ICE initials on mobiles
ICE initials on mobiles
I may be in the majority of one but I learnt last night what the initials ICE stand for on mobile phones. Most of those at the meeting were , like me, ignorant of it so perhaps some on here might not be aware they stand for 'In Case of Emergency.' Evidently it allows for a phone to be used to record all details of its user , including any medicines etc, so that In Case of Emergency where the user cannot be spoken to, say after an accident that renders them unconscious, then the emergency services can access the owners phones under ICE and get important details about them to help in their treatments and ID.

My Dad was a fireofficer and told me about this many years back. I use it for contacts so ppl would know who to contact first.

If you have an iPhone - the health app allows you to enter your medical data and your emergency contacts in there too.
Just click the health app
- Medical ID
-Edit
And pop in your details.

Also on an iPhone that many people do not know - if you hold down the volume button and the side button and keep holding them down. A countdown will begin and it will call emergency services in SOS mode.
Your location details are sent to the emergency services via your phone too if you call them this way. Hopefully nobody ever has to use it but if you’re ever stuck in a situation you might need it then it could save your life.
If you have an older IPhone then you just repeatedly click the side button and the same thing happens.
If you set your medical ID via the health app as shown in last post then emergency services can acces those details by pressing the button 5 times quickly too.

On iPhone, when the phone is locked and you press the “home” button so you get the unlock keypad, there is an “Emergency” option in bottom left.Awayfromburnley wrote:If your phone is locked how do they access your contacts?
This brings opens up the the option to dial 999 but also “medical ID” where emergency details such as medication & phone numbers can be stored

On Android it's under "Security & Location > Lock Screen Preferences" From there you can add an appropriate message to displayAwayfromburnley wrote:If your phone is locked how do they access your contacts?
Re: ICE initials on mobiles
As it was explained to me the 'unlocking' was automatic for ICE alone if ICE was accessed. I have not confirmed if this is the case.
