Come on Newcastle
Re: Come on Newcastle
Anyone who says the Premier League has declined is a flat out liar. This for me has been the best the Premier League has ever been - two incredible sides competing for the title, and two sides in the Champions League semis. Top top quality. We’re here at the right time tbh.

I look at the table and I see a virtually unimpeachable top six, then the rest of us. I don't like that at all.

Disagree. Look at Arsenal and then look at Wolves. One is a side handing Özil top wages and the other is a project aiming for a European spot in their first season of Premier League football under the new ownership.Hipper wrote:I look at the table and I see a virtually unimpeachable top six, then the rest of us. One is a project. One is a mess.

Leicester playing well. Won't be easy for City.

SD ain't bad either!SGr wrote:Rafa is an incredible tactical coach
Shows how good we've been of late that we can possibly overtake them on the last game of the season.

Re: Come on Newcastle
Fair play to Liverpool for taking this City team to the last day, it'll mean City spend another 200 million in the summer and the top 6 will just move further away from the rest of us
Re: Come on Newcastle
Leicester could still take 7th and impact the championship race!
Re: Come on Newcastle
I'd say apart from Liverpool & Man City the other four teams are no better, if perhaps worse than last season. None of them have played well in recent weeks.Vegas Claret wrote:Fair play to Liverpool for taking this City team to the last day, it'll mean City spend another 200 million in the summer and the top 6 will just move further away from the rest of us

That was not a foul that led to Liverpool's winning goal. What was the linesman actually seeing?

Vegas, City spent £69.38m in the since the end of last season, a net spend of between £20m/£21m. You might be mistaking them with their noisy neighbours from Old Trafford.

Re: Come on Newcastle
Newcastle played their part tonight in a pulsating game of football. So much quality in their team and yet, depending on results next weekend, we can finish above them in the table. A tremendous achievement that would be for us.

Re: Come on Newcastle
yeah, but if City spend 200 million, Man utd will need to spend 3 times that, Wolves and Everton will no doubt spend north of 100 million as could Leicester - like you pointed out the other day, the mystic 40 point mark could well be 32 or thereabouts next season. The division is getting even more divided every season and the bottom 6 times might end up only winning 8-10 games a seasonSpijed wrote:I'd say apart from Liverpool & Man City the other four teams are no better, if perhaps worse than last season. oh is that all, I'm talking about this summer if they don't win the league - they'll spend a fortuneDarnhill Claret wrote:Vegas, City spent £69.38m in the since the end of last season, a net spend of between £20m/£21m. You might be mistaking them with their noisy neighbours from Old Trafford.

Arsenal's front two are world-class,the rest are average at best, hence their inconsistency.SGr wrote:Disagree. Look at Arsenal and then look at Wolves. We can definitely turn them over next Sunday.
Re: Come on Newcastle
They say no club has ever been relegated if they've won 11 matches so that probably isn't much different. I think the 40 point mark was only ever used because it's a nice round number.Vegas Claret wrote:yeah, but if City spend 200 million, Man utd will need to spend 3 times that, Wolves and Everton will no doubt spend north of 100 million as could Leicester - like you pointed out the other day, the mystic 40 point mark could well be 32 or thereabouts next season. Relegation (18th placed team) currently averages around the 36 point mark and I think without looking back, that Cardiff - were they to finish on 31, would be the lowest since we went down with 30 points in 2009/10.

Re: Come on Newcastle
Something I’ve always wondered. When you talk about points needed to survive in any one season, should you look at the points gained by the third bottom team (ie the points needed to have finished above the highest relegated team) or fourth bottom (I.e the points the third bottom team would have needed to finish fourth bottom)?

Re: Come on Newcastle
Third bottom. The survival line is one point above that.
If third bottom finish on, say, 32 points and fourth bottom on 38 points then using 38 as the points needed to survive would be inaccurate.

Re: Come on Newcastle
That’s the way it’s generally done, but surely it’s just as fair to say that the team that was relegated needed 38 (or 39) points to survive that season.
Re: Come on Newcastle
The 40 point mark is used because statistically and analytically, only 2 teams have ever been relegated from the premier league when hitting the 40 point mark.Spijed wrote:They say no club has ever been relegated if they've won 11 matches so that probably isn't much different. I don't know what you mean by saying that mark is used because it's a nice round number?
