Contract expiry
Following on from the extended deal signed by Popey, below is our squad list as it stands today and the year of expiry of their contract (normally end of June).
You'll notice there are 10 players who's contract expires end of next season. As welcome as a couple of new signings would be, equal importance ought to be placed on extending some of these.
For me, Heaton, Hendrick and Westwood would be essential.
1Tom Heaton 2020
2 Matt Lowton 2021
3 Charlie Taylor 2021
4 Jack Cork 2021
5 James Tarkowski 2022
6 Ben Mee 2021
7 Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson 2023
10 Ashley Barnes 2021
11 Chris Wood 2021
12 Robbie Brady 2020
13 Jeff Hendrick 2020
14 Ben Gibson 2022
15 Peter Crouch 2019
16 Steven Defour 2020
18 Ashley Westwood 2020
20 Joe Hart 2020
21 Nahki Wells 2020
25 Aaron Lennon 2020
26 Phil Bardsley 2020
27 Matej Vydra 2021
28 Kevin Long 2021
29 Nick Pope02023
30 Adam Legzdins 2020

Re: Contract expiry
With the exceptions of Bardsley, Lennon and Legzdins I would suggest we cant afford to let any of the others walk away for nothing. All very saleable assets so either we sell (in the next 6 months) or we give new deals to them.
Re: Contract expiry
Even if Legzdins is on relative peanuts it's still scary to think what he's earnt from us for doing naff all, apart from a bit of training down at Gawthorpe. He must be great in the dressing room

Brady Westwood and Hart are not OOC until 2021 as we have an option of another year from 2020

Re: Contract expiry
I think Westwood deserves a new contract after last season.
Spoke about how happy he is here at the presentation night, strike while the irons hot.

Joey to 2023? Wow.
Re: Contract expiry
Heaton needs to be the next to sign a long term agreement with it being his last year this season.

All available at (including the player missing on the list at the top) and it shows where there is a year's option too.

Re: Contract expiry
Kevin Long, he's Burnley's equivalent of Ken Barlow, been here since the start. When did he sign, was it 1882?

Re: Contract expiry
Due 10 year testimonial next year as he was OC's last signing or last negotiated signing who actually joined us. At the time OC said he would go straight into the squad but whilst true the reality has been somewhat different as Duff,Edgar Shacks, Tarks Mee Keane and likely Gibson have leap frogged Kevin into a CH slot

Easy to say that when he hasn't been needed, but if we'd had an injury crisis he would have been worth itjrgbfc wrote:Even if Legzdins is on relative peanuts it's still scary to think what he's earnt from us for doing naff all, apart from a bit of training down at Gawthorpe. Re: Contract expiry
But he clearly isn't trusted to play even in an emergency. Hence the complete panic signing of Joe Hart.deanothedino wrote:Easy to say that when he hasn't been needed, but if we'd had an injury crisis he would have been worth it

Re: Contract expiry
No, Hart was bought for an extended spell. Pope was just injured, Heaton was coming back from a long term injury and this is evident by the fact Hart started for half a season.jrgbfc wrote:But he clearly isn't trusted to play even in an emergency. Hence the complete panic signing of Joe Hart.

Imagine seeing a thread titled "Contract expiry" and the first thought when opening it for someone was how can I be a whinging idiot on this thread too.

Think you're confusing Hart with Lindegaard, the latter was the one brought in to be the bench boy as Legzdins wasn't even trusted to be on the bench.
But looking at Legzdins career stats, it's no real surprise really, he's a very poor GK and extremely lucky to be at a premier league club regardless of the role.

Re: Contract expiry
Overall age of the squad is an issue.
You'd hope that we can gradually bring down the average age while not losing our premier league status.

Re: Contract expiry
A lot of our players will be into their 30's whilst still under contract
Re: Contract expiry
Which surely begs the question why is he at the club?MACCA wrote:Think you're confusing Hart with Lindegaard, the latter was the one brought in to be the bench boy as Legzdins wasn't even trusted to be on the bench.

That's a long running question that probably only 1 man has the answer to.
He might be great around the dressing room, being groomed for a coaching role or might be the guy who we use to blast the ball at from 10 yards on the shooting drills ( we dont want to be injuring the assets )
There is no way he was brought here as genuine competition for the GK department ( no matter who tells me that I wont believe them , it's be a total lie )
