IP address question

Post by mikeconroy10 » Fri May 17, 2019 12:11 pm

Can anyone tell me if I switched ISP's from Sky to BT would I then have a new IP address? I've tried googling but can't seem to find a straight answer.

Yes, you would if you use their router. If you connect to the internet via a router then your routers IP address is your IP address. Change that address manually, or change the router, and you'll get a new IP.

You don't need to change ISPs to get a new IP.

Yes.

Although if you're on Sky or BT then your IP address will probably change every so often anyway.

usually changes every 30 days unless you pay extra for a static IP address
