Welbeck on a free anyone?
Welbeck on a free anyone?
Apparently Arsenal are releasing Danny Welbeck on a free, Presumably wages would be to big for us, and I'm not sure of the extent of the ankle injury he suffered, but i have seen posts on here before (true or false) that we have looked at him?

Can’t afford him.
A definite upgrade tho, but without the poor injury record, he’d be going nowhere.
I’ll leave it thanks.

We need to steer clear of players that have been really good but then troubled with injuries. I'd like to see us go for more youth with potential, like Adams from Birmingham.

I’m with frank on this. Won’t be seeing this lad here now.
Every club in the PL can and will pay more than us for his services. Not a complaint, just a fact.

Ha, not a chance.
Nothing would convince me that signing up this sicknote would be a good idea.
Would be an absolute waste of money.

Not for me big wages and a history of injuries,we already have Defour being paid a fortune to lay on the treatment table.

I'd certainly have him here if wages weren't an issue which they would be

Have we got under-employed medical staff? I can't see any other reason to have him.

Not in a month of Sundays for me. Not the profile of player we should be looking for at all.

You may jest but, after being released, he stated that he expects to be ‘back playing at the highest level’. I wonder where that might be?

Re: Welbeck on a free anyone?
Welbeck has been at Arsenal for five and a half years and has started 46 Premier League games for them.

Without his injuries 100 percent yes. But wihout his injuries united wouldnt have got shut never mind arsenal.
Good player. But his main attributes were pace and strength. Hes getting older and had too many injuries for us to gamble.

Welbeck has scored 60 odd goals in 300 appearances for teams who consistently score a lot. 1 in 5? For United and Arsenal? Can’t see many wanting to take a risk on him.
42 caps for England though! 42!

I'd sign him on a pay per play basis.
So it's not likely that we shall see him at the turf if I was in charge.

Re: Welbeck on a free anyone?
From the free agents about - I’d go for Yohanne Cabaye
Prem experience, few years left in the legs I’d say - would fit in well with the ethos and the style. The class can not be argued either.

Newcastle linked could see Rafa taking a punt,Welbeck's England record looks decent 16 in 42,but many of those goals where scored against the likes of San Marino in qualifying games,he hasn't netted in a major tournament for England.Foulthrow wrote:Welbeck has scored 60 odd goals in 300 appearances for teams who consistently score a lot. 1 in 5? Re: Welbeck on a free anyone?
Not disagreeing with you entirely but when was the last time a club from the Prem signed a striker from the Championship, bar probably us. He is unproven, clubs would rather sign players from the top 4/6's academies/reserves like Solanke, Iheanachio, Ibe, Welbeck, Batshuayi. If we are in for him again I can only really see Southampton and Brighton chasing him too aswel as the promoted teams.FactualFrank wrote:I fear the ship has sailed with Adams. Teams in the Prem would rather waste money on supposed academy talents or journeymen strikers. This summer Mitrovic, Rondon, Gayle, Austin, Welbeck, Batshuayi, Sturridge are all probably going to become available and the chasing pack will be doing their utmost to capture these players rather than sign players from the Championship.

Re: Welbeck on a free anyone?
1. Welbeck isn't as good as he used to be.
2. Even when he was as good as he used to be, he has never reached 10 league goals in a season. Barnes and Wood both scored more this season than Welbeck has ever done.
So, no. A thousand times no.

It's being reported that he is seeking £100k a week wages and a £5 million signing on fee.
Can't imagine why he's still a free agent tbh.

Re: Welbeck on a free anyone?
Can see him ending up at somewhere like West Ham,they usually pay silly wages for washed-up players.
If he's serious about getting a decent club he'll have to lower his demands, sure he's a few agent, but you can't expect a big signing on fee and large wages.
Normally you get one or the other, and let's be honest he's no world beater,he's never managed double figures in a PL season.

They've just binned off Carroll and Wilshere probably isn't far behind.
I think they may actually be wising up unfortunately.
