Absolutely brilliant to see a different side to him, stood on the crush barriers in the away end celebrating his team's win.

Like you said showed a lot of passion for Tranmere. Respect

I agree WMC, just think they'll have a bit too much for Newport. I like Micky Mellon, so I hope they get the win in their big day out.

Shouldnt be allowed. A professional referee like that. He could easily influence games for or against his club or their rivals. Especially certain other northwest clubs.

What shouldn’t a ref being a football fan?

It’s all about him, even when he’s not on the pitch reffing!

I celebrated like him away at Reading...... I suppose that was all about me as well?

Normal human, supports a football team, celebrates when they win a massive game. It’s no more complicated than that.

I disagree, he’s high profile, he will have known that the cameras would pick him out. He was the only one stood on the barrier!!

Of course he knew he’d be picked out by the cameras.
Massive ego he’s got Dean - almost as big as T-wattenburg had.
Anyway as much as I dislike him we always need to be grateful to him for not giving 2 stonewall penalties to Sheff United in the play off final !

Very funny and it’s good to see a ref ‘off duty’, but he knows exactly what he’s doing - he absolutely craves the limelight, that much is obvious.

That's absolutely bang on Dan - no different to anyone else in that away end last night and no different to any of us at Reading ten years ago.

I was just wondering though if he'd have joined in the chant of "You're not fit to referee" had Ilderton given a dodgy pen against Tranmere. :D

No different to anybody else in the away end? Are you blind? He’s the only one stood on the barrier! I’ve certainly no problem with him celebrating his teams success but to claim that he wasn’t doing it for the limelight is ridiculous. He knew exactly what he was doing and the attention that he would receive for doing so.

Edit - my apologies, the young lad behind him is just starting to copy him.

Unless the 20-30 people in that picture constitutes the whole Tranmere away following I’m not sure what you basing your statement on.

Do you agree that, in that picture he sticks out like a sore c0ck? He knew exactly what he was doing, it’s all about his ego!

Never mind, forget it....

Well of course he does, the photographer has trained his camera on him. Whether he sticks out in a wider picture I don’t know.

But that’s my point Martin, Dean KNEW that the cameras would be trained on him and that’s why he did it. As I’ve said before, I’ve no problem with him celebrating his teams success, in my opinion he’s doing it in a way that he knows will attract media attention. Every football fan knows how much he loves attention!!

Yep he definitely went all the way to Forest Green for a midweek League 2 playoff (knowing the cameras are situated the same side as he would be stood) just for some camera time.

Who’s said anything about him going to the game for that purpose? Sorry, I forgot, when televising a live game they only use one camera, my mistake.

So would I, he’s probably the best ref that we have at the minute, along with Atkinson.

So the guy behind him (in a small photo of the away end) who is about to do the same, I take it he is doing it to get on the camera as he knows that is why Dean is doing it or is he doing it because he is a fan enjoying himself ?

Tbh he’s probably doing it because Dean has, anyway, let’s agree to disagree.

He is only doing what any fan does....

Why shouldn't he celebrate when his team win....

The FA and Premier League would not allow him to be involved in any match that influenced his team... just as a judge would not be allowed to officiate a trial (a judge has to declare, as does any juror if they have any interest in proceedings they are involved with) he/she has any interest in.

Mike Dean is one of our best at the moment... I have no problem with him celebrating at all.

Brilliant, love to see folk who are entrenched in the game show the seldom seen side. I found out last night that Mike Dean has Tranmere Rovers flowing through his blood, good on him, I can empathise with such passion.

Like a lot of refs he obviously craves attention. Jumping up and down and going mad to celebrate is one thing, climbing on a barrier when you’re one of the country’s leading refs is quite another. He’s 50 years old for Christ’s sake!

always has a lot to say to the opposition players whoever we play but wont talk to our players. how the assessors have never stopped him over the years is beyond me.

his attitude has kept him out of world cups

I agree, Electro, with your assessment of Moss and Friend. I'm looking forward to seeing how Jarred Gillett (the Aussie ref) gets along in the Championship next season. Could be in the Premier League quicker than expected.
