Good news, paderborn! Always good to play at the highest level andI am sure that everyone will be looking forward to next season.
Let's hope that you manage to stay up although it will be difficult as usual.

Hi Ashy..hope you are well mate.
Hopefully this time around it will be better managed.
Last time it nearly killed the club. 2 relegations plus a 3rd which didn't happen because 1860 failed their licence. Now after back to back promotions we're back.
Pure madness

Hi Paders --yes I am well and have renewed for next season and got a newer car to cover the journeys!
We can only live in hopes and hope that the club is well looked after when we go playing with the big fish. We are surviving and it is a hard battle and always will be. I sincerely hope that Paderborn are managed better this time and don't overstretch themselves at the behest of fans.
I hope that you are also keeping well.

Soft spot for Paders as it was my first posting in the army all those years ago. (1989)

Good luck, although I’d imagine it’ll be tough.

Union finished 3rd and now play Stuttgart to see who plays Bundesliga football. I think Stuttgart will be too strong but you just never know.

Understandable CT.

Everyone has a soft spot for certain clubs.

They became Leeds overnight

Big changes ahead at that club.

Only down to us playing them all those years ago in the European Cup. I thought, at the time, they were the only team in Germany. :D

Having followed the last few games of the season it was almost like no one wanted to finish second and all three teams tried to bottle it at some point.

Anyway, here's to Union doing Stuttgart. When is the playoff?

Hi Bob

The place has changed a lot over the years.
About to hand back the last of the barracks to the Stadt as 20 Bde leave in August. Left is Sennelager of course...and that's it...sad really.

The likes of Savoys...Black and White..and that Movie place by the train crossing are long gone.

Still a wonderful city though ;)

Remember the Movie-star bar well. Yep, always liked it and the mrs wants to have a weekend there for old times sake.

Skinful in the city centre, finish in the “cider bunker” as we called it then a gyros at the “Bolton 5”. Seriously happy times, and ze Germans were always more tolerant of us than they probably should’ve been. We eventually found a bar hidden away with no squaddies called “akka-demie” full of students. Happy days and nights in there.

I lived in Elsen village, which was mainly populated by Germans, and that’s how I liked it as opposed to elsen heide which was squaddie-ville. Worked at Alanbrooke Barracks with both the QLR and 3LI.

Germany was a great place to live, really miss it.

I lived in Alanbrooke from July 92 until Dec 93. Handed back Sept 17....still empty :(

Some memories there Bob especially the cider bunker...still there. Was the student bar near the traffic lights below Alanbrooke..if so spent many a night there too.
The Uni has grown massively too...you really need to pop over for 'old times sake'....many do. We take the Bier Fests and food truck fests for granted here...most people don't appreciate it until they've gone.

Absolutely. Every town I served in had annual bier fests and schutzenfests (which I loved cos I love shooting to this day.) here in the uk we occasionally get a german/euro style market but they want £8 for a brattie and a gluhwein and that annoys me. We keep saying we will fly over and have the real experience.

The student bar was over the other side of town- well off the beaten path and me and my mate never saw another squaddie in there and neither did we tell anyone about it either. ;)

There was a bar straight across from the camp gates called “holzwurm” (for some reason unknown to me we called it the stormer) owned by Dagmar. Many a drunken night in there with squaddies and locals alike.

Had a few in Dagmar's but tended to stay away...lots of stress as LI had just amalgamated and they were sorting out the new world order  Would nip across to the BP garage for a yellow handbag :P and then into the Greek next door before heading into town.

Now and again. Don't have a season ticket anymore. The club ripped us all off after the promotion last time... I'm a stubborn sod and refused to attend the matches on principle.

All the glory hunters will be back again...frustrating but the norm.

I hear they are keeping Athlone and Normandy about 200 staying there crazy to think there was over 20,000 Soldiers when I first went there in 92. 5 Years in Dortmund my old camp is now Borrussia Dortmund’s training Ground and then about 13 in Paderborn on Dempsey and STC. You still working on Normandy Padders? or have you gone full on Deutche and moved on to the German net?

Bobinho was that around the Cocktail bar I think towards the Hospital (St Vincents I think). Me and my Mates loved it around that cocktail bar, used to beat the Pleasuredome anyway. I tended to go to the Auld Triangle and Bar Celonas towards the end of my time there. Miss it I still drool when I think about the Argentinian Steak Houses can’t get a Steak close over here.

Yes, definitely up near St Vincents.

There was an Argentinian steak house right next to the Dom (cathedral) and it was absolutely amazing. Really miss Germany, but Paderborn and Gutersloh especially.

You are pretty much up to date you 2.
Obviously bars come and go but generally they are still here...some under a new name. Mangos...Fat Louis.. Hemmingways. The Steak houses are as popular as ever...the city is always full.
I'm in Normandy and yes we are staying along with Athlone. In what form nobody knows yet...a farce really as we're as busy as ever. Rumours are Athlone will close in 24 after STC is built up to take the kit from M'bach. We still have our redundancy until 31 Dec. Apparently an announcement will be made in 5-6 weeks as to how we move forward  Northumbria OUTC are over very soon Jarrow...regulars.
I've been on the German net since 92 so getting my duel nationality was pretty simple...too much to lose with the uncertainty.
Loads come back as reservists...just for the bier and Currywurst
