Re: Good grief !
Why not just move Mee to the left back, have Dawson right back and have 4 Central defenders? In fact while we're at it lets go all out and play Long, Gibson and all our full backs as well.
Playing 8 at the back should frustrate Chelsea and David Luiz even more. Brady can be the attacking option to come on as third left back in the 89th minute.
If we're in need of an extra defender in case we are taking too many risks we can give Jimmy Dunne a start.
Heaton
Lowton - Bardsley - Dawson - Long - Dunne - Tarkowski - Gibson - Mee - Taylor - Brady
Flat 10-0-0
Hey it's no more far-fetched than Hendrick playing as a number 10.

Still think he's a very good player. Excellent aggression in the box from set plays and can tackle. At the right price he'd be a good addition.

Is Dawson worth £15 million?
I'll answer my own question no,WBA fans can't believe we have offered £15, if we have that is.why do we always chase old targets?

Old targets or old targets?
Either way if there's any substance to it it means a CB is off.

We are going to make an hell of a profit on Tarkowski, that's the targets we need to aim for players like him with massive sell on fees ....not Dawson.

Have you a source for this? I've seen no suggestion anywhere that we have made a bid. Are you sure you aren't just misreading the Sun article?Steve1956 wrote:I'll answer my own question no,WBA fans can't believe we have offered £15, if we have that is.why do we always chase old targets?

How can you guarantee that every player we sign from the Championship and below will work out?Steve1956 wrote:We are going to make an hell of a profit on Tarkowski, that's the targets we need to aim for players like him with massive sell on fees ....not Dawson.
We know that Dawson has played in the Premier league.
Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
In today's market I would say 'probably yes'

In the last two season's he's played in a relegated team and one that failed to get out of the Championship, and 29...I was just questioning wether he's worth 15 million or not, with no sell on value?Spijed wrote:How can you guarantee that every player we sign from the Championship and below will work out?

No but someone will pay it!
Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
I'd much rather splash £15m on Che Adams. Dawson might be worth that if we sell Tarks for £50m

Most teams try and buy players that strengthen their first team and can make a profit at a later date.
Maybe Norwich he could strengthen but he would lose value faster than a brand new car driving off the forecourt.
Remember, he got shifted to right back in the prem as he wasn’t first choice centre back.

Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
in an era where teams that succeed spend almost a billion pounds to construct a winning squad, 15 mill is like change down the back of an old sofa.
Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
Lazy journalism I'd guess but it has got few to turn to social media to show their displeasure.
With wba tightening their belts Dawson could go for £10m which would be a decent price for an experienced centre half.
Some utc posters will want us to spend much more than that on a bigger name.

Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
15 million would be a very generous offer for a player with 1 year left on his contract and WBA seemingly needing to cut costs. If the stories are true then that should be our only offer, take it or leave it.

Re: Good grief ! - Dawson again
It's an ingenious plan riddled with revenge..
WBA will be shown the signed cheque for £15m..
Dawson's pen will be hovering over the dotted line..
Garlick will up and walk out smirking as he tosses the cheque in the air like confetti

Re: Is Dawson worth £15 million?
As Zikhov states, he is ready made, to replace a sold Tarkowski. Overall, we will make lots and be ready.Quickenthetempo wrote:Apart from us, I don't think anyone else would.

If it is £15m (speculation at this point), then it is the end of the chain starting with an inflated Maquire, followed by an inflated Tarkowski.

Re: Good grief ! - Dawson again
So we buy Dawson, then let’s say Tarks DOESNT get sold.
Be like Mee/Gibson all over again.
Think it was Einstein who said something about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.
I’d like to think this isn’t going to happen, as Colburn (and others) say, there are other more pressing priorities, but we will see.

Bournemouth sign a player for £13m with a season of championship football under his belt. £15m could be the right value for a player of his PL experience.

The speculation regarding Dawson is covered in the Rumour Mill section of the Guardian
"And finally, in what is quite possibly a media conspiracy to make the Mill look even more gullible than usual for reproducing such implausible nonsense, assorted news outlets are saying Burnley are plotting a club record £15m bid for the West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson. No, really."

Could you imagine our club having a record transfer fee spent on a journeyman CH from the championship?

Rodriguez is easily one of the best strikers in that league.

Re: Good grief ! - Dawson again
Unfortunately using opinions of supporters is no barometer of how good a player is.Longsider wrote:WBA fan at work would rather we took Rodriguez than Dawson.
Take Trippier for example. Spurs supporters think he is rubbish. Burnley supporters think he is fantastic.
That's how it tends to work in the football community when player comes up for discussion at various clubs.

Re: Good grief ! - Dawson again
Just in terms of Dawson and the prize tag - the question is surely whether it is worth £15 million to us to replace Tarks - should he leave - with someone who can slot in and perform at a level which keeps us in the premier league next season and ideally a year or so beyond.
I'd have thought the answer to that is unequivocally yes.
And so that's really that - if Dyche thinks Dawson can do the above, then there's no more debate to it. He's worth £15 million to us. The fact he's 29 doesn't really matter - if we have to replace Tarks, we need someone who can do the job now and for the next couple of seasons at the required standard. We haven't the time for a rookie - however much potential they have - to learn on the job. We then worry about replacing Dawson when we need to.
Personally I've never been completely sold on Dawson but it seems he's Dyches preferred man so no more questions really.
