Sol Campbell
Keeps Macclesfield up at the expense of Notts County. Wo are out of the league for the first time ever.
Great job done by Campbell. Fancied himself as a good manager and has succeeded against the odds there.
4 points from their first 13 games. And a record no wins in 36 games.
Campbell has since only lost 9 in the next 26.
Looks like he has a bright future as a manager.

Re: Sol Campbell
Made a good start to his career, next season will be a true test though because he gets the summer to change the squad etc.
I'd like to see him succeed tbh.

Re: Sol Campbell
Arrogant person who thought being a top player meant he would automatically be given a top manager role.
Now he gets you have to work your way up
Going in too high can end in years.
Just ask Chris Waddle and Martin Buchan

No. He thought he had everything to be a top manager. Hes gone in amd took the hardest job available. And succeeded.Woodleyclaret wrote:Arrogant person who thought being a top player meant he would automatically be given a top manager role.

A very humble and modest bloke. All the best Sol.

Buchan was hardly going in too high in Div 4Woodleyclaret wrote:Arrogant person who thought being a top player meant he would automatically be given a top manager role.

All he asked was that he was given a chance in applying. It’s not as if he’s been applying for the ManUtd or Chelsea job.
What experience has “working up” have Lampard/Gerrard got over him that has seen them get managers jobs for teams in higher leagues?

Re: Sol Campbell
Credit where credit’s due; he did what he came to do at Moss Rose. The next test is to push them on next season. If he does that, then further kudos is due to him.

I think we should also add our congratulations to Michael Duff at Cheltenham. Once he got settled they pulled steadily away from relegation threats and ended the season in a comfortable position.

I can’t help but feel that Duff will have a more illustrious Managerial Career than Campbell. I can’t explain why; I just get that impression.Hipper wrote:I think we should also add our congratulations to Michael Duff at Cheltenham. Re: Sol Campbell
Doing a decent job, as is Duff.
Re: Sol Campbell
Have to give Campbell a lot of credit for keeping them up. Might be time for him to look for a bigger League 2 club now or it could go stale pretty quick at Macc.

I don't think any knows which positions he applied for other than himself.wilks_bfc wrote:All he asked was that he was given a chance in applying. It’s not as if he’s been applying for the ManUtd or Chelsea job.
What has disadvantaged him is probably his failure to be "one of the lads". There's a strong cultural & tribal element to football at all levels of the game.
Take us, for example, we have -historically- been more minded to appoint either from within or from players who have played for the club.
Who's names get bandied about as possible future Burnley managers?
In recent years I've heard all of the following ...
Mickey Mellon
Paul Cook
Joey Barton
Steve Davis (MK 1)
Mike Phelan
And probably a few more that I've forgotten.
Well done to Sol for sticking at it and he's made a very promising start. There might be a few chairman out there regretting their short-sightedness.

Duff had a terrible start at Cheltenham but he’s certainly turned things round. I think he’ll be getting a bigger club sooner rather than later.Lord Beamish wrote:I can’t help but feel that Duff will have a more illustrious Managerial Career than Campbell. I don't think Waddle started off with a "top" role - we were in the third tier.Woodleyclaret wrote:Arrogant person who thought being a top player meant he would automatically be given a top manager role.

Re: Sol Campbell
22nd in the 3rd Tier and relegation avoided on the last day of the season, and it's suggested he's done a good job.
The job he has done is absolutely astounding. Macc fans were resigned to relegation months ago and still fully expected it on Saturday.
Congratulations to Sol, to say he exceeded expectations in no way captures the magnitude of the achievement.

Can't say I'm an admirer of his in general but that's a fantastic achievement. Well done him.
