I remember the 500 miles campaign etc .... but there was a reason that the buckets got filled, and it wasn’t an asian betting company dropping £ coins into it.
How some people feel. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest and I’m not alone in that view.

All these people saying they don't care where the money comes from, where do we draw the line? If some cowboys like Venkys turn up offering millions to invest in the club should we just take it no questions asked? Greed is a very slippery slope.

There’s a bit of a difference in owning a club and simply sponsoring a shirt.

The annual strip moan has come early. ‘Oh I dont like it with collars.... the badge is too high so that’s ruled me out ...it’s the wrong shade of claret....there’s not enough blue on it.... it won’t look right with my socks and shorts when shopping at Asda’ Has there ever been a time when most fans have been satisfied ? At least we don’t have to bother with the shirt teaser showing a small section of fabric. Just show it all or don’t.

But my point is that the attitude of let's make as money as possible and we don't care where it comes from is a slippery slope. Once you start to abandon your principles/morals it's hard to get them back.

Yes, I've not said anything to the contrary.

But on a second note, though. I can see legislation coming in the next few years or so that will place restrictions on gambling sponsorship in sport and same goes for TV commercials.

The club are absolutely right when they say it's all about the money

You could have worked out their stance just by looking at the price tag of the shirts

I couldn't care less if it's a betting company or the Coop, who sponsor out shirts, as long as it's more money in our till. The more income, the better.

Wouldn't it look a nice shirt if it just had the Umbro logo and the Club Crest rather than the other appalling garbage. The trouble is the garbage brings in the money.

It’s not for this country. You’re forgetting that Burnley are now an INTERNATIONAL brand. We have an international sponsor that appeals to the biggest gambling market in the world in China. They’re not hoping you open an account they’re counting on your Chinese fan who’s tuning in.

Burnley need international exposure to be successful, this is one of those building blocks.

Get rid of the whole bloody lot. We’re subjected to so much from Ladbrokes, both online and inside the ground (stand name, betting booths, rolling digital ads, fixed ads) and what we get from that company as an annual flat-fee is bloody peanuts. Literally peanuts!

If only we could show the same class as Luton, albeit at a higher level...

If it wasn’t worth the money they wouldn’t be paying it. Given that Asian betting companies keep throwing money at Premier League shirt sponsorship I’d guess they’re getting their money’s worth.

I’m not going to say, I don’t think it’s my place to be banding around figures. It’s not many Michael Duff’s, that’s for sure! It’s an absolutely pitiful figure when you consider what we currently generate annually.

Presumably more walnuts than the peanuts offered from elsewhere though, JD.

The volume of betting advertising is ridiculous but whilst they are the main payers to the ‘second league’ in the Premier League and below, it’s an evil that we, like many others, have to follow.

I can see the frustration in relation to the mixed messages portrayed (community post one minute, betting the next) but I’m not convinced this stops us being a community club.

Gambling advertising will ultimately disappear but in the meantime it’s a cash cow, for a club doing its level best in an already un-level playing field.

Other than when we play the top six the amount of people watching Burnley in China is, I reckon, relatively tiny.

I alluded to international with 'continent'. In China football plays second or third fiddle to basketball and table tennis in a huge way. And those who do follow football are, it's probably fair to say, a little more fickle and why shouldn't they be? They often support players rather than teams. They all love Ronaldo and Messi. There're extraordinary figures about how many Ronaldo 7 shirts Juventus sold only a day or two after he signed, it pretty much paid off the transfer fee. I knew one person over there who was obsessed with Lewandowski and would support Torquay United if he signed for them.

I'd love to know how many Chinese people are placing bets with LaBa or Love Bet coz they've seen Ben Mee wearing it.

But it must be worth it or else it wouldn't keep happening so fair play. I just wondered that's all.

Are you seriously suggesting you know the amount agreed with an individual advertiser ?

All we really know is that in our last set of accounts the total amount of Commercial Income was £11.9m within a Total Income of £139m or 8.5%. There was an even smaller figure for Matchday Income of £5.6m, so by far the largest element of Revenue for the club was Broadcast Income at £121.5m.

