Norwich and the trophy

I see Norwich were given the Championship trophy yesterday at Villa park. What happened to the Football League wanting as many people as possible witnessing the lifting of the trophy?

They could have - Norwich.

I'll never forget that the Football League denied me the opportunity to see Burnley lifting that trophy.

Do you practice being a prat?

Villa fans had pretty much gone home and surely if the FL are to be believed, they are conscious that as many fans as possible, who support the team who have won the league should be given the opportunity to see their team lift the trophy.

What do you think they should have done?

Doesn't explain why they chose to deny 4,500 Burnley fans the opportunity.

Sent the trophy to Middlesbrough "just in case"

Exactly what they did to Burnley, they either want as many to see or they don't.

£27k in Carrow road today would be a good idea if their comments were true with Burnley.

It's reminiscent of Britain hiding it's valuable artwork in Derbyshire caves when we thought the Germans were going to invade

If you're worried about Burnley fans having the opportunity to see their side lift the Football League trophy send it somewhere nobody will be able to see it - Middlesbrough.

They could waited a week and presented it at Norwich town hall....

Exactly Rowls, not seeing Burnley lift that trophy on the day took a shine of it for me. I wasn't able to make Burnley on a working day, I live too far away and therefore missed it altogether.

It stank at the time and has stunk every year since. If i remember correctly, weren't directors at Boro and Brighton in charge of the FL at the time?

I wouldn't want them to treat other fans as shoddily as they treated us.

It was a disgraceful decision against us but the Norwich fans have every right to see their side lift the trophy.

It's a shame the Football League did not afford us that respect.

Same for me.

Agreed again, I'm highlighting the inconsistency and fact that 2 people wanted to control things, resulting in thousands of Burnley fans and the team and management being denied the opportunity to lift the trophy at the end of the Charlton game.

Football should not evolve around egos, it should evolve around those fans who follow their team all over the country.

They should've set up the podium in front of the away support, a little bit of magic is lost when there's a couple of thousand empty seats behind and a few disinterested souls hanging about. When Burnley lifted the playoff trophy, they got it wrong too, THE moment of triumph as Caldwell raised the trophy in front of 30 odd thousand empty seats.

Congratulations on stank/stunk Barry. I'm sure that if Spades reads your post she'll agree. --- There is yet hope!

I agree - perhaps the FL realised they made a mistake with us.

You missed nothing. It was a real shambles on the day. An hour long karaoke from Ali Campbell singing Burnley tunes, yes, really. The highlight was the booing of the FL geezer who rocked up to present the trophy. The balls up with Joey not having a medal. It was truly an awful evening.

The papers were full of Tom waving a blow up trophy, I think that was more of an embarrassment for football league than for us.

They did, I'm fairly sure they said shortly afterwards that it wouldn't happen again.

Not presenting the Trophy at the Valley was and still is unforgivable!

It was a nasty and dodgy decision one that defied logic and has never been repeated since!

No-one likes us but to openly show it brought shame on the Football League! Glad we left them behind

And to top it off, we have a manager who has gone 23 23 undefeated, won the league, won most games, joint top scorers and conceded the least. So they give manager of the year to a bloke who finishes third and loses in the play offs.

There was some underlying reason that was used to justify this travesty of justice. Wasn't it supposed to be concern that Charlton fans would use the situation to draw attention to their plight at that time and cause problems? Never even likely to happen but even if it was the Cup should have been withheld for all possible winners not just Burnley. As it was it was taken up to Middlesbrough with the hope that it would be presented there.
A gross insult to our Club, not helped by the pathetic 'reasons' that they put forward to try and justify the insult. The only slight comfort is that it was a wasted journey taking it to Middlesbrough.

My missus just asked me what I was doing there... apparently the chap in the pink is me... or at least my doppelgänger. I remember that day well too, I was in London but not at the game - remember seeing celebrations from our fans all over afterwards

Has anybody who has seen “Mike Bassett, Football Manager” enjoyed the irony of the Norwich parade bus breaking down. One day Norwich will get a bus parade right.
