Foreign Names Translated
After just reading the Juan Mata thread I thought it would be cool to hear of football player's names translated into English and to see if we can guess who they are.
I'll start off
Ex boro and derby striker Fabrice radishes.

Todmorden in German. Tod = death, morden = verb to kill.

An ex Burnley player, Arthur Good Friend. Hasenhuttl doesn't strictly mean rabbit hutch, since Ein Hase in German is a hare. Schweinsteiger means 'pig mounter' in German, which is comparable which Bergsteiger, a mountain climber.

I think not comparable at all if you're the pig.Vino blanco wrote:Schweinsteiger means 'pig mounter' in German, which is comparable which Bergsteiger, a mountain climber.

Re: Foreign Names Translated
Steigen is the German verb to rise, if I remember rightly. So a little bit of artistic licence being used there.

Re: Foreign Names Translated
To raise animals in German is 'zuechten' or possibly 'aufziehen'. Steigen simply mean to climb, to mount,or other similar terms.

Aufsteigen is used for boarding public transport. In the distant past you probably stepped up, so to rise would be apt. Now commonly accepted as to mount.Claretmatt4 wrote:Steigen is the German verb to rise, if I remember rightly. So a little bit of artistic licence being used there.
