RIP Niki Lauda

Passed away aged 70. In an era when the word hero is used so loosely, surely the epitome of courage, determination and heroism.

Three times F1 world champion and to get back racing after his horrific accident in which he suffered third degree burns was little short of miraculous. Had some good battles with James Hunt.

Shocked.

Dedicated to his sport and achieved great success, despite those injuries.

He was back driving an F1 car 6 weeks after suffering third degree burns in a horrific fire and being given the last rites. Fierce rivalry with James Hunt back in the mid 70s, 2 completely different characters and driving styles. After what happened to him in 1976, to survive to 70 years old is an achievement in itself. RIP

Amazing to reach 70 after those injuries. Can remember the crash quite well and certainly makes you feel old. We’re only here for a visit so make it worthwhile......and think how lucky you are to be a claret...
