rovers fans clams re the Orient game
I have heard this a few times from them lot down the road and always assumed it to be ********. Nevertheless I will ask the question here. They claim to be there in numbers on that game, some even claiming they helped pack out the place. Can any Clarets who was there help put this one to bed as it was a couple of years before my time.

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
And there were a couple trying to get in the away end thatwere identified and taken away by the old bill. I hope there were loads of them there and they had their day ruined by Burnley. And I hope they are still Rovers fans and every day they wake up to their car crash of a club, hated owners, eye watering debt levels and recent 3rd division football. And then they look 13 miles down the M65 and wonder what did happen to that club they came to bury 32 years ago.

Nowt wrong with a bit of grief tourism.
I'm no stranger to Ewood over recent seasons...spent a good few hours sat gloating quietly amongst the unwashed with a little smirk playing gently across my lips. Never actually knocked one out as the final whistle approached but the thought crossed my mind once.

The head of Hapton Primary was sat near me in the Cricketfield. He genuinely wanted us to win. But then again he was a genuinely nice bloke even for a Rovers fan.

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
Rovers fans also think that they were a well run club under John Williams, plus through the Walker years before Venky’s. This dispite losing about £150m during that time despite profits on players. Remember their turnover for many years was £5-20m, including the Tv money.
Will there have been a few? Yeah, just as there are a few Clarets at their games today through family and friendships etc.

I remember chatting to a Burnley fan in a pub pre match years ago who swore blind that Jamie Hoyland had deliberately been sent off at Wycombe in a 5-0 defeat so we wouldn't go up so he's get an extra year on his contract.

Nobody's making it up though, rovers fans were at the game, as stated in several posts above.Lancasterclaret wrote:I remember chatting to a Burnley fan in a pub pre match years ago who swore blind that Jamie Hoyland had deliberately been sent off at Wycombe in a 5-0 defeat so we wouldn't go up so he's get an extra year on his contract.

And its nice to see that the wheel has come full circle.
All they go on about now is the past, just like we used to, and they used to rip the **** out of us for doing it.
Here's to many, many, many, many more years of laughing at them!

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
A Rovers fan came with me and cheered the Clarets to the hilt. Shock, horror.
Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
They were averaging less than 7000 in the second tier that season so even if they’d all turned up it’d have been less than half the number in the ground for the Orient match. It may have run into three figures, but ‘filling out the ground’ when they were a long way short of ‘filling out’ Ewood seems highly unlikely.
Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
Whichever way you cut it, it was an historic occasion of monumental proportion.
Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
Surely Rovers fans prefer "Sea Horses" to Clams?

They used to say that we used to bullsh1t our away attendances.
Well they weren't even playing that day, and they are bullsh1tting their away numbers.

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
I have been to BollEwood a few times in the away end other than when Burnley were playing:
1985 v Grimsby last game of the season and they needed a win, otherwise they could have gone down. Quite a number of Clarets there and a couple of Rovers fans in the away end. There were a few punches thrown and the Rovers fans were thrown out. Met a couple of them as I walked back to the car after the game.....
1988 v Villa with a school mate who is a Villa fan. Huge following from Villa and a load of trouble from them after the game, including a brick thrown over the top of my mate's dad's car that he borrowed that went through someone's house window.
Went there with Forest with a Forest supporting mate, can't recall much of that.
2002 Xmas time with West Ham and my in laws. I got the away end singing "where were you when you were sh!t" at the Rovers fans. And my brother in law had to pay the car park attendant, as I refused to hand money over to someone wearing a Rovers shirt.
And then I went to Upton to watch West Ham v ROvers. I was stood outside the Queens on Green Street with a load of West Ham, who knew I was a Burnley fan but stood with my wife and her 2 brothers who are all Hammers, when one of the few Rovers coaches pulled up. Got the usual Gareth Hunt Nescafe waves from them, until I removed the claret & blue scarf from round my neck and held it aloft. For them not to read West Ham, but Burnley. Then they were going full on mental at the windows. About as mental as I went as just as I heard the strains of "are you Burnley in disguise" from the away fans, Trevor Sinclair lamped a 25 yarder into the top corner!
I think we drove to Southend after that game and went for a night out with the boxer Steve Collins. Very interesting day and night.

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
I'd take any claim by the 'Horse Botherers' with a pinch of salt. One of the most bizarre claims they make is on the ' Blackburn has no lads' web page ( wish I was tech savvy enough to provide a proper link) regarding our Boxing day defeat in 1977.
According to them, they had 6-7000 fans on their half of the Longside, 4000 fans on the Beehole End, 5,500 fans in the Cricket Field End and 250 fans in the Bob Lord.
I must have been at a different game.

Forget Rovers and their few hundred at this game, Leeds fans took 159,652 to this game to see us disappear. Now THAT is support! #wahls
Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
A small coach ful were stopped at the Mitre by the police ( mate of mine was on duty ) and advised to turn around for their own safety, " they realised the gravity of what potentially would happen to them " was the phrase.

Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
I've never understood supporters who want their rivals to go bust.Surely you want to be playing them or taking the mickey out of them for being in a lower league. If Rangers hadn't reformed i'm sure Celtic supporters would have been gutted after getting over the initial euphoria .
Re: rovers fans clams re the Orient game
I lived in Blackburn for 28 years Upto 1986. I went to the game on the train from Preston. I went for the pubs opening and caught the last train home. I never saw a single person who could possibly have been a Barsteward.

Well i might not be the brightest when it comes to maths, but if one of our guys saw four of their guys and another one of our guys saw another two of their guys that means our guys were outnumbered 3/1 meaning that out of the 15696 on, 26000 were their lot, or am i stupid?Lancasterclaret wrote:Read the first post Grumps
