McNeil - Euro U21 Championships?

Post by RVclaret » Tue May 14, 2019 12:03 pm

Not saying he will be called up but surely in with a shout after the half season he’s had.

The question is, would you rather see him get the recognition he deserves and be called up? Or rather have the summer off, recharge the batteries and get a full/proper pre season under his belt to improve his fitness for next season?

Don’t want him anywhere else other than the Burnley training ground.

summer off and he needs a gruelling pre-season, his lack of fitness was surprising at times

It is not fitness it is strength he is lacking - he still has to mature physically and it will come - he had pre-season with the first team last year and trained with them all season

for example, the Everton game he came on late in the game and was struggling to close down and was blowing hard within a few minutes. Not having a pop at him, as CP said it's down to maturity but it's something I hope the club can help him with this pre-season - he's fitter than me

U20s are playing a few games in June as well. Suspect he’ll be called up to one of the squads.

I'd say it's also experience. Older players will know better where to snatch a bit of a breather, when they don't have to go full pelt, etc

Agree with the aggi on this. He's probably just as fit as our other players. Young players always need to learn a bit of game management and that's all I think it is.

Stamina, perhaps rather than fitness. stamina comes with age (well until you get to my age :D )
I hope he gets called up. A reward for his excellent performances and acknowledgement to our club and coaching staff.

He will get physically stronger and this will make a huge difference, trying to out muscle people that are stronger than you, really takes you energy.

His gait is languid. However, in one run down the wing, on Sunday, he left their man yards behind and he was the one controlling the ball!

Shortly after an attack, he was the one making the tackle, which stopped a cross from close range and went for a corner.

He is fit, for sure. He just gives it all, earlier than some!

I think he is just one of those people who just look knackered after only a little exercise. They may not be feeling it and still have plenty in the tank but their gait and posture appears to say they are done for.

I, whilst not claiming to have ever been (let alone still be) anywhere remotely near the fitness of any professional player, always look hot, tired and finished after just a few minutes of a game (even walking football) without feeling at all worn out. Never needed to be subbed for fitness - just playing crap
