I'm no May fan but that's a touch unfair, when you're handed a sh1t sandwich I'd imagine no amount of seasoning will make it taste nice.Steve1956 wrote:"The country I love"...... Which I have truly Fuccked up!
Only in a caretaker role, she won’t have any power after 7th (although she hasn’t really had any power since she threw away her majority in the commons by holding an unnecessary election).dsr wrote:I think she's staying on as PM until the Tory leadership election is complete.
Get a prominent brexiteer and leave with no deal on The 31st of October...simples.Falcon wrote:Given an impossible task and inevitably failed.
Can't see a successor being any better at delivering Brexit.
Harsh but correct I would say.Caballo wrote:I'm no May fan but that's a touch unfair, when you're handed a sh1t sandwich I'd imagine no amount of seasoning will make it taste nice.
I agree she won't have any power, and I agree that she hasn't been able to do anything since her Brexit deal failed and failed and failed to win a majority. Any other PM would have resigned long ago.martin_p wrote:Only in a caretaker role, she won’t have any power after 7th (although she hasn’t really had any power since she threw away her majority in the commons by holding an unnecessary election).
She was dressed in red to be fair.dsr wrote:I agree she won't have any power, and I agree that she hasn't been able to do anything since her Brexit deal failed and failed and failed to win a majority. Any other PM would have resigned long ago.
But presumably her last act to help out the Tory party (unless she has been a socialist mole all along!) will be to stay there until they have decided who has to replace her. If she resigns both jobs at once, then someone will have to be appointed - presumably the Tories' deputy leader - who is that?
Its like the last three years didn't happen.Steve1956 wrote:Get a prominent brexiteer and leave with no deal on The 31st of October...simples.
Absolutely she’ll be in the role until a successor is appointed, but it’ll almost be a ceremonial role after 7th. It essentially means paralysis until the end of July, the summer recess may as well start now.dsr wrote:I agree she won't have any power, and I agree that she hasn't been able to do anything since her Brexit deal failed and failed and failed to win a majority. It'll have to be a Brexiteer for the sake of the Tory party. Because all those votes that have defected to the Brexit party - if there isn't a Brexit supporter at the helm when the next general election comes round, then many of them won't come back.Steve1956 wrote:Get a prominent brexiteer and leave with no deal on The 31st of October...simples.

Care to take us through it all again?
(if he does Tony, then nuke the board!)
David Lidington is de facto deputy,he seems competent enough, but in this parliament that's hardly a compliment.dsr wrote:I agree she won't have any power, and I agree that she hasn't been able to do anything since her Brexit deal failed and failed and failed to win a majority. I'm tired of hearing this.Caballo wrote:I'm no May fan but that's a touch unfair, when you're handed a sh1t sandwich I'd imagine no amount of seasoning will make it taste nice.
Good luck getting that through HoCSteve1956 wrote:Get a prominent brexiteer and leave with no deal on The 31st of October...simples.
Competent? In this parliament, it's unheard of!tiger76 wrote:David Lidington is de facto deputy,he seems competent enough, but in this parliament that's hardly a compliment.
I thought that she wanted and applied for the job? If she didn't understand the seriousness of the situation and how difficult it was going to be then she clearly wasn't up to the job. And then to make matters worse she chose - against much advice - to throw her Parliamentary majority / advantage away.Caballo wrote:I'm no May fan but that's a touch unfair, when you're handed a sh1t sandwich I'd imagine no amount of seasoning will make it taste nice.

She'd have been better going after her attempt at a compromise lost by so many votes.Steve1956 wrote:If she had left at the end of March,it wouldn't have come to this Lancaster, she put the noose around her own neck and her party queued up to kick away the stool.
Problem for Tories is that if Johnson is elected by members they will almost certainly not be able to command a majority in the Commons since several MPs will defect to ChangeUk or sit as independents.dsr wrote: I expect it will be Boris. The MPs won't dare to leave him off the final two ballot (unless they can find a bit of dirty on him, and they can find a suitable Brexiteer candidate to put on the paper) and he would win the members' vote. If not him, then either Javid or Raab.
When you are in the same cabinet as Chris Grayling it's not hard to appear competent.dsr wrote:Competent? In this parliament, it's unheard of!

She wanted the s*it sandwich, she chose it, she looked at the menu and positively purred and drooled at the sh*t sandwich.
SHE WASN'T HANDED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Typically simplistic brexit thinking. How will the mathematics in Parliament change between now and the end of October?. Whoever becomes leader the maths against "no deal" will still be the same, and there's no chance now (I assume) of a general election in the interim period, since the Tories will be fighting a leadership campaign.Steve1956 wrote:Get a prominent brexiteer and leave with no deal on The 31st of October...simples.
The sh1it sandwich is Brexit, and it will continue to destroy politicians, prime ministers and governments until it's thrown in the bin.Caballo wrote:I'm no May fan but that's a touch unfair, when you're handed a sh1t sandwich I'd imagine no amount of seasoning will make it taste nice.
I can't see many MP'S defecting to Change UK they've had a car crash of a European election campaign,i could see several resigning the whip and sitting as independents, that way if events change it will be easier for them to return to the fold.nil_desperandum wrote:Problem for Tories is that if Johnson is elected by members they will almost certainly not be able to command a majority in the Commons since several MPs will defect to ChangeUk or sit as independents.
Isn't that because we have FPTP system whereas they have PR, which inevitably leads to continually changing coalitions?tiger76 wrote:To put UK politics into perspective.
Theresa May has been in office longer than twenty post-war Italian prime ministers.
Perhaps! i'm not that informed on Italian politics, elections seem to be an annual event for them though.nil_desperandum wrote:Isn't that because we have FPTP system whereas they have PR, which inevitably leads to continually changing coalitions?
THERE YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Caballo wrote:To add some gravitas to your comments and avoid any perceived ambiguity, I'd consider using more capitals and chuck in a couple more exclamation marks
