Films
Since retiring a few years ago my Wife and I are regular visitors to the cinema, something we never had much time to do when we were both working, its something we both enjoy doing. Visits have become more frequent in the last few weeks mostly to distract my Wife from worrying too much about the impending annual mammogram, a time when her anxiety levels reach fever pitch having endured treatment for breast cancer 4 years ago. We watched "Rocketman" yesterday which was not great but good, we both enjoyed it, we have also seen this week "Long Shot" and "Hustle" two absolutely dreadful films, the latter of which we walked out half way through, American humour ( I use the term loosely) at its worst. What amazes me is that some of the small daytime audience were actually laughing!! Maybe I am just a miserable old git now.

Re: Films
Haven't seen Hustle so can't comment, but "American Hustle" with Jennifer Lawrence is brilliant! (IMO)

Re: Films
This may be your thing. You can watch classic films at the cinema with our screen. I've seen The Warriors, Die Hard, Rocky in the last few months. Tomorrow I'm watching the good the bad and the ugly!

Re: Films
Hustle is the only film I have ever seen the film review page in The Tomes give no stars (out of 5) to so I think you can regard your critical faculties as fully intact. Do you read reviews etc before you choose your films ? I ask because no-one who had read the advance reviews of Hustle would have gone to see it. Enjoy more films and hope your wife's medical situation stays good.

Re: Films
I have an IMDB threshold of 7. I very rarely waste my time with anything that scores less than that. It’s usually a decent gauge.
American Hustle actually scores above that but I agree it’s a poor film.

Re: Films
Yes Stalbansclaret I usually do look at the reviews but obviously not close enough for this film. I think I read somewhere that 78% of google users liked the film, they must have had the same number of brain cells as the members of the audience laughing when I went to see the film! I don't always agree with the critics but I accept that most of the time they are a good guide. Thank you for your good wishes.

Re: Films
Have a drive over to Leeds and visit Cottage Road and Hyde Park Picture Houses: two cinemas that are brilliantly maintained yet stuck in a time period of two or three decades ago. The wife and I go there whenever we can. It’s well worth it for that old time cinematic experience. Cottage Road is my favourite (Headingley). Both cinemas have websites.

Haven’t been to the cinema in over 10 years. I think TVs are that good now and so much content available that I’d prefer to sit in a nice living room. I can make popcorn for free if I want it and don’t have to listen to people rattling sweet papers, slurping and youths grunting in a language I don’t understand.
