Danny Baker sacked
Danny Baker sacked
Sacked from the BBC for tweeting a black and white picture of a well heeled couple with a small chimpanzee in a suit and saying it was the royal baby announcement.

I've not seen the tweet but it does sound like the sort that would make it easy for them to take offence and sack someone.
Surprisingly, the PC Brigade must still be in bed, as I've not seen any of them reply to his recent tweets. I must have missed them, or Twitter decided to push them down the order.

The **** that Megan gets online from the right wing trolls is absolutely bang out of order, and reporting about her from the Mail (in particular) is appalling, and its 100% focused on her race. So the national broadcaster can't let stuff like this slide, because there are people out there who would like and retweet it because they agree with the vision being portrayed (not the way Baker meant it I'm sure)
Danny Baker knows enough to know how that tweet would be interpreted and this is the (sadly) inevitable consequence.

Not a big fan of the BBC PC agenda but they are absolutely right on this one. Idiotic tweet and he’s paid enough to quote above ‘engage his brain’. No sympathy.

Re: Danny Baker sacked
How on earth does an educated broadcaster think this will be seen in any other way as to what it has been?
He can attempt to dress it up however he likes, the connotations are they for everyone to see.
He's an arse, and he's failed spectacularly in both his tweet, and his explanation of it. So much so, he even wants to blame someone else for his mistake!
Hennessey's salute anyone?
Been sacked, and rightly so. Two-hat.

His old fans phone in was funny but that was 20 years plus ago. Since then he’s just tried really hard to come across as ‘controversial’ all the time but just ends up making himself look a tool.
Re: Danny Baker sacked
Has he explained what he meant by the tweet, if it wasnt supposed to be taken as racist?

Can’t stand the bloke - never liked him and like him even less after this.
What was he thinking posting this ?
That someone would not spot it and turn it a big story about race ? Whether he meant it or not he has been sacked for either racism or just been a dumb ignorant t-wat.....both are justifiable reasons.
He’s also way too arrogant and up his own arse to apologise for any offence he caused - intentional or not.

Baby dressed in posh clothes no more than performing chimp. I think. Can't see the humour to be honest. I don't think Baker has any history of controversial, racist behaviour. That's only a plausible defence if he's got a history of referring to previous royal babies in a similar way. I don't know if he has or hasn't, but if he has then it's a fairly easy defence to make.
But if he hasn't then it's more than a little coincidental that the first time he uses it is when the royal baby is mixed race.
Re: Danny Baker sacked
This pic can be interpreted in more than one way, of course, and Danny Baker will know that.
Methinks his old mate Chris Evans has been in touch and DB will surface at Virgin, and take yet more BBC Radio listeners away.
Pre-move publicity stunt I suspect.

Re: Danny Baker sacked
People (rightfully) condemn certain east european countries football fans for making monkey chants and gestures at our black and mixed race footballers...
Danny "Arse" Baker tweets a picture of a chimp and headlines it "Royal Baby leaves hospital" when the mother of the recent Royal Baby is of Mixed Race and some of same "outraged" people condone it...
Talk about double standards .........
He has rightfully been removed ..... He knew exactly what the reaction would be and has paid the price....
I will not miss the "smug fat little runt" good riddance.

He’s actually an excellent hugely experienced broadcaster and nothing if not original so hugely silly to post this in the age of uber sensitivity .No doubt DB was just having a giggle but one can only imagine the spluttering rage when the BBC thought “ monkey /black person “ etc etc . I’d imagine literally dozens of BBC HR types literally sh1t and p1ssed themselves simultaneously at the sheer shock and excitement .Though in all fairness he’d have been dismissed from pretty much anywhere

It's not. I know some people like to comment on everything, repeating their already well-rehearsed positions until everybody wishes they'd go away and not resurface. There are people like that. But a failure to comment before doesn't mean only one inference can be drawn. Maybe he is racist. Maybe he'd only seen that picture recently and thought it apt. Maybe he's made other scathing comments before. Maybe he's only become interested in royal matters recently. All sorts of possibilities.Test User wrote:That's only a plausible defence if he's got a history of referring to previous royal babies in a similar way.

The BBC care more about anti black racism than they do about children being systematically abused by their employees and cohorts.

It's a shame you didn't understand my post. I've no doubt he commented on previous royal births. My point was that he while commenting on those births he never once referred to the kid as a "performing chimp" or anything similar, then his defence has less credibility since the first time he invoked the "performing chimp" reference was when there was a mixed race royal baby.
Re: Danny Baker sacked
I like Baker and his shows.
Can't help feeling this was deliberate to see how the ultra PC BBC will react. Baker is one of the country's most experienced broadcasters and a highly intelligent and articulate man. He must have realised that even if the "posh baby / circus chimp" analogy was his intent (and it surely was), the wet blankets at the Beeb and the social media hordes would react as they have. I too wouldn't be surprised if he was leaving for Virgin and finding a way of getting out of his BBC contract etc.
That said, a dangerous game if so as he may well have completely trashed his reputation and forever be regarded as "that racist Danny Baker "
Which he is not.
Strange.
Is it ok for me to say the chimp in the picture has a passing resemblance to Prince Philip?

Won so many awards for broadcasting and the best the BBC can do is find him a 2 hour slot on a Saturday morning.
Yes he’s a bit anarchic - but that’s what the listeners want - check who wins the awards for broadcasting
