I must be the only one who thinks he might have another year in him. At least in his current role of "last ten minutes havoc causer", because even tho those who may oppose it, can surely see there is value in that?

We aint gonna go out and buy Messi, or Bale - we aint even gonna buy Che, so maybe this could help us in the long run by giving us time to identify a proper prospect/target and get in early for a change?

If no other clubs have come in for him (and they obviously haven't if he is going to hang his boots up) then probably the right decision not to pay him thousands of pounds a week for an unproductive ten minutes here and there.

Be thankful for small mercies (even 6' 7" ones)

As soon as I read that an offer was on the table, I knew he was going to retire. If you need time to think about signing for a Premier League club at 38, you’re hearts not in it.

Even if the moneys ****, it’s only 9 months.

What's the plan then?

Replace Crouch with another forward who will get the odd 5-10 minutes here are there, but will have to compete with vydra for those impact minutes.

Would it be a Wells type of signing at a greater cost? Or a Jay Rod type who's transfer fee and wages would be even higher?

I thought, initially, that he would cause havoc in the last minutes of games and the Southampton game reaffirmed that. However, since then, nothing has happened - against Arsenal he was totally ineffective, in fact we were pushed further back after he came and a lack of mobility up front was just so obvious. I thought then that we must not extend the deal and hopefully we won’t.

For me we have to be looking to spend 15/20 million on someone who is good enough to be serious competition for Barnes/Wood. Let Vydra go and just use Wells as 4th choice, seeing as he has a year left on his deal.

An upgrade on Crouch would be pointless, if we are to spend decent money we should look at an upgrade on our best strikers. Either that or unearth a young striker with PL potential.

Akinfenwa would be a proper causing havoc in the last ten minutes signing.Obviously not going to happen though.

Another £15m on the bench plus wages and then the derision of Wells on the bench.

When you say let vydra go......what do you mean? Open the back gate and hope he runs out?

We need proper backup for Barnes/Wood, Dyche clearly doesn't fancy Vydra so we need someone else. What if Barnes or Wood gets a serious injury early in the season? Also it isn't good for those 2 to know that they are guaranteed to start every game no matter what, they need to be kept on their toes.
I'm sure they'd be interest in Vydra from the Championship and abroad, we might have to take a little bit of a loss on what we paid for him but it is what it is.

He is different and against some teams, would be hard for them to handle.

If he gains a few points, for a few mins, here and there, then it would be a great investment.

A lot of matches, he would not even be on the bench. Others, he could be vital, late on.

You see, I don't get this at all. Teams get points, not individual players. Teams set strikers up, strikers are not there to cause this mythical "mayhem" at which Peter Crouch is rumoured to be brilliant.

Neither Wood nor Barnes are the sort of tall, target man Dyche historically likes to have in his squad, and if Crouch is up to it it potentially saves is £15 million quid to invest elsewhere this summer.

Unless he does take it out if our hands, one to trust Dyche's assessment of fitness on I'd have thought.

Not a patch on Vokes! But then Vokes did command a fee!

He was little use in our own box which is what we also need from a big man who comes on.

In fairness he hasn’t touched a ball much since January and if he can’t readily commit to our cause he should blog off

If he retires do we still have to honour the 4 year deal he signed in January ? It was 4 years wasn't it, there is no way the bed wetters on here would spend 4 months crying about a 6 month signing.

For me, the answer to the Peter Crouch question lays in the midfield. A waste of a wage or a useful tool in the box will most likely be determined not by his abilities, but by signings and/or fitness in other areas. .

What did he do in any of those games? don't feed me the nonsense about him winning a penalty either like he ran through 3 players and forced a foul because he didn't, he simply jumped next to the opposition defender who handled it. He's 6 foot 7 and I don't think i've seen him win a header for us, he seems to shrink when he jumps. If you want to claim he won a penalty, i'll claim he lost us points too by being on the field despite being nowhere near good enough and taking the place of someone considerably better. Not to mention our already mind numbing style of play becomes utterly disgusting the moment that plank is brought on.

Given the situation in January, to lose Vokes and replace him with a 50 year old benchwarmer from the Championship when deep in trouble is one of the worst bits of business this club has ever done and a decision that could have easily backfired and left us relegated. Disgraceful risk to take at the time, the board seemingly don't learn from their mistakes and continue to take unnecessary gambles. Juke was absolute gash for us but he offered considerably more than Crouch, i'd argue Juke does everything better than Crouch.

We should phone Eddie Howe and ask him to scout us some attacking players, he certainly knows a good en when he sees one. Brooks, Wilson, Austin, Ings, Vokes, King, Ibe, Fraser, Ritchie, Stanislas. Only a matter of time before his latest signing Solanke starts firing too, looks an excellent prospect and potentially a bargain at £16-£19M with the way the market is.

I'm bored of us signing naff over the hill British players, wasting a ton of money in the process, i'd rather we just gambled on a 16 year old kid and I know just the guy, Jeremy Doku, young Belgian winger, 16 year old, been in and around the Anderlecht side, saw him play for Belgium's under 17s, different class, a step above everyone on the pitch. Young, direct, fast as hell, beat defenders for the fun of it, end product very good too, already a better player than Lennon and would offer much more.

Here's a Jeremy Doku highlight video, different class, gonna be some player in a few years. Another i've been impressed with is 16 year old Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes, made a couple of appearances this season for them, energetic fearless young midfielder, box to box. Ran the show in the game I saw against Monaco.

Forget Ryan Noble, Marvin Sordell, Juke, Jon Walters, Lennon, Steven Reid, Peter Crouch type signings, I wanna see some youngsters, bring a bit of excitement, pace and trickery to our dull brexit style. Bored of seeing Lennon run to the byline to knock it back to Bardsley which ends up with Heaton punting it forward, boring football. Dwight was a breath of fresh air, direct, skill, non stop trying to beat a man and whip quality into the box.
