
Clove oil stinks and doesnt have much affect, tablets are a lottery , some work some dont. I always get tootache at night for some reason.

I like Pure Essential oils and Cloce is the recommended oil for toothache.

Never worked for me.

I use Rosemary and that does work.

Most of my fillings are now missing and have been for the last 2 years. I avoid sugar and clean my teeth, gums and floss my teeth after every meal. I lost my back upper teeth 2 years ago and am now considering implants before the rest go

You can get alcoholic oil of cloves - works for me - not dyrr if it’s the cloves or the alcohol or both

You could try what's called 'oil pulling'.

If you've got coconut oil (or other cooking oils but I find coconut the least unpalatable), put about half a tablespoon in your mouth and swish around for twenty minutes - no longer. Spit out the oil - do not swallow or put it down the drain but with your compostables. Then rinse with warm water a couple of times, brush your teeth with just a toothbrush (no toothpaste), then rinse with warm water twice again.

I've done this with coconut oil and it does reduce mild toothache but I don't know about really bad problems.

It may work because it removes any sugary residue in your mouth - or the bacteria that feed on it. Sugar can increase toothache.

Best dentist advice I ever got was - If you want to look after your teeth - keep your mouth shut and don’t interfere in anyone else’s business.

You've had toothaches and cured them by munching or sucking rosemary?

Go to the nearest pharmacy/supermarket and get some Orajel. It’s basically novocaine. It numbs up the mouth nicely

A drop of pure essential oil.

No doubt you could do the other!

If you can find a Boots/Superdrug/Chemist open.

Had to survive a weekend once with half a molar before having it out on Monday.
A good rinse with warm salty water also offered very brief relief.

As an ex-dentist, may I recommend Stella, lots of, kills all known pain, until the following morning, then the headache will divert attention from the tooth.
