Hopefully nailed on for relegation next season, who on earth do they think they'll get who's any better.

Strange decision.

Good manager is Hughton. Better than they deserve anyway.

They spent a lot of money but seem to have done worse than the previous season. Some players take longer to settle in than others, he must not have been able to convince the board with his plan going forward.
He'll get another job no problem, but I wonder who they'll replace him with?

Used to like Houghton but went off him a bit following his comments after the Bong booing fiasco at The Turf.

Also wasn't happy when he got the manager of the season award for finishing 3rd (not his choice, I know, but it still irks a bit that he got it rather than the manager whose team went 23 undefeated and won the league)

Daft decision. They stayed up and got beat by man city in the semi final of the fa cup. Despite a terrible run it's not an awful season all in all. With a decent striker and a regroup they'd have been fine.

Chantelle. She's some kind of minor celeb who apparently reached the heights of Big Brother. She'll be no great loss at Brighton, though better looking than Duffy.

As per my post further up the thread, the relationship between manager and players has, according to speculation, soured because of Hughton's over negative tactics. I would think it has come to the end of the line.

Could Eddie Howe be lured to that post ?

Already have the infrastructure in place that will take years to build at AFCB.

Don’t know who that picture is or what it has to do with Hughton being sacked. Good manager and done well for them. One if the local journos thinks they are in for Rafa. Delusions of Grandeur.

I remember reading that Brighton forum a few weeks ago, some fans were not happy with him as he played negative football apparently. Maybe the club feel it's time for them to upgrade and take it to the next level. Bit of a risk though.

I think they should play a much more open, flowing and attacking game with more flair players - and concede 4 or 5 goals every week.

This is a watershed moment for the Club. The next appointment is vital. So much needs doing, Team-wise at Brighton. This is a big gamble for them; more so if, as CT alludes, Player Power has got him the boot. That’s a dangerous environment for any new Manager.

Shouldn't be surprised by anything in football but I find this decision quite staggering. Don't buy into this rumoured negativity around him. He's been a top manager wherever he's been. Brighton first and foremost objective this season was to stay in the PL, end of. Hope they start playing tiki-taka football and see where they end up.

Not so much player power getting him the boot but from what I heard the players wanted to at least give it a go in some games. They've been very negative in both their Premier League games at Burnley, let alone against the top six.

The Brighton job needs to be a mouth-watering prospect to interested parties with a long term contract, money to spend and ambition. I don't think they are looking for someone to keep them up or ride the crest of the wave, they want someone who has been there and done it. If this appointment goes wrong though... it could be the beginning of the end.

good decision to get rid, clearly wasnt working , just 2 points off the drop zone.

might well be a nice bloke but for the club at this time it had to be this way. I do hope they continue to struggle though and hopefully get relegated next season.

I think that Hughton has done a good job at Brighton over his whole period there but this could well be the correct decision from them.

How often do you see the form in the latter stages of one season flow into the next? Relatively often I would say.
If you look at Southampton at the end of the previous season under Hughes they only won 2 out of the last 12 games. That form continued into this season and sacking him saved them for sure in my eyes. I think that Brighton might be worried about the same pattern for next year.

FA Cup semi and prem survival not good enough!

Mind you, he was visibly feeling the pressure, towards the end. Very defensively set up, to achieve a point, even at home.

I see the BBC article hints to the future:
BBC Sussex commentator Johnny Cantor

It doesn't come as a total surprise. Do Brighton want to stay in this position next season? Tony Bloom has decided they've got to go down another route.

Manager takes small club to top level, keeps them there for a couple of seasons, then grumbles start to surface about the style of football. Usually doesn’t end well - just ask Blackburn and Bolton fans.

Whichever way you look at it, if your assertion is correct, Players opinions were canvassed from above Hughton, and the Players didn’t back their Manager. That’s Player Power.

Interesting situation - the club could have continued as they were and under Hughton would likely be involved in a relegation battle for as long as they stayed in the Prem - not bad for a club like theirs.

Or they could get someone new - like Southampton did when they got rid of Adkins, worked out alright for them but there are many examples of other clubs where sacking their manager did not pay dividends.

Personally I think that if he has lost the trust of the players it is understandable that he had to go.

This could be one of those decisions that most outside of Brighton are amazed at but actually a lot of Brighton fans may think a change is warranted. In all fairness, 3 wins in 23 games in pretty poor - especially after such a good start to the season. They have only been saved due to how poor Cardiff were.

Or the owner has heard the speculation without canvassing them, but I do think the players have played a part in this decision.