They are the facts, so the suggestion higher up the thread that a £1.5m increase in shirt sponsorship this year might be the difference in a getting an incoming transfer over the line is fanciful thinking at best.

All of that said, I do wonder exactly who is making these decisions to allow betting companies to take such a prominent role within our football club. For a Board with such high principles in so many other areas it's difficult to imagine Barry or Mike or John sanctioning such deals for such a small amount of additional financial gain. Personally I much prefer the stand that Luton Town are taking and that at a club for whom the additional Income would be far more beneficial than at Burnley.

Is that the same Luton Town, who's manager professed full support for this policy, and then went to work for Stoke City, owned and bankrolled by Peter Coates and family, owner of " Bet 365 " ......

It's a legitimate and legal business, so deal with it ... I personally would have no problem with Vaping, Tobacco, or Alcohol Companies sponsoring sports teams or clubs. However, if you were to ban the United Arab Emirates, Italian, Qatari, Chinese and Russian owners until they made a full and frank disclosure of the source of their wealth, their LBGT equality policies, their attitude to freedom of worship etc, then I'd be right with you ...

Given they are paying us such a low fee, in hindsight it makes it worse we didn't bin them after the Leeds cup came. A sponsor mocking us was totally unprofessional.

Not so bothered about the shirt sponsors we've had, apart from their horrific logos but Ladbrokes does bother me. The ads we put on social media are so intrusive and they have by far the biggest visual impact on the ground. You barely notice the shirt sponsors pitch side ads, and then we've got a whole stand dressed up like a Ladbrokes shop window. Then there's all their poor 'banter' tweets that have been not too kind about Burnley.

The Ladbrokes deal is pittance by comparison to the rest of the money we receive from elsewhere. Six figures, but very nominal.

It’s a 2 way thing. The global exposure is huge. The Far Eastern gambling market is enormous and the amount of money that changes hands through gambling on PL games astronomical.

It's ok, when he reaches 11 or 12 he can then advertise gambling companies.

As they allow kids gambling companies on the shirt, if you do say is it possible to have a plain 1 please to the club shop staff as he's only 12, you'll get a response of
"No sorry we dont do plain ones in that size?( hes not 12 yet ) but he can still have one with the logo on, just dont tell the lady at the kiosk who its for"

Exactly this. My lad is 8. He's not the tallest lad in his class and he's as thin as a rake but with the ridiculously sizing on these tops his current shirt is age 11-12. How long before I'm paying full whack for an adult's kit?

As has been said it is for international audiences. Unlike the ridiculously low amount of Burnley games shown on UK TV, every game is shown in all four corners of the world. Lets also not forget, premier league weekly magazine show, the review show, the preview show and the highlights. Its also worth mentioning that in some far east countries there is a Premier League channel run by the league itself, so that is a hell of a lot of exposure, even if we are only little old Burnley. Its the reason we get so much broadcast money.

It's all part of it, more cash that way.

I'd love yo see child at 17 who is in a 16-17 shirt. I dont think that will ever happen. The average 12 year old will be in a small adults shirt and so on. And as the shirts are usually more popular for the younger generation, it gets another £15 out of parets for children's shirts, and more advertising for the bookies.

I notice the youth teams all get bigger shirts without the logo regardless of size if under 18.
So the staff saying it "isn't possible" is just BS. Purely a money making exercise, whether that's through extra cost of the shirt or a bartering tool to potential suitors to say x amount of people will be walking round advertising your company.

Cash is king I'm afraid, and what damage it causes to whoever is irrelevant.

Its the same as how all teams have new home kits every season. Can anyone remember when Man Utd did it in their first contract with Nike and the papers and parents went into a frenzy. Now it's an accepted norm. Same as sizing.

Totally agree..

More and more clubs getting greedy.
Often eating at the top table doesn't mean the club in question thinks we dont need to squeeze every last penny from our fans anymore, but quite the opposite. Even with the 120+m a season everything then seems to have a price/fee, even if they were things that didn't before the new found riches.

Agree 100%. If the club offered an option to buy a shirt with a sponsor on for £40 or a shirt without a sponsor for £50, I'd choose the £50 version. All kits look crap with sponsors logos.
