Good luck to him. Got to start somewhere and this might be the foot in the door he needs.
Unsure on management. But he absolitely could and would be an asset to the game. Especially young kids.
He has the skills and experience - football and life, that many aspiring and professional players can learn from.

" 100% Claret " or " Natural Born Claret ", something of that ilk, I seem to recall ...
Best of luck to him, that goal v Cambridge Utd in Stan's promotion season is still in my top 3 goals I've ever seen on the Turf !

I am sure he has already managed a team (clitheroe area rings a bell) and it did not go well. Hope he learnt from that.
P.S. Vote for Nigel he will save us.

Re: ARTICLE: Payts takes over at Garstang
He's bloody hard work to listen to when he's been interviewed or when he's on the radio. But that shouldn't be a problem in the management job.
An absolute goal scoring machine for us.
I hope that he does really well.

I remember his brother always used to watch Payts
Does he still go to the Turf or did he stop all those years ago when his brother left?

I was at primary school with Andy and David, St.John's in Padiham. Two great lads, their father, if i remember also called David was a carpet fitter, did our front room. Of course I've followed Andy's career, ups and downs, and wish him all the very best of luck in his new role.

Nah, Murray and Simmons were deputy heads. Which brings me to my mistake further up, Mr Morris was head, not deputy as I'd said earlier.Spijed wrote:Was that Mr Murray?
I remember who the lanky bloke is now, Billy Monks. It was a genuine question because I couldn't remember, but obviously it's now come to me.
He wasn't that bad compared to digger Jones, PE teacher. His pump for punishment was called Edwina. When out on cross country, he followed at the back with a stem of nettles, stinging anyone on the legs if he caught up to them. Got me a few times as I hated running unless I was chasing a football.

He has definitely left Garstang unfortunately. That's the trouble with football today, managers don't get any time to bed in. It's a joke to be honest.

I have a mate who was asked to train for them but ended up not doing for one reason or another. Just asked him about this and his words were: “That club is owned by this local farmer who is a millionaire. Real w*nker, anyone who gets on the wrong side of him soon disappears”. Make of that what you will.

Oh and I know this won’t be a popular opinion but Chris Wood is a far better player than Andy Payton was, albeit Payts was very good at the level he played for us at.

If he is always offside then we can expect that he will end the season on 0 league goals with the introduction of VAR

BUT if you look at the overall picture he is a striker who is scoring a decent amount of goals in the PL. I like Burnley strikers who score. I don't just concentrate on one of their minor weaknesses.MRG wrote:He can be the best in the world, it’s pointless if he’s consistently offside

I know we berate officials but it is incredible that he's ever scored a goal if he needs teaching to stay onside and he's consistently offside. Yet he's scored 107 career league goals including 20 for us in just 51 starts and 13 sub appearances.MRG wrote:He can be the best in the world, it’s pointless if he’s consistently offside
I really don't get this offside obsession some have about him.

Re: ARTICLE: Payts takes over at Garstang
As for Payts getting sacked after only 5 games; if it's been done on his first 5 results then that's pathetic. As always though, there may be more to it behind the scenes. I went to the Garstang Steeton game the other week and Payts was very calm in the dugout which was a stark comparison to how he was a few years ago at Colne.
To answer a question from further up - Garstang are in the NW Counties first division.

Imagine how many more he would score if he wasn’t the leagues most commonly offside player!ClaretTony wrote:I know we berate officials but it is incredible that he's ever scored a goal if he needs teaching to stay onside and he's consistently offside. Any suggestion that he isn’t consistently offside is blinkered and the stats prove this.

I know your obsession with this, but I'm more than happy at the way he plays, more than happy at his goal return and more than happy with his performances. Shame some can't see past a flag.
