Just looking for a bit of advice or input..

I have this problem at the moment.. it’s probably the the most painful health issue that I have ever had.

I have been the doctor’s and she gave me some antibiotics
- MacroBID (Nitrofurantoin) which is the global treatment drug for this one. She gave me 10 capsules (take two a day).. I have taken 5 of them, and they haven’t touched it, not one bit.

I have been drinking plenty of water, and some cranberry juice but no respite. I have been going for a pee about 5 times per two hours, for the last three days. I can barely leave my home, and I had to miss the match today.

Anybody with experience of this, can offer some useful input..?

Could be an STD.

If you haven't already take iprobrufen and paracetamol in regular intervals the irritation makes the pain worse and compounds the issue, get to the sea in the morning if it's not got any better

2. A UTI is not an STD.

I had a UTI not so long ago and the antibiotics didn't really kick in until the end of the course. There's really not alot else you can do until they start to work. I think I was advised not to take ibuprofen but can't be sure. Hot water bottle on you stomach/back may help a little.

Cranberry juice is a but of an old wives tale.

If things don't clear up after a few days book a telephone consultation with the GP.

The best thing you can do, and it may seem currently the last thing you fancy doing, is to drink plenty. You need to flush it out.

I'm well aware of that smart arse. But it might not be an infection. You mentioned absolutely nothing in your opening post about having any tests/checks to confirm it was definitely a UTI.

You need to give it a little longer for the antibiotics to take effect.

Ha frank must have posted at the same time as me ! I went through a spell of utis several years ago this went on for months and had the camera which didn't find the cause eventually they game me long term anti biotics which I took for around 6 months this sorted it . I still get the symptoms that it is going to start again but I just drink water and take ibuprofen and it goes away . Check your gp sent your sample off for analysis and not just guessed which tablets you need which they do frequently . Take the ibuprofen with plenty of water and get to the quacks first thing

Unfortunately I have one at the moment.
Just finished the antibiotics and as you say the one you are taking is the specific one at the moment.
It goes into the blood but also is excreted into the urine where it has another "go" at the infection. It may be you need a further dose of pills but a uti has a habit of taking a couple of weeks to get over.
One thing is not to ignore it as it can turn to sepsis really quickly.
Take the pills, drink fluids and take as much pain relief as you are allowed, try ibuprofen and two hours later paracetamol and keep taking as long as you need.
It is a horrible condition and as you say your life is on hold.

Hampstead I hope your doctor took a urine sample and sent it for analysis to see what bacteria is causing the problem.
That after 5 days of nirtofurantoin you are still peeing broken glass suggests it is a bug resistant to nitrofurantoin and the result of an MSU (urine test in the lab) would now be ready with a)what was grown and b)what antibiotic would be effective OR you don't have a UTI.
Best have a revisit to your GP and get your bladder and undercarrriage checked out as you are at that man's age I think

The infection will clear up obviously. I ended up at the urgent care centre in middle of the night due to the extreme pain and ended up with a rectal painkiller, not nice. So speaking from experience you need to get on top of the pain, for this you will obviously need painkillers to be prescribed by a doctor, co-codamol 30mg/500mg tablets worked well for me.

Once it's cleared up, you will probably be referred to urology for investigation,which involves a camera looking inside your bladder. Good luck with that

A urine sample was taken late Thursday, and not much happens over the weekend... that has not come back yet.
I will be in Surgery first thing in the morning.

It takes about 7 to 10 days to clear up.

Juniper essential oil.
A drop in a small glass of water.
3 times a day.

Had one a few years back passing blood etc, very painful but not nearly as bad as the camera they insert to look at your bladder. Horrendous!
