Out of those the largest is the 8,500 at Sheffield United but Deepdale in 1973 and probably Maine Road in 1960 would beat that.

Sheff Utd in early 90s was incredible. Still sticks in my mind.

Preston was also good. But was many times. Including The Gnohere game.

Ewood for the 0-5 :-(

Many of the games in 1991/92 though. Especially given how bad we were!

Wembley 88, 94 and 09!

Preston in the Sherpa Van Northern Final, thought that stand was going to collapse. Very scary in there at times, given how many of us were squeezed in there.....fantastic night thou.

Another thing what made the derby game special was seeing Ted McMinn play but the atmosphere was second to none

This thread covered quite a lot of our large ones.

We took over 20,000 to a Ewood Park for an FA Cup quarter final around 1913. That’s probably our largest following anywhere outside neutral venues I’d suggest?

I don't think it matters if it's 20000 or a cold Tuesday night in Carlisle with about 30 fans I personally think both are special

I was in the Kemlyn Rd Stand that night for my first visit to Anfield. I remember watching the highlights when we got home and the commentator mentioned that the loud singing was not the Liverpool fans on the Kop but the corner terrace and stand full of Clarets.

Oh Derek.......

Tin hat on...
Because they're generally not very big games meaning so much, we are usually underdogs, away wins arent as frequent, and some people say our set up away from home is not to get beat, so the football isn't that easy on the eye to put it up there with great away support.
Atmosphere also has a lot to do with great away days, and not selling out, tourist fans and bigger home crowds will also effect proples opinions.

You can't beat those balmy evening, midweek trips when something's at stake at the end of the season. Always seems a better atmosphere for some reason, with loads turning up at the last minute. York, Oldham away in '98 (until the downpour and us chucking it away) and at Barnsley for the first promotion under Dyche are classic examples.

I don't think you should confuse most with best. We have taken large numbers to games and been poor. For me it has to be Derby for the sheer never to be repeated or bettered passion IMHO.

Unless you were there and witnessed the atmosphere and that feeling you can't describe it could be a number of different game's over the years but for the one's lucky enough to be part of that very special night it's got to be Derby.

Fully with this sentiment. Always remember a pre season friendly at Walsall I think where we took over the stand behind the goal and they had to let us have part of the side stand also. 5 mins before kick off and fans were walki g onto pitch to get to other stand.

Never forget boinging at WBA although we lost to a Garner goal I think.

Taking over Oxford in the promotion season under Ternent. Watching a fan scale a building to mount the shark stuck on the outside of a womans house

I think you are right. We were sat towards the Kop end of the stand and I didn't see any Liverpool fans anywhere near us. Great night as a 14 year old and really stuck it up the Liverpool 'fans' at school when I asked how many times have you been to Anfield? 1 less than me you say?

There's actually another (very similar) picture which was taken from the home end, rather than the side and is slightly better. That's the one I have as my screensaver and I spend hours trying to spot myself, but can't. It's a bit like where's Wally!! (But more like where's Dickhead according to my wife!!! :o )

All the best ones I can think of have been listed, but, I will throw in a random one.

Leicester away in the 14/15 season (2-2, Rose Wallace 96th minute equaliser).

We’d had a poor start to the season and not scored in 5 or 6 games and came into this match having just been beaten 4-0 at West Brom (and it could have been about ten). We were already, really, looking like fodder. Whilst we did end up getting relegated, this was one of the games I look back on fondly that season.

The atmosphere in the away end considering we were losing for almost all the match bar brief respite when Kightly equalised for a short time, was superb. In the second half especially we didn’t shut up as a following for even a second and it almost felt destined that we would suck that ball into the net.

We are the longside relentless for about 25 minutes. Could sense it.

In my opinion the best ever away support was/ were the several hundreds and even the thousands that used to turn out to follow us all around the country in the lower leagues. How many times at away games were we greater in number than the home support? We’ve been rewarded. And long may it continue. Best ever away support.

We definitely didn't get all of the Kemlyn Road stand.

I went with 2 mates and we had a puncture on the way there. By the time we arrived our part of the stand was full, so we had no other option than to go in with the Scousers. Not much chance of any trouble we were jammed in like sardines, what an experience.

Just watched the highlights again THJ, certainly looks like we have got the whole Kemlyn Rd stand, ( the one opposite the TV cameras) although I accept it wasn't completely full.

An earlier poster mentions a 15,000 following at Man U in 1965. That must have been quite something. I was too young to have been there, at least on my own, so I'll have to give my vote to PNE away in 1973. I'd say more than 15,000. It was some day out.

Been on so many away days with the Clarets when just a few dozen, or many many thousands of travelling fans could create an atmosphere that was special or electrifying in its own right.
Something different from the wonderful ones mentioned already that has always stood out for me - particularly thinking about where we are now. Last day of the 79-80 season we were already relegated, and away at Watford (think Brian Laws made his debut). 4-0 down at half-time, which was how it stayed. But the few of us who went to witness the last rites of that season belted out a defiant anthem that went on and on of "We Shall Overcome Some Day". It lifted my spirits as we sang ourselves hoarse from what was then an open terrace corner of Vicarage Road, and although it took long painful years and near-extinction, we did "overcome some day" to experience Burnley back playing in the top flight and in Europe. The camaraderie and passion of Burnley fans at their best that day.

I actually watched the Burnley fans at Derby after the Derby Cup defeat from the main stand. And stayed in there until the players re-emerged from the tunnel.
There were a few Derby bods about fully appreciating our support. It was a very proud moment after a decade of strife. We were on our way back and that scene helped propel us on to achieving promotion.
Chelsea away the cup was the most intense unrelenting atmosphere I think I’ve been part of. 6100 for a midweek match. And you’d have to say the fans helped the team over the line that night. Epic.

Another that was a big away support was when we drew Forest away in the League Cup Sep 1990
We had not played Forest since the 70's and they were on the back of their halcyon days and had some exceptionally good players we got hammered but it was an injury to one of our players that looked to be very suspiciously malicious and could have finished his career off,the supporters singing the dam busters tune was a show of defiance
Them pens at the ground were a disaster waiting to happen as well.

There was link to that game posted on here a few weeks back and it made great watching. I was there too and the Burnley following was absolutely brilliant and came basically from nowhere. We weren't doing particularly well in our league, we were expected to lose heavily and it was a night match, but still thousands turned up (pay on the turnstiles in those days) and when we equalised in the second half there was utter bedlam for a while. Forest then asserted their superiority and got three more late in the game and basically killed the second leg, as well as finishing David Hamilton's career via a Stuart Pearce "tackle"!!

Fulham away in the FA Cup. I think it was Alan Moore who scored??.

Stockport away when I was a kid and some Burnley fans sat behind the goal getting ****** wet through whilst some of us sat undercover on the side. Chanting back and forth between ourselves
