Where do you get this analysis? Other Armenian sportspeople have travelled to Azerbaijan in the past. While I don't expect everything would be in the open, Arsenal just seem to be asking for guarantees in a rather undefined way.

Yes, there is huge animosity over Artsakh but, personally, I think Mkhitaryan doesn't want to play in Baku for personal/political/commercial reasons and a failure to get some woolly security requirement agreed would allow him to drop out.

Let's not forget the last bomb attack on a Champions' League team took place in Dortmund. What guarantee can UEFA give that someone won't do something, anywhere?

either way lads, IF it has come from the foreign office as quoted then there's nothing to be smug about

The foreign office advice will relate to a different part of the country so it seems part of press is sensationlising.

It hasn't specifically come from the FCO - it's their standing advice for that country. I'd have The Mirror in the same category as the other less than august organs reporting this.

Among the countries with a higher risk level than Azerbaijan according to the same source ("very likely" rather than "likely");
Belgium
France
Germany
...and the USA

yeah and I take all news with the pinch of salt it deserves, but I'm still going to report it cause it's out there.

End of the day it's a ******* dumb choice for a final for reasons I stated earlier in the thread.

I’d agree with that. I’m not sure Baku would be my first choice but I wouldn’t want it played in England by choice.

I'm surprised Doha in Qatar has never been awarded the final before.

For all the talk of unsuitable venues, those countries in the Middle East should never get any football tournament.
