Great pictures. What an era. Probably my favourite ever 3 or 4 years as a burnley fan.

Wow... now I feel old!! Remember listening at home to Radio Lancashire as a litte nipper, and buy the Telegraph the next day. Brilliant thanks for posting.

Excellent day with Rossy Clarets, kept on at the open end while Plymouth fans threw half the park behind us onto the terraces, think they were a tad disappointed. 10 men, you're better with 10 men!

Was only 6 at the time. Didn't go the game or remember anything about it. ive spoken many a time to my dad and uncle who went who have told me how good it was. I went to the final against Stockport tho which I can remember bits of quite well really. UTC

Great to get play on their pitch at the end - despite the shower of bricks.

Very much the same for me, listened with my neighbour as 9 year old and got the paper the next day.
My parents surprised me with a ticket to final

The home 0-0 was hard to take, as Plymouth fans were all over the motorway and services, as I travelled home. Scarves from windows etc.
10 men, we only need 10 men. Grrr!
At home, my wife went to do her dinner lady job and her colleague was full of it.
"The family are all going to Wembley. They are travelling up, the day before and all staying with us! Floors and all! Brilliant that Olymouth are off to Wembley. Your Ian must be gutted".
My wife told her it was only half time, so don't make too many arrangements.
I drive to Plymouth. Park up. Walk across the park and stand with the Clarers, in hope.
We destroy them! Super Johnny Francis!
10 men. You're better with 10 men!!!! Hahaha.
Home in ecstasy. Mrs McL goes to work with big smile. "I told you! Shouldn't mess with Burnley! Family still visiting?"
Glorious.

I travelled up from Cornwall on a Plymouth supporters bus( looking back I don't know how I had the nerve) ..was weird getting off the bus as an away 'fan',went and got my away leg ticket then onto the Sparrow to meet up wth brother/sis in law for a beer or 3
Left a few minutes early to get back to the coaches( didn't park em outside back then)
10 men,we only need 10 men ALL THE FECKIN WAY HOME
Then the away leg,the tv and papers had been full of it leading up to it down here...they thought they'd already done it,the carnival atmosphere etc etc on the night, they even played in their new kit early lol..
The game itself, well we all know how that turned out, what a night, will never forget it...police and stewards in front of the lyndurst road end to keep the pitch invaders away but a few numpties ran at the fence from the mayflower side...a tad dissapointed I think lol,I don't recall dodging bricks from round the back though
What still makes me chuckle when I think back to the time was watching the local news on the following evening when they interviewed Peter Shilton after the game, floodlights still on ,all home fans gone and in the background is the tooting of horns in the car park outside as Burnley fans started their journeys home
Happy days and a great night

One of the great nights. Helluva journey down, but the locals were all very welcoming when we arrived - all smiles and handshakes and “well done for coming.”
Very different on the walk back to the car...

I went to Plymouth that season but unfortunately I went to the League game (think it was Philliskirk's debut) when we got beat and not the Play Off match. About the most fun that day was in the car park after the game watching the Plymouth and Burnley numpties and the local cops run round after each other like a scene from Benny Hill
Still listening to the play off game on radio Lans was brilliant enough

I didn't go to this game but it got my Dad so excited that he booked the whole family tickets to Wembley.
From being a half-hearted follower beforehand, I've been a committed Claret ever since and never looked back.
