Well one of them was actually a goal at Watford...that’s for a start.

Very easy to knock someone because of stats like that...

Toss up between who was more infuriating, Andre Gray or Wood.

Only Burnley fans could complain so much about two of the best goalscorers we've had in the Premier League.

i understood Barnes was our best goal scorer in the premier league.

Ignoring that though, isnt it a concern to you? Sunday was Wood at his peak in terms of being off side, other teams must be drilled on the fact he can't play the line. Ignoring the other point that he needs 6 clear cut chances to get score 1.

We were only wondering on Sunday what the statistics were for Wood and offsides, and now we know.

i thought they wouldn't be too good, but blimey, that is pretty poor reading imo.

Wood’s our best finisher and Barnes is our best overall striker and they complement each other well. The way we play with 2 up top will inevitably lead to more offsides than other sides of similar stature that play one up or the top sides that have more pace.

Luckily for us he has scored the same number of goals as Leroy Sane and Wilfred Zaha so let’s knock him for that. I’d be happy for him to have 100 offsides next season if he continues to score 1 in 5.

Would be interested to know what percentage of Chris Wood's goals were scored from within the 6 yard box. And he's lethal from 2 yards (usually).

Barnes has played nearly twice as many games in the Premier League than Wood has and over 100 more than Gray had for us.

Goals per game for Burnley in the PL.

Wood - 0.32
Gray - 0.28
Barnes - 0.24

Lets be honest, he's offside more than he should be - however as one of his biggest critics earlier in the season I've learnt to appreciate that's part of his game - balls over the top for him to get in behind onto are part of our system. I think he's doing a good job and does have that yard of pace on the likes of Vokes.

good goal return from Wood this season.

Some of those offsides are when all the team wasn’t at the races

The second half of the season is what we will build on and hopefully less of this scapegoating

I really don’t understand the stick that Wood gets. Yes, he’s offside too often, although that can also be blamed on the timing of deliveries to him. He also holds the ball up well and has a very good strike rate at the top level. I’m not sure what some people expect.

The trouble is people still think of £15M as being a LOT of money. You get what you pay for but you also get a player who is prepared to follow the team instructions to play just offside behind the defender's shoulder. Barnes does this too but he tends to make his runs across the defenders whereas Wood is often chasing the ball over the top or that is played into the channels where he is trying to get behind the defence making him an easy target for flag happy linesmen

Well, I've seen him caught offside several times where the ball should have been played earlier... Guess he's doing well to be bagging 1 in 3 in the PL for such an immobile guy.

Hes caught off side to many times off side he should be learning how to run the line by now
He gets bullied far to much by defenders for a big lad
His pace is mediocre and looks like he gives up the ghost to chase things down cos he can't
Needs 5 or 6 chances to put a ball away even one on ones is a lottery
A premier league player as to put 80 % of one on ones away
Not as bad as Benteke's ratio but Gray would have put most his misses in the onion bag
Yes hes got a good return that ypu can't deny but the work that others do like Barnes Westwood McNeil Taylor I should think so they are quality and serve him well
Jury will be out next season if hes our main striker

15 more offsides over a 38 game season than the chasing pack.
It's truly staggering the lengths some people will go to just to have ANOTHER go at their favourite scapegoat.

Not really that surprised. Gray was offside all of the time too - both players try to make runs in behind. Our build up play is often either quite laboured and delayed or it’s rushed. Not saying that Wood isn’t guilty of being caught too often, but like many others have stated he also falls victim to poor build up play.

3 days from the season ending and we've already managed to bash 2 of our forwards.

Having scored 10 in the league this season, we must create loads of chances every game if he has missed 50 or 60 chances by himself.

Its not a case of going through the entirety of our team has there as been some excellent performance from some of our individual players
And many positives to take out of a dodgy season
Supporters are just pointing out our weaker points you after address them if you need to move forward
That was a big part why this season panned out like it did
We are one of the best sticking crowd in the country
And Dyche as already said as much we back the weak and praise the good
But if their is a few issues that need resolving then talk thats why a lot of relationships breakdown its an art you know

I choose to see that stat as a huge positive. It highlights a development goal that can be met and if Chris does that he will improve on what is already a very good return.

The golden flag comment was funny though

Filippo Inzaghi used to get caught offside loads of times every match I ever saw him in - but then would typically score the few times he was played on. If we win 1-0 with a Wood goal but he is offside 4 times in the same match, does it matter?

It doesn't matter and i get what your saying but 1-0 is as unsafe as out in this league
We are fragile as it is
How many goals did we concede late in games
When we had done all the hard work for 90% of the game only for it to be undone
We as a team need to be put them soft misses away as there's to many other soft areas of our small side and thats not having a go either we are what we are

So you can confirm the other 52 were actually offside rather than given as offside? The only one I have highlighted was clearly wrong because it was in injury time and affected the result.

Given the standard of assistant decisions I suspect at least another 10% or more were incorrect decisions.

Dyche need to be more clear with his instructions next season and tell Chris that for the purposes of his instruction to play on the shoulder of the last defender, the goalkeeper doesn't count as a defender.

By the way, I have no issue with Chris Wood.

The coaches should be able help with the offside.

If any offside is a cause for grief, it is where the striker stands offside, to put off defenders, remains offside and then causes the move to end, when they move for the ball.

Honestly do not under the stick he gets. He’s certainly not immobile, and certainly not weak, he’s actually a very well rounded physical striker. He’s even been described as a beast by some opposition fans. He’s scored at a better rate than any of our other premier league strikers, and he definitely doesn’t score 1 in 6, it’s a lot higher than that - he’s a good finisher, the best we’ve had in the prem other than ings. If he gets a full season in next year, he could get 15 goals, and that would really make him valuable. He’s probably already worth £20 million+
