Global audience doesn’t mean Global Support. I bet we don’t even sell 10,000 shirts annually

We sold close to 30,000 in 2017/18, and it’s usually around 10,000 when we’re in the Championship.claptrappers_union wrote:Global audience doesn’t mean Global Support. I bet we don’t even sell 10,000 shirts annually

And yet the total Retail sales for '17/'18 was a mere £1.9m. Surely there must be scope to improve on that figure as a PL club with a little outside of the box thinking. Why are we so against selling our merchandise outside the confines of the club shop?Claretforever wrote:We sold close to 30,000 in 2017/18, and it’s usually around 10,000 when we’re in the Championship.

I know. You’d imagine most of the sales were for replica kits, and that will include children’s kits and cheap ones towards the end of the season. The figure I was told for 17/18 was 32,000, and was the best in the club’s history, with normal Prem sales being around 25,000. 10-15,000 is the normal Championship figure apparently, depending what sort of season we’re having.Royboyclaret wrote:And yet the total Retail sales for '17/'18 was a mere £1.9m. Watford was less than ours but Palace was £3.1m. I just don't understand why we restrict our sales to the club shop. Perhaps someone can offer an explanation? Global exposure of our football and yet one outlet only for our merchandise.JohnDearyMe wrote:Interesting. How do we fare on this front compared to teams like Watford & Palace?

Thanks, interesting to see. Yes, I would have thought that JD Sports and the like would want to have the tops of all the top flight teams for sale. Maybe not?Royboyclaret wrote:Watford was less than ours but Palace was £3.1m. I just don't understand why we restrict our sales to the club shop. Perhaps someone can offer an explanation? Re: New home kit
CT has corrected but im fairly sure I read quite a while ago that if you sell your replica a kit in the high street you are then governed to only releasing a new strip every 2 years. If you dont and you do your own marketing there are no such restrictions and hence we change our tops every year.Royboyclaret wrote:Watford was less than ours but Palace was £3.1m. Good to see the club getting the best deal they can.
Love the idea of Rolls Royce becoming sponsors, because they're like Burnley. When I think Rolls Royce, I instantly think of a working class, gritty town... and who wouldn't

I’m pretty sure every club changes their strip every season nowadays. Certainly United have just released a new kit, having released a new one last summer.ClaretAL wrote:CT has corrected but im fairly sure I read quite a while ago that if you sell your replica a kit in the high street you are then governed to only releasing a new strip every 2 years. In all seriousness though, this latest deal can only represent say £5m within an overall Commercial activity of £7.5m, or less than 5% of Total Income. Do we really want the business of Love Bet, on that basis.
Incidentally, any news of Wilde Blue Yonder?

Re: New home kit
Suppose if they're offering £5m, and everybody else is offering £2m for the exact same space, then I suspect you'd take it. That's probably one years salary for a top earner at a guess.
Wilde Blue Yonder is off on his holidays. He ran ok at Haydock last weekend, but the ground was a bit lively for him, so he'll have a break and join Hotter Than Hell and Big Chief Benny on their holidays, and Mahlermade will be kept going for a little while longer, but probably just 1 or 2 more runs before he goes for a break too.

I take your point, but Oak Furniture Land were close on £3m a number of seasons ago. If all we're looking at is an additional £1.5m or so then a more suitable name might be appropriate?
Just can't see Jimmy Mc ever running out with Love Bet emblazoned on his shirt, or Bob Lord even allowing it to happen.

Ah I get you, but every decision in football today is commercially led isn't it? And maximising revenue is the name of the game. The big bucks, realistically, only roll in for a while for a club like Burnley, and then life at a championship level can be expensive and testing. I get why they do it, and personally I've never been influenced by sponsors. I never bought a computer from P3, I've never bought insurance from Endsleigh, I never Multiparted for a new exhaust, I haven't ever bought a kitchen or Oil (was that what Cooke's were), I've never bet with Laba bet, Lovebet or Fun88 - and can't remember any more sponsors.

Indeed it is, as evidenced by City's "Choose Etihad" special shirts today when the FA Cup is sponsored by Emirates.dandeclaret wrote:Ah I get you, but every decision in football today is commercially led isn't it? But I guess I always thought that Burnley's principles would not allow us to join in the madness particularly when we're looking at such a small % of Total Turnover, around 4% tops.

Re: New home kit
I think the club have kept to their principles pretty well. The players and manager appear to be more accessible to the local community than local other clubs. They've kept ticket prices at a reasonable rate to allow supporters to be able to go, and they've kept a decent business model progressing forward to keep the club in place for a good while. That said, they are in an industry that is a rich man's playground, and if you're already behind those rich men, taking overly principled stands on marginal issues, such as shirt sponsors, is only going to push you further away from competing with them. It's an industry where money is king, and everybody is all about the money. Personally it's now only 3rd or 4th choice in pick of sports to watch on TV, and I haven't been to a competitive gamy anywhere for years. Gambling sites on shirts is way down the list of concerns for me personally - and none of the major things that I don't like will be fixed, so I don't participate in it any more.

Some of you lads are going to go into melt down when you see the third kit ...
As regards third kits we've had three at several times since the early 70s but I think the first time you could actually BUY official replicas of all three would be during the 82-83 season when Spall launched the White third shirt in time for Christmas .. nice shirt.

Re: New home kit
Let's all agree that:
1. Nobody likes having this 'genre' of sponsor for multiiple reasons, mainly the fact they don't have a British base (even customer base) and they represent gambling which is an increasing problem in sports generally and football specifically.
2. It is impacting our decisions to buy the shirt
3. Commercially, those decisions don't impact the club at all.
4. We've never sold more shirts than we have in the last couple of seasons.

Re: New home kit
If we sell shirts, training kit, etc outside of the club shop we effectively receive nothing (in reality there may be a minimal uplift in that we're adding additional channels of distribution to the deal) whilst at the same time cannibalising the profits we make from club shop sales.Royboyclaret wrote:And yet the total Retail sales for '17/'18 was a mere £1.9m. Plenty of other clubs take the same route.

I’m the same. Can’t think of a single BFC shirt sponsor that has received a penny off me.

The material I agree wasn’t the best, a weird polyester stuff, still that could be rectified at the design stage and what is agreed as a commercial decision from the club.

Adidas were disappointing overall, but the yellow and claret away kit with the vertical stripes coming down from the shoulder was nice though.

The home shirt with the stripes across the chest was ok too but the kit would’ve been better with white shorts

The shipping isn't free or reduced though. Its paid for by both Prime subs and already baked in the price of the product.ZizkovClaret wrote:Sure, but current shipping costs are higher than offered by amazon iirc so could end up not being much difference
If you want your product to be 'Fulfilled by Amazon' you have to pay extra and have plenty of stock in their warehouses ready to go, for this privilege you pay for every cubic foot of space your stock uses.
If you want to ship yourself you still pay the 15% just for the privilege of being on the Amazon platform. A lot of people sell their product on Amazon because it's where the shoppers are and they need to be discovered.
Burnley FC doesn't have that problem with it's fanbase. If it were really a viable option we'd already see other teams doing it.

Re: New home kit
Anything half and half reminds me of that lot down the road, and I don’t think it would sell.
The material quality used last season was the highest quality we could get, and so the club took an initial hit on margins because of it. I’d imagine sales were up though due to the better look and feel. Some of those kits from the 90’s and 00’s were horribly cheap, and I barely bothered buying them.

I doubt whether it would be halves. When we had that shirt I said to Frank Teasdale that I didn't think it appropriate for Burnley to play in halves given that Blackburn wore them.
