Re: PL rule changes
"Players will now be made to leave the pitch at the nearest point on the touchline, preventing them from slowly walking the length of the pitch before being taken off."
So now players will make sure to be on the center spot. Then add a few more seconds asking the ref which side of the pitch is nearest

Re: PL rule changes
I don't know why they didn't just give them a 15 second limit to leave any way they want. Then if they aren't off in the time, the sub would have to wait until the next break in play (and refs would be told to start adding the time on as well).
Re: PL rule changes
Ball in play for 30 minutes each half would stop all the timewasting

Why not let the 4th official deal with it without stopping play 1 off 1 on ?paulatky wrote:Ball in play for 30 minutes each half would stop all the timewasting

Re: PL rule changes
Should have another look at foul throws. Over half of late are fouls but never get penalised.

Re: PL rule changes
Most (not all) of these changes are idiotic. The drop ball problem can be sorted easily: just have a proper drop ball?!?!?
As for law 8, kick off, I always thought you were allowed to ask to kick off??

No winner of the coin toss has always had choice of ends.Roosterbooster wrote:Most (not all) of these changes are idiotic. The drop ball problem can be sorted easily: just have a proper drop ball?!?!?

I take it the rule preventing rebounds off penalties wasn't passed?

Re: PL rule changes
Don’t know how long that’s been the case but definitely not always. Teams used to be able to opt to kick off.dpinsussex wrote:No winner of the coin toss has always had choice of ends.

Re: PL rule changes
From 1873 until 1997 the team winning the toss could choose ends or decide to take the kick off. Since 1997 the team winning the toss had to choose which end they wished to attack, they could not decide to take the kick off.ClaretTony wrote:Don’t know how long that’s been the case but definitely not always. Re: PL rule changes
So is the keeper supposed to stay still now before a penalty is taken apart from taking one step off the goal line?
It does seem that the ball is not dead if the keeper saves the spot kick or it hits the posts as was intimated earlier this year.
There will be folk behind me complaining when an outfield player plays the ball inside the box from a goal kick-a move clearly aimed at the likes of City keeping the ball for nearer 90 minutes.

It's so irrelevant that I didn't even know it had changed to be honest.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:From 1873 until 1997 the team winning the toss could choose ends or decide to take the kick off. Re: PL rule changes
I suppose it would have prevented the problem of player encroachment. I saw one recently in the Premier League where all ten outfield defending players had encroached before the pen was taken. The commentator even said there were seven, he clearly not having any understanding of the D where the other three players were.Quickenthetempo wrote:I take it the rule preventing rebounds off penalties wasn't passed?

Re: PL rule changes
Just been reading the new handball rules. Looks like the defender may deliberately handle the ball as long as their hand/arm is not making their body profile unnaturally large and not above shoulder height when they do so. Law of unintended consequences springs to mind on this one.

Re: PL rule changes
it would have been simpler if the officials had clamped down on things in the past, it was their own lack of disclipline that permitted keepers to **** about on and off the goal line i the first place without being punished.
They need to get something done about the wrestling that goes on in the six yard box too, ridiculous amount of blatant fouls being committed and hardly ever penalised.

Re: PL rule changes
No. Line one of the new rule says "Deliberate handball is still an offence".bfcmik wrote:Just been reading the new handball rules. Re: PL rule changes
I've just read that the captain that wins the toss will once again be able to choose the direction of play in this coming season....Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:From 1873 until 1997 the team winning the toss could choose ends or decide to take the kick off. Having just read the law changes, I think some are pretty good....eg goal kicks/defence fk's not having to leave the area

Re: PL rule changes
Why can’t they just bring in flying subs as in rugby? No needless time wasting then.
Clock management has to come soon. The ref has enough to do with game management.
Stop clock after 6 secs for throw-ins and 10 secs for corners, goal kicks and freekicks. Countdown clock on show would end all arguments.
On Friday night, over here, St. Pats equalised, against Cork City, 6m25s into 5m added. There had been 1 substitution. No justice.

Re: PL rule changes
Went to a Welsh League game last season to visit a new ground and was stood near the linesman . was very interesting
listening to the conversations he was conducting with the referee, especially regarding time wasting ... When a
substitution took place the ref ran to the player and said "I'm walking off with you if you are slower than me i will
book you !! " ...

I'm aware of the change in 1997 (I refereed around that time)....I did read on the BBC website of the change for this season copied below....Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:Since 1997, the team winning the toss have had to choose the direction of play ---there is no change to that next season.

Apologies turfy. I misread the whole thing and then contradicted myself about the change for next season! Sorry, must be my age!turfytopper wrote:I'm aware of the change in 1997 (I refereed around that time)....I did read on the BBC website of the change for this season copied below....
