All three were outstanding for Burnley. Best wishes for a super move, to their next club.
Boyd was brilliant the other day. Properly back from his injury. Sheffield Wed must be mad!

Let's not forget Marc Pugh I know it was confirmed during the season but now it's been rubber stamped.
"Many supporters feel Pugh's capture ranks as one of the best pieces of business the club have ever carried out in the the transfer market".

I work with a Sheffield Wednesday fan. Boyd is not well liked at Hillsborough. Plenty of huff and puff but no end product apparently. They are glad to get shut of him

Re: ARTICLE: Ex-Clarets looking for new clubs
I, for one, would have George Boyd back here as a squad player on a one year deal all day long, risk free, no fee, and you know what you're getting ...
He'd probably want a club where he's playing regularly though, at this stage of his career ..

Sheff Wed are on a real cost cutting mission.
But I don't think either were regulars, thankfully we have moved on.

Think Wednesday are looking to cut the wage bill and easiest way to do that is to release players who are out of contractIanMcL wrote:All three were outstanding for Burnley. Best wishes for a super move, to their next club.

Re: ARTICLE: Ex-Clarets looking for new clubs
He’d just had a poor season before he left and probably knew he wouldn’t get much game time if he stayed. Not popular with Wednesday fans and I’d say he’s probably looking at Leagues 1 & 2 now.Clarets4me wrote:I, for one, would have George Boyd back here as a squad player on a one year deal all day long, risk free, no fee, and you know what you're getting ...

Wouldn't be surprised if Boyd ended up at a Charlton type league 1 side, or an ambitious Lincoln/MK Don's effort. Similarly i think Jones will end up with a Fleetwood or Blackpool type team keeping him up north.

I can remember some very good performances, which spurred others on.ClaretTony wrote:He’d just had a poor season before he left and probably knew he wouldn’t get much game time if he stayed. Not popular with Wednesday fans and I’d say he’s probably looking at Leagues 1 & 2 now.

Re: ARTICLE: Ex-Clarets looking for new clubs
I wonder if Jones will have made sure his contract didn’t expire until the end of July like he did with Wigan when he signed for us. Never heard of another player doing it before. Remember it seemed to drag on and on before it was officially confirmed he’d signed for us. As an out of contract player it makes sense to protect yourself for an extra month to be fair but end of June always seems to be the common expiry date.ClaretTony wrote:He’d just had a poor season before he left and probably knew he wouldn’t get much game time if he stayed. Peterborough fans hoping Boyd returns to the Posh.
Way below the standard we need.

Could see him finishing up at Peterborough. Had 5 or 6 good seasons there.MACCA wrote:Wouldn't be surprised if Boyd ended up at a Charlton type league 1 side, or an ambitious Lincoln/MK Don's effort. Similarly i think Jones will end up with a Fleetwood or Blackpool type team keeping him up north.

Both very good players for us.
However at their peak neither would get into our current side.

Add Danny Lafferty to the list; Sheff Utd understandably don't see him as Premier League standard.

Could see both Boyd and Jones at Fleetwood

They didn’t see him as Championship standard either.thatdberight wrote:Add Danny Lafferty to the list; Sheff Utd understandably don't see him as Premier League standard.

Contracts end at end of June but players are still paid to end of July. What happened with Jones was Burnley's doing that to ensure we didn't have to pay him during July.FeedTheArf wrote:I wonder if Jones will have made sure his contract didn’t expire until the end of July like he did with Wigan when he signed for us. Re: ARTICLE: Ex-Clarets looking for new clubs
I think Joey Barton would like Boyd and Jones at Fleetwood, league 1 or 2 looks best for them now, wages wouldn't be an issue they cant afford to be choosey now, they both could do a good job for the Cod Army, i think Boyd will end up back at Posh though.
Re: ARTICLE: Ex-Clarets looking for new clubs
When can we expect us to announce or retained/released list? I wonder if Ward will stick around.ClaretTony wrote:Contracts end at end of June but players are still paid to end of July. What happened with Jones was Burnley's doing that to ensure we didn't have to pay him during July.

Never knew that! Really pays to do your business later on then to minimise the overlap between expiring and incomingClaretTony wrote:Contracts end at end of June but players are still paid to end of July.
